Kristin | 2 comments Waiting for the audio version of Peace Talks by Jim Butcher to come in on my library waitlist. I am loving this series and James Marsters narrates it so perfectly.

I guess I am going to have to be patient and wait for the release of book 18 after I finish this one and Battle Ground.

I don't usually read non-fiction but this book was fascinating. I am something of a World War 2 fan, so that may be why I enjoyed it so much. The author is a journalist.

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments ** Sinner (Legacy of Kings #1) by Piper Stone ** Seducer (Legacy of Kings #2) by Piper Stone ** Seducer (Legacy of Kings #2) by Piper Stone **

Just finished the Piper Stone three-book Legacy of Kings series.

*01 Sinner - Xander & Jessica
*02 Seducer - Zachariah & Sara
*03 Seducer - Wilder & Cassandra

I rated all three 3.5 (rolled to 4 because I liked them more than a 3.0 rating. There were things I liked and didn't like about each story, including the fact that they all started out slow. However, they held my interest with their three mysteries interwoven with one mystery that shadows all the books. And, I liked that the women were strong characters, equals to their men.

The series is listed as "dark," and with the subject matter, it is. Plus the first book started a bit creepy for my liking, but not so horrible that I'd put it down. The other negative... While the stories are complete, I felt there were threads left hanging. There is an overall satisfactory ending, that isn't negated by the "threads," but I prefer when all my questions are answered.

Zermeena | 725 comments I listened to The Woman Who Smashed Codes: A True Story of Love, Spies, and the Unlikely Heroine who Outwitted America's Enemies. It was little too dry for me, but the story was fascinating. It was about the life of Elisebeth Smith Friedman was a code breaker during WWI and WWII. She played a crucial role in helping America win the invisible war of spies.

I have a friend whose mother worked as a codebreaker during the war! I never met the mother, but my friend says she was super good at the Jumble puzzles in the newspapers.

If you like stories about women doing amazing things in WW2, you might want to check out A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II. There are several WW2 history buffs in our family, and only one of them had ever even *heard of Virginia Hall, let alone be knowledgeable about what she did.
