Well, you have been in several places!
I hope you'll manage to go to the Netherlands. Maybe you can find some low cost flight (for my last vacation in France, for ex, I paid only 45 euros for the round trip ticket) and I hope that your friends can host you so it is even cheaper. Or you can check also some homestay to save some money. I don't think I would do it, but my son did it and he has been lucky because he found two lovely families that went also with him sightseeing explaining everything.

Chrissie Nancy, I am confused. Are you still traveling in Croatia or have you returned hom? My husband and I traveled their but by car. The color of the ocean, the ferries we took and Dubrovnik remain as special memories. We went to one village where they paint on glass, a very special technique. I no longer remember the name of the village though. Have you gotten to Zagreb? It is inland so probably not.

Marina (sonnenbarke) I've been working every day for a couple of weeks now, so yesterday I had a nervous breakdown. I went to the supermarket and felt like crying in front of everyone. Luckily I made it home. My boyfriend was with me, and got quite worried about the whole thing. So I'm not much on GR lately, although I do pop in from time to time when I give myself a short break from work. Luckily I've taken a couple of days off next week (Thursday and Friday), as my boyfriend and I are going to visit my family. I'm glad about that because it will be the first time for him to meet my cousins, whom I love as we grew up together (they're just a couple of years younger than I am). He will also get to meet my sister and her family for the first time. He already knows my parents. I'm sure we'll have a good time :)

Chrissie (((((Marina)))))) there are some warm hugs to cheer you up. Please, when all looks black remember you have friends here who care about you.

I am happy you have anew boyfriend and I hope it goes well. Otherwise your view of men may go completely down the drain......

Have fun with your cousins and try to just lean back and relax.

Do you have nice weather? That does help a lot, and a good book of course helps too. We are here in Sweden are being treated to summer days--birds are chirping, the sky is blue, the buds have come out and even some of the leaves. I think you can sense that the nice weather has rubbed off on my mood.

message 656: by Pink (new)

Pink Marina, sorry to hear you've been having a tough time. I'm glad you're taking a couple of days off work and have some nice plans. Having something to look forward to can help you focus on something other than work. We're all here for support whenever you need us :)

message 657: by Jenny (last edited May 06, 2018 01:08AM) (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Marina, sorry to hear about that, take care of yourself! I do know this feeling when you feel like you lose the handle on your emotions in the weirdest situations, simply because your system is completely overloaded and tired.
It's a good thing you are having a few days off soon, it sounds like a really nice family get together, and a good opportunity to just snuggle in under the comfy blanket of being with loved ones.
Do you have the chance to make the load a bit lighter for the next few days until then?

message 658: by Lalitha (new)

Lalitha (falcon_) | 30 comments I guess I am a newbie to these discussions here :) nice to see that people are enjoying the weather right now, but not me. It's blazing hot in India right now. However, the good part is, it's also the mango season here and the best and juiciest of loads of varieties of mangoes are just popping up everywhere :)

message 659: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Chrissie, the boyfriend is still the same :D We've been together nearly 5 years now and I have no intention of letting him go :)

Thank you all for your nice words. It means a lot ♥

Jenny, unfortunately there's no chance of making the load a bit lighter in the next few days, since I have a deadline for a project due next Thursday. But then again, off for some days! I think I won't even bring my computer with me.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm sure that two days off will help you. Deadlines add anxiety to a job! And being a freelancer one of the main problems is that sometimes there is really a lot of work and in other moments there is less or nothing. We have to live with it though not having a balance in the workload isn't always easy to bear.
Let us know about your visit to your family, if it went well and if helped you to "rub out" some anxiety.
No, don't bring your computer with you!

Phew, I mistakenly thought you had trouble with the second guy too. Sorry for the confusion.

message 665: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I just came in from sawing down some Juniper bushes. I am all worn out. Oscar always has to copy me so he wanted to help chew it down. He is always doing what I am doing. BTW I had to saw them down b/c the change in climate has made big clumps of moss grow on them. They looked like big ghosts.

