LOL - that was my first thought as well! Chrissie, please don't push yourself too hard & take care.

Being in the U.S., I have no help to offer but needed to say wow! I am impressed that this issue has just come up if your MIL is 98 years old. She must be in pretty good shape (even if cantankerous) to have remained independent so long.

Yes she is a spitfire - she has a three-wheel electric scooter to drive around her village and up until this winter she was charging around at top speed - about 5 mph :-)

message 454: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Joan, seriously, your MIL sounds phenomenal.

I WILL be more careful, Leslie, I promise.

message 455: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments It is ~1:30 in the afternoon here in New England and the snow is coming down quite heavily at the moment. I am glad that I had recovered enough from my indisposition to go grocery shopping yesterday! The forecast has varied from 3-18 inches of snow by tomorrow, followed by rain -- yuck.

message 456: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Leslie, I do hope the weather improves.

message 457: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Leslie, stay safe and warm ! Can’t believe you are getting hit again . We are expecting a few flurries but misty it’s a blah day here with no sun and about 37 degrees.

message 458: by Joan (new)

Joan Here on Long Island we have snow and thunder - so I’m posting this as 40 pounds of dog tries to climb into my lap.

As Leslie said - sleet, snow, rain —-yuk

message 459: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Yuk! Joan, stay safe and warm!

Ruth | 755 comments Driving to work without windshield wipers in the snow-rain. Good times. Luckly, I only work about 3 miles from my house. Wiper broke when I was cleaning off my car and I couldn't see to fix it in the dark. I will be glad when winter is over.

Sounds harrowing, I’m glad you made it home.

The snow looks beautiful here but I think it is heavy and hard on the trees.

message 462: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Joan, I go around shaking snow off trees, but that is in Sweden.

Ruth, be careful. That does sound dangerous!

message 463: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 755 comments My Co worker temporarily fixed it but I definitely need a new wiper. but I made it to work safe and sound. We didn't get much snow thankfully we got mostly rain and I didn't lose power either so it's all good.

message 464: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Ruth, glad you are safe. Change that wiper as soon as you can.

message 465: by Diane S ☔ (last edited Mar 08, 2018 04:39PM) (new)

Diane S ☔ Hope everyone on the east coast stays safe. My son who is a claim adjuster, has been sent to Rhode Island.

Spent the afternoon with three of my favorite girls, my youngest daughter, Annie, my baby granddaughter Rue and the pup Ona.

Also in Italy Spring doesn't want to come out; it is not snowing anymore as 15 days ago, but it's pouring with rain!

message 468: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Laura, it's sunny and warm both in Pescara and in Macerata, where I'm currently staying at my parents'. I hope the sun will soon come out in Perugia as well...

message 469: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments Sunny also here in North Italy, it seem nearly spring. Laura, you live in the wrong place :P

Yikes, hope everyone living in East America is safe. Today was the first day it felt like Spring, went for a meeting in my big winter coat thinking it was going to be freezing but it was nice and warm. I had to take my coat off.

Yes, both cities definitely aren't known outside of Italy I'm afraid. I even met some Italian people who didn't know where Macerata is! I think they are both quite nice :) I've been living in Pescara for two years and a half now and I love it!

There are cities like that everywhere, I think, and sometimes in their own countries. I have spent years here in the eastern USA saying I'm from near Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) only to finally realize that people out here have almost never heard of they city of Vancouver, Washington, USA and they live in the same country. On the Canadian and American west coast (ie more than just California, for crying out loud ;) ) we all know about both so are often specific if we are outside of our local areas there.

message 474: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Talk about not knowing cities--it can be even worse. When we moved to Sweden people confused it with Switzerland............

Ruth | 755 comments We are going to be hit with our third nor'easter. Estimates are 12 to 18 inches of snow. When is spring coming?

message 478: by dely (last edited Mar 12, 2018 02:24AM) (new)

dely | 5214 comments Sometimes I find these mismatches funny.
There are still people who think that Canada is part of the US. And when my son lived in Malaysia a lot of people there thought that Europe is a kind of US, and English the spoken language by everyone.
Oh well, and my mother always confused Malaysia with something else. Lol, I think she still doesn't know where her grandchild has lived for one year :D

What me concerns, I have to say that I live in this region since 14 years but I don't know all the places. So when people talk me about a place, I still have to ask where it is :/

In fact the common misconception that Israel is just desert and camels led to a website about Israeli technology being called 'No Camels'.

