Which book?

Sweet as Honey (Aster Valley, #2) by Lucy Lennox Sweet as Honey by Lucy Lennox
or
Sweet as Honey (The Honeybee Sisters #1) by Jennifer Beckstrand Sweet as Honey by Jennifer Beckstrand

They are very different kinds of books. Both of my libraries have Beckstrand books but only one has books by Lennox.

I loved that one and wish the series had gone on for more than just four books. But I say that about most of his series, "It ended too soon!"

I have enjoyed the previous two books. Love her description of Edinburgh and life at that time. I recommend you read them in order.

Zermeena | 725 comments I read A Place for Us, but I can't recommend it. There was no plot. Only a very long rambling story about a family's interpersonal relationships. The POV and timeline changes without warning or any indication. It ended with no resolution - the family never addressed their problems. Two stars.

Alice | 756 comments I am reading Murder at the Merton Library Murder at the Merton Library (Wrexford & Sloane, #7) by Andrea Penrose by Andrea Penrose. Ms. Penrose has done a great job with growing the characters in this series. It keeps the series fresh and makes you want to read more. She does a great job mixing the historical/scientific facts of the era into each book start with book one though. You will miss too much of the background if you just jump in with this book.

Lots of discussion of the Poll Tax introduced and the death of Edward III. As usual his glossary is excellent. He does a great job of describing the food of the time. I don't think I could eat it. Cozy without the mystery. It's a Hallmark movie in book form. I really liked the Muslim content. It's different. I've read her first two books and I liked learning about the Desi community in those too.

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments Scrooge-ish by L.B. Dunbar ** Naughty-ish by L.B. Dunbar
The last non-cozies I read were the holiday-themed books Scrooge-ish and Naughty-ish by L.B. Dunbar, from her Holiday Hotties series.

I enjoyed both stories, I think I liked the second one better.

The second, Naughty-ish, had a great Christmas "DO" list. The heroine had just gotten divorced and forced to move into a smaller house with her kids. She wasn't in the holiday mood, but made a list of things to do for herself and her kids. Her (hottie) neighbor helped her change her list and her attitude...

* Buy presents Be present.
* Wrap gifts Wrap someone in a hug
* Send gifts Send peace
* Shop for food Donate food (and/or time)
* Make cookies Make love
* See the lights Be the light

She later added...
* Build a home (full of traditions)
* Love your family
* Be happy and better

The title of the book comes from her want to be a bit naughty (Naughty-ish). Her hero-next-door was all too willing to help her with her entire list. He's the one who helped her reset her holiday priorities.

Maybe. The ones I was reading before I discovered cozies got a little too raunchy for me.

This one is like a Hallmark movie because the small town is the setting of a new movie filming in town, a follow up to a popular "Heartline" channel movie! The grandfather, Dadu, LOVES Christmas movies, especially the one that aired on the Heartline Channel.

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments Tempted and Taken (Italian Stallions Book 6) by Mari Carr
Tempted and Taken by Mari Carr from her Italian Stallions series.

As usual when not reading cozies I'm reading romance. This is the sixth book in the series. A prequel interlude, Naughty and Nice, was issued in December to whet our appetites until the couple's full story came out. The December "encounter" was hot! This was good, but -- for me, at least -- was not as good. I love the couple and the story was good, just not as good.

There are two more (I believe) left in this series. I've enjoyed all entries, some more than others. However, all have been good.
