Emily, yes please do use spoiler tags if needed. Some people like to read the discussion about a book if they’re thinking about reading it, so we aim for them to be as spoiler free as possible. :-)

Read count is wrong but the books shelved are correct. How do I correct this? I have read and shelved 33 of the 52 books from AROUND THE YEAR IN 52 BOOKS but my shelf says YOU HAVE READ 25 OF 52 BOOKS.
All 33 are showing up though.
Donna - Check that the books have a finish date. If you just mark the book read, it doesn’t set the date.
When that happens to me, I usually just delete my bookshelf and re-add it. It always comes back with the proper count.
I had the same issue earlier this week where it was showing two fewer than it should. It fixed itself after a day or two, I didn't alter anything. I just assumed the site was having a bit of a wobble, it seems to do that every now and then.
Hi! Although I joined the group in the begin of the year I wasn't able to keep up with my reading till now. I wanted to know if I can randomly pick a challenge (as long as I complete all the 52 challenges) or do I need to go with the current challenge?

Some of us like to read in order but others complete the challenge in any order they like. Either is totally fine. :-)

I went to see if a topic has been created for one of the books I read and there is no X for the book titles.
There is a folder created for 'X' titles, there just aren't any titles posted that start with that letter. You will see the option in the drop-down box when you go to create the thread.
Joy, we don't have a reading map this year. We did a poll at the end of 2017 about different group features and the majority of people indicated they don't use or weren't introduced in continuing with the reading map, so we discontinued it this year.
Is there going to be an official "I've completed the challenge" thread? I plan to finish in the next week or so and just wondered if I should start a thread or if the mods usually create one or if I should just stay over here in a dark corner with no acknowledgement of my accomplishment or what? Honestly, I don't just want somewhere to boast but I'd love to cheer for other people as well.
In the past, people have just posted their success in their individual planning thread.
But a dedicated thread sounds like a great idea! Feel free to create one when you're finished :)

Perfect! Where would you like me to post it (like, in what section)?
I am new to the group (joined only this week) and I find quite time consuming the planning. It’s good, I have been in lots of GR lists, my TBR increased a lot, but some prompts demands lots of research. It’s just me or you guys have the same problem? Just for me to know if I am not putting to much time in this.
Welcome Sofia! I do find some prompts need quite a lot of research to find something I want to read, but then others can be quite easy to fill. Have you found the weekly topics threads in the group? They’re a good starting point when you’re looking for a book for each topic, and you can get ideas from what other people have said they are reading for that topic. You could also ask for recommendations in the thread for any topics you’re finding hard to fill, people are usually happy to help make suggestions if you ask.
Sofia, just to add on to Bryony's suggestions, there is a group 'Bookshelf' on the right side. I go through about once per week and add all books mentioned in the A-Z folders and the progress posts. So those shelves should have a pretty comprehensive list of what others are reading for each week. I'm a bit behind but that should definitely have all books read through the month of June. If you click 'Bookshelf' then you will see each week on the left-hand side.
Sofia, welcome! You can also check out the ATY Community Spreadsheet, and you can see on there what books people are reading for each prompt. I've found some of my weekly choices on there!

