Glad you got out of the house to see your friend idiffer; a shame you got stopped though - glad it all worked out ok.

I did Ruth, but I really enjoy those sorts of fantasy movies; so I'm not super-critical when it comes to that genre - a great escape from the troubles of real life! :) It was a little silly and over the top but a lot of fun.

Ruth | 755 comments Yeah, I like them too. Can't wait to see this one and Justice League is coming out this month too. : )

I'm sure I'll be seeing that one as well! Just a couple moew weeks until it comes out!

dely | 5214 comments Karin, but those cow-catchers, do they go slowly and before the train arrives? Otherwise, if it's part of a train and it arrives fast, that poor cow will be hurt!

Greg, I like those huge windows! You are so right, working being able to look outside makes a huge difference.

I think I jinxed myself yesterday. As soon as I wrote that I would have read the whole day, I new project arrived on which I started working :/ Usually work doesn't arrive on Sundays, but maybe they need to have done it as soon as possible.

Great to have windows Greg; in my office we only have a roof window!!! Not much for a view!

message 159: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie LauraT, I feels for you. Windows without a view are scarcely windows.

Nowadays some offices do not let you open the window, which is horrible too.

You're right; better anyway to have a window, though!!!!

Thanks Laura and dely! It would be nice if they opened Chrissie, but I agree Laura and dely - just being able to see outside makes a huge diffefence.

I worked over 10 years in an area of a building where I couldn't see out of a window all day. I couldn't tell if it was dark or light, raining or sunny, anything until I left for the day .. so depressing!!! Some days I saw no sunlight at all. This new building is so much better!

That kind of light deprivation can't be healthy.
I work in an open space to although I am not close to a window qwe do have natural light filtering in. At this time of year it is also cold enough that we can turn off the A/C and some people like to open windows. I love a breath of fresh air (even if it isn't that fresh due to working at an oil refinery!)

message 163: by Joan (new)

Joan I, too, worked for years in a basement laboratory with no windows.
It was dismal,
but there is something magical about emerging at the end of the day
to a world covered with snow, when you didn’t even know it was snowing,
or walking out into a full-blown thunderstorm that you didn’t hear coming.
Of course 364 days out of the year it was just dismal.

Chrissie Went to the dentist today . When I fell and cut my cheek I also hit a tooth. Now a month and a half has gone by and it seems that at least for now the nerve is not damaged. Nice. So I am happy.

Now out to go rake in the yard. Soon all the leaves will have fallen. Phew.

Oh yeah, we saw the boars again this morning on our walk. They stayed far away.

Are you enjoying the new job? (and mananging without windows?)

message 171: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Pink, are you happy with your new job? I hope so. May I ask what you are doing? I always found new jobs extremely stressy - you do not know anybody and everything is so new Sorry to hear about the lack of windows.

Are you liking it?

message 174: by Pink (new)

Pink Yes I'm liking my job so far. It's a complete departure for me, working as a pharmacy assistant at the hospital. I've always worked with children, either in schools or social services, but it was time for a change.

message 175: by Joan (new)

Good luck in your new job, Pink

I am just finishing packing. Last Friday I booked a last minute long weekend to Nice with my boyfriend. We fly later today and get back Sunday!

message 178: by Chrissie (last edited Nov 09, 2017 12:48AM) (new)

Chrissie Heather, if you can, rent a car and travel a bit from the coast. Look for Fondation Maecht, Renoir's house and there is a Matisse museum too. And Chagall. Very pretty landscape in from the coast.

Have fun.

message 181: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Pink, good luck with your new job!

Heather, have a nice long weekend. Seems strange, I've never been to Nice despite visiting France three times. I sure have to go someday.

I've just received a difficult translation assignment for next week, so I'll have lots of work to do. It's not overly long (not short either, though), but it's about automotive, so it's not going to be easy, although I've often worked in this field.

message 182: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Marina, the assignment sounds challenging. Good luck and I hope no difficulties arise.

message 186: by Karin (last edited Nov 09, 2017 04:24PM) (new)

Karin I am FRUSTRATED with the INTERNET. I was helping my son by doing the grunt work on a Very Long scholarship application (he has to write all of the essays and paragraph questions, which are numerous). So, after entering all the school stuff including ALL of his classes with details like grades, if they are required or electives, honours, AP or whatever, and so on) for 3 1/2 years (7 semesters) plus helping him with the paragraph on factors that might have affected his grades (he has a form of dyslexia plus practices music hours a day), etc the page would NOT save. So, savvy person that I am, I cut and pasted the page to save some time later. BUT, in a movie of sweeping brilliance (voice dripping with irony combined with sarcasm) I didn't look at it and all I got was instructions with EMPTY boxes so I had to start the page all over again because sure enough, the info was gone when I reloaded the page.

Now I am saving as I go (should have done that sooner, but every other page was easy to save) but still have to re-enter all of those doggone classes and details. PLUS make sure he does all the writing for his end of it.

Why bother? If he somehow manages to be one of 85 winners, he will get up to $40,000 per year for college. You can see now why the application is so long and involved--to weed out the lazy and unmotivated. Plus income is a factor and they want 3 years of it (it is a legitimate outfit).

Wow! Fingers crossed he will win!

I understand that frustration. It is a terrible feeling but seen the price it is worth to start all over again.

message 188: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Karin, I'm so sorry, of course you're frustrated! Sometimes technology seems to be against us :( I hope you managed to write it all again. And fingers crossed for the scholarship!

message 191: by [deleted user] (new)

Karin, I sympathize with you. Best of luck to your son.

Pink, glad to hear your new job is going well.

It's early afternoon on a sunny but cold Friday. I spent the morning making vegetable soup and focaccia, so that will feed us for a couple days. Planning to spend the afternoon reading. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Diane S ☔ Karin, wishing the best of luck to your son.

Very cold here today. We are waiting for baby, my youngest daughter is due within ten days and we are all anxious to meet baby Rue.

message 193: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Really cold here today too, Diane - in the 20’s and we had a dusting of snow! Yuk !

Keep us posted on the new grandbaby . Love the name.

message 194: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Terri, every time you tell us what you cooked , I think - wish I had some of that ! Could have used soup here today , but we’re having pizza !

message 195: by Joan (new)

Joan Congratulations Diane!

message 196: by Joan (new)

Joan Terri- you are in for a cold spell - the hot soup sounds delicious. I made beef stew today for the same reason.

Congratulations!

Here it's nearly 8 am and I'm waiting for the mall to open so I go for some grocery shopping. Monday my sister will arrive and she will stay here for 10 days. She turns 50 and she wants to celebrate it here with me, without husband or children. Sometimes also a wife/mother needs some peace :D
I think we will sightseeing a lot because she already told me that she wants to see as much as possible of the wonderful places in Liguria. I hope we will manage to go from the Cinque Terre to Albenga visiting also several hamlets in the hinterland, but I suggested also a trip to Monte Carlo if there is enough time.

message 198: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Diane, keep us posted about little Rue - lovely name by the way!

Dely, I'm sure you'll have a great time with your sister. Have fun!

Ahhh, you all must stop talking about all the yummy things you cook - I'm jealous! I love cooking but I can't say I'm a good cook unfortunately. I used to be better in the past, but maybe I've just become too lazy...

message 199: by Angela M (new)

Angela M dely, enjoy the time with your sister !

Quiet weekend here which I’m happy about since last weekend was busy . It’s a grey morning and only 23 degrees ! Supposed to go to 35 with some sun. Today is laundry and reading . Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Has anyone heard from Gill ? She’s been on my mind .
