Anna | 1007 comments Happy New Year everyone!
I am having the same problem as Angela above. The 2019 ATY challenge doesn't appear when I go to the group home. I wanted to write in the "challenge box" as instructed, but it's not there.

message 502: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments I’ve just set up the 2019 challenge so it should appear on the group home page now. :-)

Will we be having another Read-A-Thon soon?

message 508: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
There should be another read-a-thon in March since we try to stick to a seasonal schedule. I'll post a poll for the date in the next week or so.

As a side note, I have been contemplating doing a 24 in 48 event once in between the read-a-thon. I'm not sure where it originated, but I saw it on Litsy. The goal is just to try to read for 24 hours within a 48-hour period. It seems like some people on Litsy just say 24 hours in a weekend.

It would definitely be lower-key than the read-a-thon, maybe with a hashtag or a way to share photos and then a group clock of some sort.

Any thoughts on this?

message 509: by Betty (new)

Betty Q | 109 comments I couldn’t read for 24 of 48 hours, but maybe 12 of 48. Would you have to commit to the entire 24 or could you participate with fewer hours?

message 510: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I would say the general goal is just to read as much as possible. Few people on litsy actually get to the 24. I think it just has closer time-tracking than a typical read-a-thon

Sounds challenging--but I'd be interested in giving it a try.

message 517: by Adam (new)

Adam Smith (chaos624) | 1197 comments I’m mostly just curious, but whatever happened to the Around the World Reading Map projects? The ones where people would input where their books took place and build a general map of all the places they’ve been through books during the year.

It was a really fun idea, but I don’t think it’s been done since 2017.

message 518: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I took a lot of time to keep updated, so at the end of the year 2017 we asked if members were actually using it. Since the response wasn’t overwhelming we decided not to continue. But I agree that it was a fun feature!

It’s a shame to hear that. If only there were a less labour intensive way of doing it. It would be awesome to see us dominate the globe again someday.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I knew you had megalomaniac dreams Adam 😂

message 521: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1025 comments As of 2/25/2019 it says I have read only 12 books toward this challenge. However, when I click to view the books, it lists all 15 that I have read and are on the ATY 2019 shelf! Weird... :)

Happens all the time unfortunately. Usually it corrects itself. Sometimes you end up having to go in and redo your shelf to fix it. Depends on how important it is to you. Mine wasn't showing all of my books the other day on my counter so I went in and checked the dates on my reviews. I needed to add start dates to books that were being added from my kindle and it ended up fixing my count. Good luck :-)

Thanks! I didn't realize it is common. I guess it really doesn't matter. I'll have them recorded on the 2019 ATY page on my blog. And, who knows, maybe it will correct itself! :)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Entropia wrote: "wow, that map thing you guys mentioned sounds cool, shame I wasn't even on GR back when it was a thing"

It was pretty cool! You can find the topics in the archives if you’re interested to have a look.

message 526: by Entropia (new)

Entropia | 283 comments I just checked it out (the map from 2017 wasn't working though) and I found the timeline thing which is pretty cool too :3

message 527: by Adam (new)

Adam Smith (chaos624) | 1197 comments I think it would be fun to brainstorm a new way of doing the book map if possible. Something less labour intensive for the mods so it can rise again.

Betty Q | 109 comments I don’t see a place to ask questions about the upcoming read-a-thon, so I’m posting it here. I have two books that I’m currently reading, do I count those if I finish them? Or do I have to start and finish during the read-a-thon for them to count?

message 537: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
If you're referring to the team game (which will be posted shortly), you can count anything that has at least 100 pages remaining once the read-a-thon starts.

message 538: by Jen (new)

Jen, I have it under week 34, A book with a person's name in the title. It would also work for:

3. A book where the author’s name contains A, T, and Y
41. A book from the 2018 GR Choice Awards
52. A book with a weird or intriguing title

And likely:
1. A book that was nominated for or won an award in a genre you enjoy
21. A book from one of the polarizing or close call votes

There may be others but I haven't read it yet so not totally sure.

message 541: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
It could also fit:

26. 4 books inspired by the wedding rhyme: Book #4 Something Blue (because of the cover)
36. A book featured on an NPR Best Books of the Year list (in 2017)

I enjoyed it so much so I hope you do too!

message 542: by Jen (new)

Jen (jentrewren) | 78 comments Thank you Emily and Laura,
I will probably slot it in at 36 or 41 since I have done 1, 3 and 52 and have a book lined up for 21 plus my version doesn't have a blue cover so 26 is out.

Too early in the year to be reading books which don't fit a prompt for ATY or PS.

message 543: by Celia (new)

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) Hi, so I'm new here, can I backdate to the beginning of the year for my 52 books? Thanks

message 544: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Celia! Of course you can slot any book you’ve read this year in the challenge. 😃

message 545: by Betty (new)

Betty Q | 109 comments What is the bookshelf feature used for? Can anyone add books? I was thinking this would be a good place to recommend books to others since I've read a few books this year that I've really enjoyed but they are not well known.

message 546: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Yes, feel to add any book that counts for the prompt.

Just search for a book on the left, find the book and then choose either 'edit' or 'add to group'

You can choose to add the book to any shelf that fits or that you recommend the book for. We just ask that you keep them all at 'read' and that you add it to the general 'around the year 2019' shelf at the top.

It really is just an alternative way to quickly find books that fit the prompts.

message 547: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Alternatively you can also add it to the ATY listopia and recommend it in this topic: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments Am I confused or is the posting for current week at the top of the group page incorrect?

It says: "Current Week: #12 (Tuesday March 26 to Monday April 1)"

But wasn't Week 13 from the 26th - 1st ?
And aren't we now on Week 14?

Shouldn't it be: "Current Week: #14 (Tuesday April 2 to Monday April 8)" ?

Week - Dates
1. 1-7
2. 8-14
3. 15-21
4. 22-28
5. 29-4
6. 5-11
7. 12-18
8. 19-25
9. 26-4
10. 5-11
11. 12-17
12. 18-25
13. 26-1
14. 2-8

According to the tracker, I'm one book behind... which means I should have had Week 13 read yesterday (I've only read through Week 12). So we would be in Week 14, according to the tracker, with Week 14 ending on Monday, and Week 15 beginning next Tuesday.

(*mildly panicking about being so far behind*)

Yes, I’ll admit I forget to update that frequently 😳

I’ll fix it the next time I’m on a computer.