Joan One day while shopping here in New York with my Mother-in-law as shop clerk asked her where she was from. She replied “Jersey”. The shop clerk was astonished that people from New Jersey have English accents! From then on she just told people she was from England.

I usually say I'm from London rather than specify although now I'm near Oxford I could say that!

I really like hearing where people are from and have a good knowledge of Geography so I'm usually interested in the nearest city. If I haven't heard of it I'll google it as it's brilliant knowledge for pub quizzes!

message 488: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 1368 comments When people ask where I lived in England I say near Oxford because most people have heard of the university.
Otherwise people assume that everyone English comes from London and as much as I love London that just irritates me.

When I have to say where I live in Italy, especially if I'm abroad, I usually say "Perugia, in between Rome and Florence", since very few foreign people know my city. Every now and then it happens that they ask me "Is Perugia close to Assisi?" - to which I answer, with a little parochial pride, "Assisi is close to Perugia!!!!"

message 490: by Angela M (new)

Angela M wrote: "Laura, I know about Perugia because of the chocolates !"

Perugina Factory!!! Created by an exceptional woman - almost illiterate - at the end of the XIX Century, Luisa Spagnoli. Still bearing her name the dark chocolate bars, that to make cacke with WERE really great.
I'm saying were because since the late 80s the Perugina has been bought by Nestlè, and the quality of their products has terribly dropped.
Still the "Baci", their most famous chololate candy, are quite good, and a nice present to bring along!!!

message 492: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Laura, it’s the Baci candy that I am familiar with and have enjoyed!

message 493: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Laura, my parents visited the Perugina factory a short while ago, and brought home tons of chocolate for me! As you say though, the quality is not the same as before. The Baci are still wonderfully tasty, though :)

The snow is coming down now, midmorning Tuesday. We had ~17 inches in the last storm and expect this one to be the same, though hopefully fluffier so it will be lighter for shovelling!

It feels like February and March reversed their weather :/

message 495: by Joan (new)

Joan Interesting about the woman who started Perugina chocolate; I didn’t know they were Nestle.
We visited the walled city of Perouges, France - the guide said it was probably settled by migrants from Perugia 800 years ago. He was a nice kid but I’m not sure he had his facts straight.

message 496: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Leslie , I can’t believe you are going to get hit again with a storm. In upstate NY, it’s snowing a little but we are expected to get 5 - 9 inches overnight and more in areas south of here . Stay safe and warm !

message 497: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments I'm sorry to hear that there it's still snowing. Luckily today we had a very warm day. Can't wait to go to read again on my terrace though this year I have to renew the parapet. But I think I will do it in April or May.

Btw, I don't know how many Windows phone users we have here. Well, I'm one of those and in these last months the apps, one after the other, stopped working or had always problems. I went to the shop to ask them what could be done, and they told me that Microsoft decided to give up on mobile phones, so they won't do any updates anymore. They will do only updates for security but not for functionality :/
A few days ago I have seen a good discount for a Huawei and I've read good reviews about it (it's the 9P Lite). I bought it but it's still in its box :-( I will have a hard time to get used to Android, I have never liked it.

Other Windows phone users in my same situation?

message 498: by Leslie (new)

message 499: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ My son is in Rhode Island and he says all the businesses are closed. Three in a row, unbelievable. We had a few snow showers here today, nothing stocked but was surprising since it was totally unexpected.

I don't want nor own a cell phone, so I am no help at all.

message 500: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 755 comments I don't know how much snow we got but it was bad coming home from work this morning.
Diane, the Governor had asked people to stay home and for businesses to give their employees the day off and I guess it worked because there was not much traffic on the roads. I woke up tonight and my road is down to pavement. Bristol usually does a good job of plowing..They even have this little plow that plows the sidewalks. : )
