I finished Syndrome E
by Franck ThilliezFive mutilated bodies in France - with their skulltops sawn off - are connected with insidious movies in Belgium....films that contain subliminal messages. Detective Lucie Hennebelle and Chief Inspector Franck Sharko investigate. Good thriller. 3.5 stars

Have just finished a really good espionage/ thriller/ murder-mystery/ historical romance
This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Linda wrote: "Finished Every Dead Thing and started The Late Show by Michael Connelly."I'm having a really tough time reading "Every Dead Thing". Maybe because I have no way to relate to the characters. Was it worth the read? Worth it for me to finish the book? Thanks
Lay Me to Rest by E.A. Clark is a debut novel that looks to be the start of a series. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Dead, Bath, and Beyond
and am trying to figure out how this book was even published it's so bad. All the characters are idiots, the MC can't make up her mind for 2 seconds about anything and the author could give a flying fig about any kind of timeline. I wanted to strangle the MC after two chapters. Also I don't like someone having HER characters, female ones at that, stating that ALL women have self-confidence issues and that's just how life is.
I'm reading and enjoying one of the OCT picks, Iron Lake by Krueger. Still plugging along with Crime and Punishment
Finished
The Accident by Dawn Goodwin, a slow burning, but definitely explosive debut psychological thriller. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Reading Kindle Scout books - for those of you who don't know, Kindle Scout is a forum for aspiring authors to attempt to publish themselves, and the "winners" get Amazon's help to publish their works. It's an easy way to get free copies of books; but, however, as you might imagine, there's a lot of poor writing that must be waded through to find good ones.
I was pleased with this one however: a very suspenseful mystery/thriller by TJ Frost called Fight for Life.
I'm almost finished An Eye For An Eye by T. F. Muir. A very good read. I will be starting Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King.
I'm a little more than halfway through Three Minutes by Sweden's Anders Roslund and it is strong. A main character operating undercover for the US DEA in Colombia, as the wingman for a senior level cartel member, with a target on his and his family's backs and rapidly diminishing time to escape.
I finished Every Night I Dream of Hell by Malcolm Mackay. My review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

A Mind To Kill by John NichollA Mind To Kill

I finished Murder in the Courthouse
by Nancy GraceIn this third book in the "Hailey Dean" mystery series Hailey is set to testify at the trial of Todd Adams, accused of killing his nine-months-pregnant wife. While Hailey's in Savannah, Georgia for the trial, she gets to investigate a couple of other murders. Nice atmospheric, cozy(ish) mystery with interesting characters. 3.5 stars

Finished
The Coven by Graham Masterton. Not my favourite book by this author, but a passable read. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This was a reread for me, as I had an ARC early on and I needed to refresh my memory to write my review for publication. Enjoyed it every bit as much second time around.
And So It Began by Owen Mullen. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished Into the Water
by Paula HawkinsThe English town of Beckford lies alongside a river that has a bend called 'the drowning pool'....where women tend to die by murder or suicide. When two deaths occur close together, much drama ensues. Very complex plot with a LOT of characters....but it's a pretty good story. 3.5 stars

The Surrogate by Louise Jensen after I finished
The Mistake by K.L. Slater which wasn't as good as I was expecting. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Loved Aussie author Michael Robotham's debut novel, The Suspect, (#1 in The Joe O'Loughlin Series), which was written 13 years ago, so I've got some catching up to do!

I finished an outstanding read over the weekend
The Surrogate by Louise Jensen. If you haven't read it yet, I urge you to do so. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm reading The Usual Santas: A Collection of Soho Crime Christmas Capers
which is a short story collection edited by Peter Lovesey. It's a great collection of mysteries set around or about Christmas by an amazing collection of authors from around the world. Really enjoying it. Comes out in a couple weeks.
There are so many really good books out there right now. Here's another one to add to your pile. ...
If You Only Knew by Cynthia Clark https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
I just finished reading The Simple Truth by David Baldacci. You can read my review at http://world-of-sleuths.blogspot.com/....Earlier this year, I read and reviewed The Policewoman by Justin W.M. Roberts. After my review and several others criticizing similar items as me, the author made changes to the book and has sent me an updated copy of the book to review. I will start reading that updated copy tomorrow morning.
Just finished I Let You Go
and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She writes very detailed so you can easily imagine each scene. I recently picked up her book I See You, but also Wanderers
. Any help on picking which to read?
I'm just getting into the first Inspector Jury mystery, The Man With a Load of Mischief by Martha Grimes
The Broken Window
by Jeffery DeaverQuadriplegic forensic expert Lincoln Rhyme and his partner Amelia Sachs have to clear Linc's cousin of a murder charge. The real culprit uses data mining to lure victims and frame innocent people. Pretty good mystery. 3 stars

I expect Rizzoli and Isles fans will enjoy Tess Gerritsen's latest I Know a Secret, which is still available on NetGalley for NetGalley readers.

Just finished the latest Louise Penny, Glass Houses - very good - and am now reading a Brother Cadfael (The Devil's Novice).
I've barely slept in the last 3 nights giving me lots of time to finish rereading The Wine of Angels, by Phil Rickman. It's an intelligent literary crime novel with mild supernatural overtones that exposes a lot of the secrets held by a small English village, but it is as far away from any cozy mysteries or Miss Marple as you can get.
Nancy wrote: "but it is as far away from any cozy mysteries or Miss Marple as you can get. "Oh, goodie!

Oh, goodie!"
Oh yes. It's a good one.
If I'm awake again tonight, I'm going to start Midwinter of the Spirit.

What's keeping you up? My sister couldn't sleep Sunday night because it was windy so she got up around 2:30 and looked out to see a wall of flames rushing down the valley towards their house. They made it out just in time.

Are they okay? Oh my god. That's awful, Tom.
I have no clue why -- this just happens to me every so often and I'm awake for 3 or 4 days before I just crash.

Nancy wrote: "Are they okay? Oh my god. That's awful, Tom.."They are fine but my nephew cut it pretty close. He stayed another half hour and ended up driving through burning brush and falling trees. I don't know whether to slap him on the shoulder or call him an idiot.