Marina - For the first week we were in the Palitinate area for work. This week we are in Garmisch-Partinkirchen for extended vacation. I have a FABULOUS view of the mountains from our balcony! Lots of snow still on them. We went to the Zugspitze today! So gorgeous and great weather. Germany is so green and beautiful! We are really enjoying our trip.

We have another trip planned in June but not so exciting of a place - Des Moines, Iowa and Minneapolis, MN. But, we are looking forward to it since our daughter is getting married out there.

Congratulations on your daughter's marriage.

Glad you are enjoying your sojourn in Germany. Sounds great, and thanks for giving us the details,

message 670: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) Thank you Chrissie! She will have 4 step-children (2 adults & 2 teens) in addition to her own son. Quite a change for her!

My knowledge of German geography and spelling is not very good. I think I should’ve said Rhineland-Palatinate. I’m learning a lot while here! Reminds me of how little I know about other countries.

message 671: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Pam, traveling leads on to rad more books about the cultures of different countries. One of my favorite trips in Germany was when we drove along the Mosel River of the wine region. Have you traveled there too?

message 672: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Pam, I'm so glad you're enjoying your trip. Thanks for telling us a bit more about it. And conratulations on your daughter's marriage! I bet you must be so happy for her!

Chrissie, the Mosel River is just wonderful. I love those landscapes.

message 673: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn | 1410 comments I haven't travelled much in Germany, but I also drove along the Mosel River for wine tasting. We stayed overnight in Cochem, what a quaint town and a lovely castle to tour.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I am readying myself to go the hospital for a small surgical procedure. The small virus infection i've been having decided to leave behind a creative bonus present before leaving my body and gifted me with an infected cyst where no woman would want one. I am not allowed to eat nor drink as it will happen under general anaesthetia which feels a bit like torture. I am a breakfeast eater. If everything goes well I am allowed to go home later in the afternoon, at which point I will probably attack my fridge.

All the best! Have bucket loads of gelato after that :)

message 679: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Oh, sorry Jenny! Fingers crossed for you, I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Tell us how you feel later on. I'm surprised they let you go home in the afternoon after general anesthesia, I thought the rule was to let the person sleep in the hospital for a night after that, but I'm not up to date with that, so I might be wrong. After all, at least here in Italy, the hospitals now try and let people out as soon as possible, because they lack beds and money - so it might be the rule here, too.

message 683: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Hey guys, thank you for your support. I am back home now and I am still a bit high from the general anesthetic, but my boyfriend is 'wuseling' (sorry, German world made to sound English) around me and taking care that I have lots of water and finally!!! food.
It's quite painful and walking feels like a horrible idea, but I guess this means more couch time for me and therefore lots of time for reading.

PS: he's just left to get me some ice cream :)

message 684: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Jenny, glad you’re home and hope the soreness goes away soon . Enjoy the pampering!

JENNY, tons of hugs. Glad that is over with. Let your boyfriend baby you to pieces and eat ice cream , maybe even splurge on Ben and Jerry's ice cream????? Isn't that the very, very best? I am so glad you are home Take care now.

message 688: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) We finished our wonderful Bavarian vacation today by going to Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle! We traveled via a short stretch in Austria to get there from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and stopped at a golf course with beautiful views to take a few mountain pics. So, now I can say I have been to Austria, also!

message 699: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Jenny, yum! I saw I misspelled the brand name, but I fixed it. Silly me, but you knew what meant.

message 700: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) Dely - Yes, we will have to return to Europe! We ate at an Italian restaurant in Dachau and the owner also told us we must go to Italia- Roma, Roma, Roma, he says!

We spent our last day visiting the Dachau Memorial. It was very sobering and emotionally overwhelming, knowing you are standing at the place where such atrocities were committed. In the museum, I enjoyed the Dutch section, which highlighted several inspirational Dutch prisoners. It’s an important monument and I’m glad I went. It’s an experience I will never forget. One of the prisoners wrote a book, from his journals, titled “Goethe in Dachau”, which I’m going to try find.

Tomorrow we have a 12 hour flight to San Francisco, before connecting to Albuquerque. Long day of flying but I plan to catch up on my reading! Thank you all for your comments!
