Steph (angel4492) | 32753 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Angie ☯ | 624 comments Hey all!

Are we ready for some bingo?? (It's the start of football season - sorry!! I'm a football nut as well as a challenge nut!!)

I'm excited to play with you all - don't think that I've been on a team with any of you in the past.

I live in East Tennessee - single - no kids - work as an accountant - and am pretty boring and nerdy! ☺

Any one interested in being captain? If no one wants to be, then I can - I haven't been a captain at SOS, but I have in other groups.

How about team name? Any ideas?
Suggestions....(view spoiler)

Rosina | 1714 comments Hi Angie & Nina

I don't think I have had the pleasure of being on a team with you. I know Preethi from other challenges.

Loving me some SOS Bingo...I am a Baseball & Basketball fan...I'm from Canada and Football was just never something I could understand....

I am married and am an accountant as well...

For team names I like

Spine Crackers
Read it Like You Mean it
Dewey Decimators

Hi Rosina! *waves madly* Hi Nina and Angie!

I think this is my 6th or 7th SOS Bingo. Always love this!

I tend to get online-shy (which might sound strange, I know!) frequently, which means I might not really say much sometimes. I'm really weird like that.

Really no to being captain. My little neice was just two days ago. My brother and sister-in-law are so excited over their little angel! However, the house is a little full of people right now!

On a book-related topic, I read both M/M and M/F, but almost always PNR or UF.

Glad you've come up with team names Angie. I'm no good with that! I love Spine Crackers among your suggestions. Sounds kind of kick-ass and bookish at the same time!

Nina Snow | 67 comments Hey everyone!

This is my first time playing SOS Bingo, I've been meaning to play for a long time but I always missed the sign-up deadline *sigh*

I'm a full-time student and work part-time at a bakery but I'm still on break until the 28th of this month so my reading will probably slow down a bit.

I also read both M/M andM/F, the genre tends to change between PNR/UF and Contemporary and Mystery.

As for team names I like both Spine Crackers and Read It Like You Mean It.

Angie ☯ | 624 comments So glad everyone is excited to play!! Let's have some Bingo fun!!

Preethi - congrats on the new niece!!

Nina, this is my first time playing SOS Bingo too - I also have missed the sign-ups until now!

We won't get our first shelf call until Wednesday.
That is a great idea, to narrow down free space choices, Rosina!

So, if everyone wants to start thinking about what they would like to read for Free space - post #2 has the rules/ways to choose this book and we don't have to use the same option, it's up to each person.

The series had me from the first line of the first book. "My name is Gin, and I kill people." Gin is the kickass gal that has a really deep caring side. Some of the books have been a little lacking in some ways for me - small ways obviously because I am still reading!

This book has been one of my favorites. There was action of course but we get a little peek into Gin's time with Fletcher and the backstory for Owen and Eva and also Philip Kincaid, giving him a larger part in the story as well. I didn't like the outcome for Gin...she does what she knows needs to be done regardless of the backlash that may hit her. (view spoiler) On to #8 to see what happens! ☺

Review:
Oh Wow….. I still don’t know how to feel about this book. Parts of the books I really enjoyed but the rest not so much. This is going to be a fast review since I still have a lot of mixed feelings about it. The plot was intriguing, it definitely kept my attention but the world building reminded me of both Fever series and Guild Hunter Series.

I love sexy dominant alpha males but Ryder was just over-the-top, he was really controlling and abusive. Syn was supposed to be a powerful, kick-ass witch, and she certainly started that way, but then was reduced to a puddle in the presence of Ryder. Every. Single. Time. And she did really stupid things throughout the book especially where Ryder was concerned (view spoiler). But one thing I admire was the fact that she was completely loyal to her friends, even though said friends loyalty was questionable at times. Let me just give you a small summary of the first part of the book. (Or really most of the book)

Ryder: “I fucking own you, I can make you do whatever the fuck I want.”
Syn: “You don't own me. I hate you so much yet I want you to fuck me silly.”

……

I was about to DNF the book, but about 60% into the book it started to pick up somewhat and the fact that it ended in a major cliffhanger? It drew me in, to say the least. There is definitely potential in this series and I hope it gets better. Another thing is the writing, there was a bunch of editing errors and a lot of repetition, it drove me crazy.

Don't you love it when you randomly choose a book for a challenge - I picked this one solely on the cover! - and it turns out to be a really great read? I didn't even read the entire book blurb, I only read to the first 2 sentences. (This novel is intended for adults only. It includes lots of cursing, descriptive sex, biting sarcasm, and dark themes.); the cover and the "biting sarcasm" got me!

I was sucked into the story from the first page; it was a roller coaster ride, but a good one! I loved Mitch's character; he was strong and sarcastic and tried to be non-caring...didn't work. Eden's character was a little less likable for me, (view spoiler)

The only bad thing I have to say is.....CLIFF HANGER....and a pretty big one!! Now I have a date with Jekyl!

How it Fits: Shelved 2x Kindle Freebie

Review:
I had heard good things about this series so am glad I finally got to it. And picking it up a couple weeks ago as a freebie didn't hurt :)

I didn't think there was much in the way of world-building since it was simply about a small town in the middle of the desert formed by families of shifters but I did love the addition of Native American folklore. It was a little reminiscent of the Howl at the Moon series by Eli Easton because of the small town feel but without the humor. Except for the little tornado Aaron - LOVED him!!

The small town feel and the relationships between the characters is what gave this story its charm and heart. Everything was centered around the romance of the two main characters, Caleb and Jenna, but it was slow-building and a little give and take, even the mystery that brings everyone together.

There are times when I need a faster paced story but I think the slower pace gave me time to actually care about the characters. And the slower pace didn't make the story drag - there was always something going on that kept my interest and made me continue on.

I really enjoyed this first story and am looking forward to reading more, not only in this series but also others by this author.

How it Fits:Option 2 - SOS Best of Urban Fantasy Series List #9

Review:
I've wanted to read this series for quite some time but made the mistake of reading Estep's Mythos Academy series first. Big. Mistake. It started okay but things got super repetitive and super annoying so I was really put-off by this author's writing.

So glad I finally gave in because that first line hooked me in & I loved it! Granted, Estep still used the annoying sound effects (Slap-Slap-Slap, Clang-Clang-Clang) a couple times, and there were a few details that she felt the need to repeat over and over again (her knives), but luckily it wasn't nearly as bad as Mythos. And there was the obvious difference of being adult vs YA.

Okay enough of the comparisons.

I LOVED Gin! She definitely ranks up there with some of my favorite kick-ass heroines in urban fantasy. Loved most of the other characters too, especially Finn (how can you not love him?), but wish that we got more of Fletcher, even if only in flashbacks. The love interest, Donovan Caine, didn't really do it for me though. I have a habit of not liking the love interests at first *cough* Curran *cough* Reyes... I would've loved the dynamics (assassin/cop) but after reading the summaries for some of the next books, (view spoiler)

I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment because I will DEFINITELY be continuing on! Have heard that the series gets better and better and I'm looking forward to experiencing that for myself :)