Great tips, thank you so much, make me feel so welcoming! I've found the weekly topics and they have helped a lot. Haven't explore the spreadsheet yet, gonna take some time going through it. And I have found Laura's tip very interesting, gonna give a look to that Bookshelf too.
Hi! I joined the challenge in April but I'm properly starting it today. Is that okay?
Also, I am a bit confused we have to read for the particular week we are in - or we can read any prompt we want?
Welcome Karishma! You’re welcome to start the challenge any time so absolutely fine to join in now.You can complete the prompts in whatever order you choose. Some people try to read in order and finish a book each week, but most people read in whatever order they like. We’re a pretty relaxed group and either is totally fine.
If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask. Enjoy the challenge!
Another thing - do we have a page limit minimum. Since I'm starting late I thought I will get through some short books(below 100 pages) - from this list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...Will that be okay?
Don't forget you can fill the prompts with the books you already read in 2018! Not everything will match of course, but you should be able to check some categories. No problem for the short reads, I usually use some picture books, graphic novels or novellas in the challenge, so I've more time for side-reads and continuing series.
Zaz wrote: "Don't forget you can fill the prompts with the books you already read in 2018! Not everything will match of course, but you should be able to check some categories. No problem for the short reads,..."
Okay, thanks! There are many small classics and novellas I want to read. I will get them done this way!
Ana > I also point when the matching is bad (we had some fun with the "no E in the title" category and people using titles with "the"), but if the person wants to keep the book or totally change the prompt, I don't care. Maybe you can try this approach ;)
Ana A wrote: "I need...emotional help? Lol. Ugh. I randomly check other people's ATY list to look for inspiration, and I saw a member who put down a book that didn't match the prompt. I wanted to help so I point..."Yea, This was definitely an emotional conversation going on...Honestly Ana, I think that even though you were trying to be helpful some of your wording may have come off as a little confrontational ( for example , the word "authority") . I think this relates a lot to the conversation going in several of the topics right now. Text or typing in a comment, even though we may mean to be helpful, can sometimes be lost in translation, like the context doesn't always come through as intended. So I think the problem was a comment came off as an attack ( whether intended or not) and then there was a counter attack ( or a defense of someones valid choices). I don't think anyone left the conversation feeling validated or happy about what transpired.
Also, in planning the prompts, we have a lot of readers here that are not as "by the the book" in their interpretations of prompts. I know for certain prompts I can be a little loose in my interpretations, and I'm ok with that. My goal is to find books to fit that prompts that won't discourage me from finishing, and to complete the challenge. If you look at all of the plans you'll see that there is a lot of creativity going on out there :-)
Example: I posted about next years food prompt.... with three years of challenges now planned ( but not all completed) I've done the food prompt in several ways. My way of avoiding reading about food again or trying to find another book with a food item in the title ( and yes there are many) was to decide to read a book about anorexia/bulemia. It's a subject that I haven't read about before, that I know people who personally struggle with it and that is "related " to food. Some members here may agree and some may disagree but I'm going to run with it.
There are no exact sciences to how people make their lists here, some people do the whole challenge, some do partial, some are a little less strict with interpreting prompts, and some even pull the "wildcard"
I think its less about pointing out whats "wrong" with someones challenge because it may not be wrong for them and more about getting some really great book recommendations and cheering each other on as we all try and work towards our goals. After all, we all wouldn't be here if we didn't just love to read :-)
Zaz wrote: "Ana > I also point when the matching is bad (we had some fun with the "no E in the title" category and people using titles with "the"), but if the person wants to keep the book or totally change th..."hahahaha , Zaz that was my first ATY challenge and it took me 3 tries to get the title with no E because my brain kept disregarding the word "The" at the start of titles ;-)
Also, coming into a different thread from the argument you were having and claiming you were "attacked" is just not constructive. All that does is throw the other person under the bus. I'm not saying you shouldn't come into this thread with concerns, since that's what this thread is for. But "attacked" comes off as confrontational just like "authority" does. Word choice, as I'm sure you are well aware being an english teacher, is very important when conveying tone.
It does feel a bit like a tattle to come in here :P But I also appreciate it since I rarely monitor the 'plan' section. Ha!
I'm an English teacher. I have the authority to say that a fragment is not a sentence. --> I'm going to be a bit blunt but the choice of words there were a bit rude. Like I said in the Plan section, I really do think your intention was good since you gave a list of books but it went a bit downhill. Happens to the best of us.

Your first comment was reasonable, Ana. But the other member's response was also definitely reasonable seeing as it is her thread, and her challenge. If ultimately she doesn’t agree with you, it’s not your business whether or not she reads what you think the prompt can entail.
oops my bad I edited the message accordingly. If your intention wasn't to tattle, you shouldn't claim you were attacked. But I digress, this really isn't my business to begin with and I've put in my due 2 cents so I'm just gonna leave it at that
Seriously guys... It's so off-putting to come back to this group and see drama in at least 3 different topics. Are we here to have fun or to argue over everything? Debate is healthy, bickering is not.
I agree, Sophie. I’m almost at the point of leaving because the atmosphere is often so toxic and condescending in here now. I took a bit of a break while I’ve been away, but decided to check in a bit over the past couple of days, and it’s on like Donkey Kong. Not good.
I come on Goodreads because everyone is usually nice and I don’t have to see people arguing about everything from politics to religion and everything in between. I’ve already left one group on here because I didn’t like it anymore and I felt uneasy whenever I opened a thread. I usually only open threads that I’m having trouble filling to see what other people suggest so I seem to be missing the “unrest” on here. Which is good. Even though I did seek this particular conflict out to see what all the fuss was about.
All I can say is play nice peoples.
It hasn't been very long since I've been looking at or posting on the threads here due to personal circumstances. When I first came back, I noticed mention of conflict and people leaving the group and took a quick look around to see what was going on. I watch and I usually leave it at that. I have to say today was quite a busy day on the threads. I feel like there was some constructive debate and some drama. Unfortunately, I involved myself in the drama. Its been bothering me all day, to the point where I've considered removing my comment. Honestly, I was trying to offer a helpful point of view to deflect what I was seeing, and encourage enjoying the challenge and supporting each other. I hope that it was constructive and that it didn't offend anyone, because that would make me sad....
Don’t be sad Tracy my love. I’ve learned that you can’t please all of the people all of the time. So don’t worry about it.

There's always drama around the new list because people discuss a lot more. Maybe the 1st year was calm, but not since. It can be a good thing to avoid the discussions in the project folder if your sensitive or you can block members to avoid their comments if you're on a computer (it adds a spoiler link to their posts, so it's up to you if you want to check what they say or not).Tracy > your comments weren't offensive or whatever ;)
