Goodreads tags it as cozy, but it isn’t. There is a paranormal tone to it, which some may enjoy, but not my cup of tea.

I don't usually read non-fiction but this book was fascinating. I am something of a World War 2 fan, so that may be why I enjoyed it so much. The author is a journalist.

Just finished the Piper Stone three-book Legacy of Kings series.
*01 Sinner - Xander & Jessica
*02 Seducer - Zachariah & Sara
*03 Seducer - Wilder & Cassandra
I rated all three 3.5 (rolled to 4 because I liked them more than a 3.0 rating. There were things I liked and didn't like about each story, including the fact that they all started out slow. However, they held my interest with their three mysteries interwoven with one mystery that shadows all the books. And, I liked that the women were strong characters, equals to their men.
The series is listed as "dark," and with the subject matter, it is. Plus the first book started a bit creepy for my liking, but not so horrible that I'd put it down. The other negative... While the stories are complete, I felt there were threads left hanging. There is an overall satisfactory ending, that isn't negated by the "threads," but I prefer when all my questions are answered.

I have a friend whose mother worked as a codebreaker during the war! I never met the mother, but my friend says she was super good at the Jumble puzzles in the newspapers.

If you like stories about women doing amazing things in WW2, you might want to check out A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II. There are several WW2 history buffs in our family, and only one of them had ever even *heard of Virginia Hall, let alone be knowledgeable about what she did.

Thanks for that Barb. My tbr list is growing!

I did a tour in Peru earlier this. We were given this book along with The Gold Eaters and a Peruvian cookbook. I haven't read it as yet, but your review may spur me on. By the way Peru is a fabulous country to visit if anyone is considering it.

I finished the book today. Absolutely excellent. The romance is wonderful. Samantha's mother's dementia will make you want to cry, especially if you have been around loved ones with dementia. The animal care is awesome. One of the best books I read this year.
