There are several pre-made literature quizzes at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... However, I'd like you to make your own personal list of must-read books that you would like to suggest for the group ... or to the world ... to read. These do not necessarily have to be in the time travel genre. Be sure to name your list (for example: "Joe's List of 50 Books That Will Change You Forever") Book links are highly recommended (using the "add book/author" link above the comment box).

You're welcome to reply with your own list, how many you've read from someone else's list, or a ticked-off list of what you've read on someone else's list.

Yay! Our first list! I've only read a few of those: 11/22/63, The Great Book of Amber, Carrie, Gone with the Wind, Little Women, and Don Quixote. I like your historic fiction suggestions, especially Pompeii and the Marion Zimmer Bradley ones (sent myself some Kindle samples to see how I like them). :-)

So your list is what you plan to read next? Maybe I didn't make the title clear. Eep. Sorry. I changed it a little so that perhaps it's clearer what goes here. We're asking for a list of books that you already love that you want to suggest for others to read.

I should probably open up another topic for Books You Keep Meaning to Read or Books You're Challenging Yourself to Read or Top 10 Books You Want to Read Next. This list would go there.

Sounds like you like the classics of various genres. And there's a reason why they're the classics, right? I have yet to read The War of the Worlds (I think I'd prefer that one as an audio considering its history). How does 2001 compare to the movie? Tell me what you liked about Middlemarch? I always avoided it because Eliot's Silas Marner was so snooze-worthy (pun catatonically intended).

Duane Parker (tduaneparkeryahoocom) | 28 comments Amy, I do like the classics. I think to read the classics it takes patience, a stick-to-it attidude, and even then it can be slow going sometime.

Middlemarch; what I liked about this book (and most classics) was the view, a window into the past, that let's us see and imagine what it was like in that time. In the case of Middlemarch, that was the early 19th century England in the world of upper class nobility. When the writer is as good as George Eliot then the imagery becomes real and captivating.

2001: A Space Odyssey; almost never is a movie as good as the book but it was in this instance. It was so far ahead of it's time and quite accurately depicted future technology. The book was more detailed and answered a few of the questions involving the movie.

I've only read 1 or 2 of hers, but I loved them. The character development and world development is so rich.

I know, I was thinking the same! I'm reading, for sure :)

Paul (Life In The Slow Lane) (paullovesgin) I condensed my list down to just 5 books that I thought have left a lasting impression on me. Here they are in no particular order:

1. To Kill a Mockingbird https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

2. The Five People You Meet In Heaven https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

3. Moments of Truth https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

4. The Day of The Triffids https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

5. Puckoon https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

Candace (cprimackqcom) Do I remember correctly that these may play a part of our 2015 challenge? That is my "real" question and I could not find a better place to put it; do we have a discussion and/or plans for our 2015 challenge? If so, where have I missed it?

Thx

That might have been an idea at some point, but I don't remember. I tend to throw out ideas and see if anyone bites. If they don't, I forget them. Did you have an idea for a group challenge you'd like to see for 2015?

message 15: by Candace (new)

Candace (cprimackqcom) Not off hand, personally I want to go back and try to read some of the group reads I've missed.

Michael Stern | 10 comments Great lists everyone. I have a problem picking books. I'm a batch reader sort of. When I find an author, I like to keep going. My list would start with the best one-time author, Harper Lee. She wrote the great American novel, To Kill A Mockingbird.
Mark Twain, Roughing It
Michener, Centennial
Jeffrey Archer, Kane and Abel
Steinbeck, Travels with Charley
Leon Uris-Armaggedon
Tolkien-The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings
J K Rowling-all the Harry Potter books
Dumas-Count of Monte Cristo (just read for 1st time)
Puzo-The Godfather
James Clavell-Noble House
Grisham-Pelican Brief
Dan Brown-DaVinci Code
Jeff Shaara-WWII trilogy
Doris Kearns Goodwin-all her books
Robert Leckie-Helmet for my Pillow
Stephen Ambrose-Band of Brothers
Allen Guelzo-Gettysburg-the LastInvasion (best book I've read on the topic)
John Jakes-North and South trilogy, Kent Family Chronicles.

We ought to include some new indie authors too. There's some really creative work being produced.

DM Cain-Chronicles of Chaos
Krista Walsh-Evensong
Travis Luedke-if you like vampire tales
C.L Schneider-Crown of Stones
John A Heldt-The Mine (Time Travel)
Vicky Savage-The Transcender Trilogy

If I spent more time, I'm sure the list would be longer.
