curious to know your take on AFB.
quiet- heard a lot about it.... think we discussed it some time back. but that's usual. we keep discussing over the same books and then 'did we discuss this before?' :D

so Menaka took KS to court for defaming her by publishing that private episode?? interesting!
by the way, i finished reading it. and pretty much enjoyed it overall. the beginning was way too deceptive.

LK Advani - for some reason i bought the hardcover... and it's the heaviest book i own... which means least preference to read among others in physical shelf.
let's see... might keep you company there.

I'd like to read the below:
1. His short story collection - Portrait of a lady
2. Khushwantnama
And would skip History of Sikhs among the notable works...
Even Khushwantnama might be a DNF or just parsing through... depends on its content.

Hai na? It was a lovely book. I guess it did justice to his life, his career, his personality. Really presents him well, this book, really does.

We can BR this one too. Not sure about Khushwantnama. It seems a compilation to me, not an actual book. You bought it kya?

Just a random thing I stumbled upon GR:

Manmohan Singh trivia by Khushwant Singh...It was 1999 or thereabouts when Manmohan Singh was the South Delhi candidate for Look Sabha elections. Manmohan Singh visited Khushwant Singh asking for a loan of 2 lacs for election expenses. Khushwant Singh was happy to oblige him and handed him 2 lacs cash right away. Manmohan Singh thanked him and left assuring him that he would return the money to him. After the elections, Manmohan Singh promptly returned him the money, the same bank notes, saying he managed without incurring the expense he had planned.

Hola amigos!
I finished the first chapter of the book. It's amazing so far...
I finished the first chapter of the book. It's amazing so far...
It's funny, but it's not making me laugh....but it's still funny. Do you get me? :P
My mom, whenever she reads the Health & Lifestyle section of newspapers:
She's like "I've got this, I've got this, I've surely got this, and this too" -_-
OMG, I've got to have my lever checked asap!! xD xD
It is a most extraordinary thing, but I never read a patent medicine advertisement without being impelled to the conclusion that I am suffering from the particular disease therein dealt with in its most virulent form. The diagnosis seems in every case to correspond exactly with all the sensations that I have ever felt.
I plodded conscientiously through the twenty-six letters, and the only malady I could conclude I had not got was housemaid’s knee.
She's like "I've got this, I've got this, I've surely got this, and this too" -_-
In the present instance, going back to the liver-pill circular, I had the symptoms, beyond all mistake, the chief among them being “a general disinclination to work of any kind.” What I suffer in that way no tongue can tell. From my earliest infancy I have been a martyr to it. As a boy, the disease hardly ever left me for a day. They did not know, then, that it was my liver. Medical science was in a far less advanced state than now, and they used to put it down to laziness.
OMG, I've got to have my lever checked asap!! xD xD

Sorry, we don't do the politics of appeasement, Smi. If lurkers want acknowledgement, they need to make there presence noticed, otherwise we will continue ignoring them :P

No i don't... It made me laugh out loud... like actually LOL...
That 'I'm equivalent to a whoile hospital' part... And that summary at the beginning of each chapter... its fun so far...
excellent entertainer!

I'm also loving the narration :D
Initially i thought the long sentences will be boring and tedious... but they sound good.
I'm on Chapter 5.
Stuff I loved so far - their planning, the way they packed stuff... the digressions... hammering a nail... maze....
feels like something without much of a plot....

She must be learning from you... as you seem to get all those symptoms :P :P
No, you're not going to get your liver checked.... its a catch22 :P

Finished chap 2. It's really funny, but I still didn't laugh...just smiled once or twice. I guess something is REALLY wrong with me. :P
I really liked the narrator...I wish I knew his name (Jerome K. Jerome?)...
It's quality material right here, it is :)
So, right now I'm reading 3 books (to say nothing of the ugly textbooks), and I'm LOVIN' all of them. All 4 or 5 star worthy...
1. Three Men: Reading a classic after a long time, and a good wone at that. I really want a paperback now, because this is re-read worthy.
2. Ministry of Utmost Happiness: reading it this time with no expectations and liking it even better than the last time
3. Quiet: This came as a surprise. I was ready to hate it, 'cause even though I knew this was NOT a self-help book but I was still expecting it to be a self-help book in disguise. It's a 5-star material so far, but am sure I'll get bored of the repetition later (happens with almost every non-fic books.. [..I read]. they all start really good, but get all draggy in the middle and redeemed themselves in the end :P :P)
Good night, my dear bots (and lurkers too) :P

but there, everything has its drawbacks, as the man said when his mother-in-law died, and they came down upon him for the funeral expenses.
I see, mother-in-law jokes have a long history :/
That picture hanging chapter was EPIC!!!
On chapter 5 now.
On chapter 5 now.
So, the narrator is the writer himself, huh?
He's been called "J" and "Jim", short for Jerome I guess??

As for non-fiction, I think this books talks about there's to know about his views...
