Janice (jamasc) | 49990 comments I realized our old thread was getting pretty long, so decided to start a new one for 2017.

I guess it's time to start thinking about what I want to read in February. I've used my 2 rationed credits at Audible this morning and bought three books. One of them is for my survey challenge, so maybe I'll read it in Feb. Once I finish work tonight, I'll do some planning.

Kristie | 14188 comments I actually did quite well with my February plans. I just went back and checked off my 'currently reading' books that I expect to finish before the end of the month and that leaves me with only 1 that I didn't get to. I'll probably add it to March. My March plans are not set just yet. I'll be back to post after the toppler.

message 11: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Mar 28, 2017 01:48PM) (new)

Kristie | 14188 comments My first thoughts for March:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - YLTO yearly challenge
Bitterblue - YLTO yearly challenge

The Book of Lost Things - YLTO BOTM
On What Grounds - YLTO yearly challenge

Maybe:
I See You - NetGalley
My Not So Perfect Life - NetGalley (currently reading)
Always - NetGalley
The Night Stalker - YLTO yearly challenge
First Grave on the Right - YLTO yearly challenge

This will probably change. I'm feeling indecisive where I want to focus my energy.

Kristie | 14188 comments As usual, this may change, but my plans for April so far will be some of these:
Before We Were Yours - NetGalley
The Forever Summer - yearly challenge & NetGalley
Behind Closed Doors - group read in another group
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - yearly challenge & group read in another group
First Grave on the Right - yearly challenge

My Not So Perfect Life - NetGalley
Treasure Island - YLTO group read & yearly challenge
The Ghost Brigades - YLTO monthly challenge / buddy read
You Are a Badass - toppler
The Serpent King - buddy read

message 14: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 14188 comments I don't know why I add so many books to my list every month. I know I can typically get to about 6, but I add almost double that every month, then stress trying to get them all done. I'll have to relax my plans a lot come summer.

Sarah | 18196 comments I used to write down too many and get stressed out by it. Now I only plan around 2-3 books and any extras are a bonus.

It would appear this thread isn't getting used as much as it did last year.

message 17: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 14188 comments I need to start doing that too, Sarah. I just have so many challenges, reviews, and group reads I want to complete that I never know where to start.

I noticed that this thread wasn't getting much use this year. I'm not sure why. Maybe people are just planning less?

message 18: by Sarah, Moderator (new)

Sarah | 18196 comments I guess many of us have our own reading corner where we list books to be read that month.

message 19: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 49990 comments Sarah wrote: "I guess many of us have our own reading corner where we list books to be read that month."

I've noticed a few people are using their thread in the YLTO Member Zone to list their monthly plans.

It's strange because I never used to plan at all. I'd finish one book and start another at whim. But now, I have challenges, group reads, personal goals, etc and I need a list to tell me what to read next.

message 20: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 14188 comments That's true, Janice. I've noticed people using their member threads for that too.

I have a document on my laptop that tells me what I need to read for challenges, group reads, etc. I tend to switch books around a bit, but it's nice to see what my thoughts were and how far I got.

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 49990 comments I hope so, Cherie. I was drawn to the book the first time I saw it. Then Audible offered it in the 2-1 sale and I had to get it. I hope I haven't put too high of expectations on it.

Stephan | 69 comments I'm planning on a single book for the next 30 days after finishing S.

If I dare it's going to be:
Worm by Wildbow.

Why only one single book?
It's got (view spoiler) pages :)

I'm even considering putting it up as a buddy read, but I'm afraid it's too long for anybody to actually join in..

message 25: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 14188 comments Holy moly! That's a lot of pages. It's like a full series in one book. It sounds interesting. I'll be curious to see what you think. I feel like I'd get tired of the book after a while. I have that issue with series sometimes. I just want them to wrap it up already.

message 26: by Stephan (new)

Stephan | 69 comments Yeah, that's a bit what I'm worried about. On the other hand I can get to share a looong ride with a good story and really be part of it. And I get to be proud of myself after I made it all the way!

message 27: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

lol! If you notice, a lot are a spill over from April!

In addition most of those CALDECOTT AWARD WINNING CONNECTIONS Challenge books are VERY small illustrated children's books (40 pages on average). The challenge is to read those and then match up an adult book with them in some way (by subject, or word in the title, matching author's name, etc.) So read fifty Caldecott winners and then fifty adult books. Consequently, I have upped my 2017 Reading Challenge count by 50 books in order to keep the challenge, by pages, closer to my previous year's goals of 200 books per year.

So the list is not as impressive as it looks. AND I'm not as impressive as I think ! *grin*

I will most likely have spillover into June. 21 books of average size is a lot even for me.

But that won't stop me from buying/ordering more. It's a sickness, lol.

You should try!☺ We so often miss the small books because of our challenges. These take no effort and some of the illustrations are fabulous. A lot of the winners also tell a story of some other culture. I plan to read all that have been listed, even though I only have to do 50 of them. (Won't be doing 50 matching adult ones though.☻)
