466 pages!! 😮😮
I didn't know about it. I have Gone Girl paperback and it has almost same pages, but roughly double in size!! I just assumed that it would be around 250-300 :(
You're right in that case (you're always right -_-)
We'll take it easy and slow :)

Right, it can go either way. Okay, how about this : let's read at least one autobio this year, apart from Gandhi dear's, either KS Uncle's or RKN's??

Am more interested in Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies! Jaya praised it. Sapiens' author mentioned this in acknowledgement, and it was mentioned in "Sources" many times.
The trouble is, it's on the same line as Sapiens.
Not sure about Gene! When are you going to read it? Not "just after" Sapiens?
Ping me whenever you do, I might join :)

The Portrait of a Lady! Not sure if it's a complete collection though!
And KS uncle wrote a lot of stuff, apart from those novels and short stories! Mostly non-fics! If you wanna read "all" of his stuff, then please find those old edition of Illustrated Weakly of India too na ;)
PS: Why you wanna read Burial at Sea! It's bad. Just sell it na ?

Um...it does sound fine, except I can't do that.
I'll be reading Dragon Tattoo Gurl with SKPrayog, and after that will be reading AFB "only". When all of this is done and my CR is empty, will pick Utmost Happiness!! 😍
We can read anything after that. You just propose and I'll be game for it, but before Utmost I don't think I can manage that much :(

We can follow this order - Prayog->RKN->KS
when do we start Prayog? 1st July? or after your happiness venture?

Had plans to read it "just after" Sapiens, but will prefer to wait till Smi finishes Sapiens. Gene would be fun to read with a Doctor ;)

Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies - I'm not ready for it now. Based on reviews I trust:
J: "Not an easy read by any measure."
A: "This is one of the toughest books I have read, not in terms of vocabulary or sentence construction but dryness."
And after saying that, they both recommend it :D :D

It is the complete collection of his short stories. And no, I don't intend to read (or even know about) all the editorials and columns he's written. Not interested.

While you're at Utmost and Tattoo, let me pick a few Hindi titles which are long overdue. Haven't been able to maintain that one Hindi book in CR always due to tomes, and pursuing reading recos and themes.
Will be done with Sapiens, and AFB within this week. So expecting some leeway :D

The Khushwants I'll pick:
1. Autobio
2. Portrait of a Lady
3. Burial at Sea
4. Khushwantnama
5. Malicious gossip (will give a try)
Nothing else captures my fancy for now.

Smi ain't picking Sapiens anytime soon ;)
But she might join you for Gene. In that case, I shall wait for your reactions. And, tbh, non-fics are no fun to discuss, unless they are IAGandhi. Or should I say science is no fun to discuss? : P

Other biographies read this year:
1. Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
2. Burma Chronicles (Memoir)
3. Dozakhnama (Work of fiction, built on accurate biographies of Manto and Ghalib)
4. Mamma Ki Diary
Only Persepolis and Elon Musk were the prominent ones in category "biography" .... Yet to read Vol 2 of Persepolis.

Danke for Hindi! I will I will :)
Why are you hell bent on spoiling your summer vacations :P
If you get the KS article collection, and do happen to read and like them, I'll wait for your reco then :)
That book Siddarha by Herman Hesse is calling me... Soon. Very soon.

And good luck with Siddhartha! May you find the inner peace and truth that you're seeking outside ;) xD

I started SKP last night. Read "प्रस्तावना" (Introduction) by M. K. Gandhi.
Didn't find it that tough. There were one or two words on each page that I didn't know the meaning of (शक्य??), But apart from that it went smooth.
Mohan writes like a monk or something xD
There are total १६७ chapters. We can aim for a month and go for ४–६ chapters per day! What say?
PS: Hindi numbers xD

Read for 1.5 hours and could reach only page 10. The प्रस्तावना was apt :) Liked it.
Had some difficulty in understanding some words.... and had to re-read some parts to grasp its meaning.
Finally continued reading without trying to find the meaning of every word!
And hence was in double minds yesterday whether to switch to English... But my buddy here is inspiring to carry on with Hindi!
Yeah LOADS of chapters. Which is good! I like smaller chapters instead of bigger chunks. Also easier for BR :)

Hey! I'm in chapter 6!
It's easy. I think you got scared after reading the Imtroduction, cause the main content is really easy. I stopped at 6, because I want to know where you are, and with what pace should we go?

Mohan emphasising on the importance of good handwriting!! 🙈🙊
Also, the chapter about language study! I'm surprised that he didn't mention any Dravidian language, but advised for the study of Farsi and Arbi!!

What do you think of the chapters where he discussed the earlier days of his marriage with Miss Kasturbai?
I'm somewhere in Chapter 5. His just married days. He lays emphasis on how he always wanted Kasturba to be educated... which could be a good thing in those times... but if he is emphasising anything at all, shouldn't he also consider what Kasturba wants for him and wants from him?
Guess it is just a mental block that its tough Hindi. I'll get over it :)

Read that part. It's justified. In those times and circumstances, there wasn't any need (or even cognizance) of Dravidian languages. What could be the benefit? Hardly anyone would have used it there...

Yeah, I agree that he's totally honest. I'm glad to know that he was just an ordinary kid in his teens, because, you know, lots of bios/autobios of famous people present the subject as he was genius from the day he was born, and that put me off 🤧
मुझे उम्मीद नहीं थी कि ये पुस्तक मुझे पसंद आएगी, but I'm really liking it.

In that case, Coco and Roti would be a really weird combo :\
Not only he wasn't a good husband in the beginning, but he wasn't later too... Alrighty he is the father of the nation and all, but he wasn't a good father, son etc...
Kasturba would have been bolder than the stereotype "pati parmeshawar" wife. Would be interesting to read her autobio. I'm expecting some good thrashing as Bapu renounced all his responsibilties and poor lady had to raise family on her own.

शौक से थोडा बहुत हिंदी लिख सकते हैं लेकिन जब कुछ discussion करना हो तब ख्याल सारे अंग्रेजी में ही आते हैं और उनको हिंदी में अनूदित करना पड़ता है! :D :D
At least now no problems in reading Hindi. Hope that barrier of speaking and writing effortless in Hindi would subside gradually.
