What are you doing right now? Part 2
dely, I've never had a Windows phone, but I've been a happy owner of a Huawei P9 Lite for a year and a half now, and it's still working very well. Now the battery holds a little less, i.e. three full days instead of four! This is amazing for me, I use the phone for work and I really need this kind of battery power. I had an LG before and it was terrible, I had to have it fixed three times and in the end it just died on me when I was on a trip... awful experience, wouldn't recommend it. I think you bought a very good phone, you'll get used to it!
Thanks everyone. I tried the most important things right now and though it isn't difficult, I don't like it. My Windows phone had much more personalizations that I used and liked like the time and notifications also in stand-by, I could choose a notification ringtone for sms (mainly only coupons from supermarkets), whatsapp (friends and relatives), skype (work), email, so I knew from where it was coming and how important it was. It will be hard to do without them :-(And I had a camera of 20 mp that made amazing pics. Now I have only 13 :-(
All the pics I did went also automatically to my Outlook cloud so afer a few minutes I had them also on my pc where I could save them in my folders. I have to figure out how to do it with Google and where its cloud is.
Tomorrow I will also meet with my ex husband because he is an Android lover so he will help me with a couple of things I didn't figure out how to do (add one of my pics as background and to take away a useless thing with music on the homepage).
Ah, on my homepage I had also a small folder with all my favorite pics that changed randomly. I will miss that a lot :-(

With my discount I had only a few smartphones to choose from, and that one had the best ratings and reviews. I also didn't want to spend too much money because I'm still here hoping that Microsoft will change its mind and implement some updates.

But then I do like Android. I loved my Nexus from work but then they changed phones and gave me a Samsung: piece of cr@p with no battery life. That was changed for another Samsung : piece of cr@p with no storage capacity!
Eventually I got so fed up I bought the P10 lite myself and use it for work. It is easy to use, good battery life, lots of storage and when I visited Roma last October people were stunned by the quality of the photos.

I didn't know that, but it could easily be!
10 years ago, when in Monte Rey, I bumpted in a snack bar called Caffè Umbria, that had as logo one of our two landmarks: the Etruscan Arch - did you know that the people who invented the Arch were not the Romans, but the Etruscans? The Roman conquered them and copied all, as they usualy did!!!! I'm sure it was opened by someone fro Perugia!

For photos you need Google Photos. I use it as a back-up to my back-up, my primary cloud-storage is Dropbox.

There is something about a path disappearing under an arch isn’t there, just makes me wonder what is around the corner! And now I think I need to find a good book about the history of European architecture.
All these posts about Italy make me long to visit!
Marianne, how do you post your photos on GR now that Photobucket is no third party posting (without cost).

Good to know! I tried today more than once, but I couldn't find how to do it. I hope my ex husband will help me.
My son in Rhode Island said they have gotten 18 inches of snow. Everything is closed as they try to dig out. Prod of our kids n the USA today, as middle school and high schools walked out, all the the country, protesting against gun violence and demanding tougher gun laws.

Haven't gotten a lot of coverage of that across the pond, anything I've seen about it so far is from Ellen or the internet. I don't think I will ever understand the second amendment especially in this day and age, but I can't get over how there seems to be such a backlash from older people against these teenagers.

Sigh, my mother was taken to the hospital yesterday. She's having congestive heart problems related to her fluid levels which make it hard for her to breath. Hopefully they will be able to adjust her meds and she will be able to go home in a few days...Anyway, I am off to the hospital after I finish my coffee and might not be around much for a while.

Leslie, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope for a speedy recovery for your mother. Don't worry about not being around, just drop us a line whenever you have the time and strength. Take care of yourself.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts! Mom seems to be doing well and hopefully this will be a short stay -- at 91 though, even minor health matters are worrisome! Thank goodness that it didn't happen the previous day while we were having a blizzard. And on a related note, I have a suspicion that she is developing a relationship with another resident in the retirement community she lives in. I think that she is afraid or embarrassed to admit this to me, maybe worried that I or my brother will be upset that she is 'replacing' my dad. Any ideas about how to broach the subject or if I should just keep mum?

So sweet! I give for granted that you agree with this relationship.
I don't have advices. If it would happen to me, I think I would talk to my mother saying that it would be great if she could have some really good friends or maybe also something more than a friend because love can be experienced at every age, in different ways. But I don't know. I also think that my mother, with her character, would be really embarrassed to talk about such topics.
You could just make a comment about how so and so seems nice (or any other more descriptive adjective of your choice!).
Leave it without broaching the subject entirely but make the point that you are aware of the friendship/relationship/companionship and leave it there for now. I think it hints at your understanding without embarrassing your mother and leaves it in her hands to discuss with you

Leslie, glad to hear your mother is doing better. I so agree that at that at that age , any issue is a scare. Hoping she’ll be released from the hospital soon.I have no advice on the relationship side of things!

ETA: I see in an update that she's feeling better. I hope that continues.
It's sweet that she's found a special interest in her home.
Leslie, my mum wold be your mum's age is she was still alive and knowing her and the era in which she lived, I would just stay 'mum', if you'll pardon the pun. Mum would deem any such discussion out of bounds, even though she was quite forthcoming about her relationship with my dad. But you know your mother better than most, so what is your gut feeling about the situation?

Thanks all for both the good wishes and the advice.
I think parents always worry about sharing these things with their children even when they are grown up. Throughout film and literature there is always this expectation that children of whatever age don’t want their parents to be happy after divorce of the death of a partner.
I remember when I told people my dad was remarrying, the first question was often ‘do you like your dads partner?’ My answer was always yes! I just want my dad to be happy and he is. Mind you...when I was a teenager I was horrible to my dads girlfriend at times but I think that was just the angst of being a 14 year old girl!

Chrissie wrote: "Leslie, how is your Mom coming along?"Mixed news. Sometime during Friday night, Mom suffered several small strokes (2 in her brainstem and one slightly larger in the cerebellum). Luckily the damage seems minimal, with the worst being that she now has double vision. So that was very scary for us as you can imagine!
But her cardiac fluids seem to be responding well to the medication and they have started her on physical therapy so that part is going well.
Leslie, so sorry your mom has had a set back with the strokes . The fluid news is good . Hope everything improves. Hope you’re doing okay .

I am doing okay but will be relieved when she is discharged from the hospital!

Leslie, terribly frightening for both your Mom and your family!!!!! Why cab't life be simple ad nice? I sympathize and feel sorry for the tough time you are having. Old age is SO difficult.
So sorry, Leslie. Though as you say, it was lucky that the strokes happened in the hospital. So you see sometimes being in hospital is vital, although I certainly understand when you say you will be relieved when she is discharged. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for your mom.
Leslie, still praying for your mom. Such difficult times. Old age is not for sissies, that's for sure.
Sorry to hear that Leslie, I hope recovered well from her strokes. The physiotherapists and occupational therapists are really good at dealing with the after effects of strokes and helping people manage symptoms like double vision if they don't resolve

Dely, my sympathies- I was a android user, then the powers-that-be at work insisted on iPhones - The transition was hard but I got used to it. Now, I’m happily back to android.
Good luck and remember chocolate or wine makes everything easier.
