Yay! Our first list! I've only read a few of those: 11/22/63, The Great Book of Amber, Carrie, Gone with the Wind, Little Women, and Don Quixote. I like your historic fiction suggestions, especially Pompeii and the Marion Zimmer Bradley ones (sent myself some Kindle samples to see how I like them). :-)

So your list is what you plan to read next? Maybe I didn't make the title clear. Eep. Sorry. I changed it a little so that perhaps it's clearer what goes here. We're asking for a list of books that you already love that you want to suggest for others to read.
I should probably open up another topic for Books You Keep Meaning to Read or Books You're Challenging Yourself to Read or Top 10 Books You Want to Read Next. This list would go there.

Sounds like you like the classics of various genres. And there's a reason why they're the classics, right? I have yet to read The War of the Worlds (I think I'd prefer that one as an audio considering its history). How does 2001 compare to the movie? Tell me what you liked about Middlemarch? I always avoided it because Eliot's Silas Marner was so snooze-worthy (pun catatonically intended).

Middlemarch; what I liked about this book (and most classics) was the view, a window into the past, that let's us see and imagine what it was like in that time. In the case of Middlemarch, that was the early 19th century England in the world of upper class nobility. When the writer is as good as George Eliot then the imagery becomes real and captivating.
2001: A Space Odyssey; almost never is a movie as good as the book but it was in this instance. It was so far ahead of it's time and quite accurately depicted future technology. The book was more detailed and answered a few of the questions involving the movie.

I've only read 1 or 2 of hers, but I loved them. The character development and world development is so rich.

That might have been an idea at some point, but I don't remember. I tend to throw out ideas and see if anyone bites. If they don't, I forget them. Did you have an idea for a group challenge you'd like to see for 2015?
