Ah, I just clicked Close before clicking Save-thanks Laura

Each year the list is created by members through a voting process (as you may already know). The polarizing prompts are those that many liked but also many disliked. The close call prompts are those that were close to being voted in.
You can find a list here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
So for that prompt, you can choose any of the topics on that list.

Hey mods!
In your newsletter this month, can you add in a reminder to update the community spreadsheet?
Thanks!

I don't see the "Notify me..." link. Is it just me, or is it because the thread is frozen?

If you have the app, you should be able to follow it on there if you open the thread. I think there is a way to follow it on the desktop version when the thread is frozen, but I'm not sure how.

We froze the topic since people were still commenting in the thread and we didn't want all subscribers to get notified of those comments needlessly.
But since it did get rid of the ability to subscribe, I've unlocked it.
Hopefully people read the rules and don't comment ;)

Hey! In the newsletter for September, can y'all include a reminder to update the community spreadsheet? Thanks!

ex:
setting up the 2020 list
Do you list the books according to an order?
Do you have to read them in that order?
Can you change books once your book list is "set"?
How do you proceed after you read the book?
Do you post a review?
Where?
I have seen people post reviews in the "plans" page, somewhere I read there is a list a-z, is that for reviews or just book names?
What is meant by bottom books and other such designations?
Is there a compilation page that shows what to do on one page?
Thanks for your help !
Hey MaryAnn!
The goal of this group is to have fun reading, so we generally do not police your choices much. Once the 2020 prompts are all chosen, we will create a list in order for the prompts. We don't dictate which books you have to read for each prompt, and you can definitely choose to not read the prompts in order! Most of our members read the list in whatever order suits their needs.
We have planning posts for anyone who wants to make a plan. Some people choose one or two books for each prompt and stick to those books... other people list 5-10 books per prompt and still manage to throw away their plan midway through the year (like me haha!)
After you read a book, there are a few things you can do: post in the weekly thread for the prompt, add the book to the A-Z folders, and update your plan, just to name a few. You aren't required to do any of these things (or write a review), but you are encouraged to participate in the conversation however you feel comfortable. For me, when I particularly love or hate a book, I'm more inclined to write about it, but I don't often write about the books that were so-so.
The A-Z folders are for reviews. Before adding a book, make sure the thread for that book doesn't already exist. If it does, feel free to join that conversation!
When we are choosing the prompts for next year's list, for each poll, we designate prompts as Top (making it on to the list next year), Bottom (eliminated from the process), Close Call (almost made it in, but didn't quite have the votes), or Polarizing (had a large number of top and bottom votes).
You can check out more information here: Group Rules
Hope I answered all of your questions!

Unfortunately, that wouldn’t have helped anyway since you wouldn’t have been able to edit.
But you figured it out?
But you figured it out?

But you figured it out?" I figured out I really want a new computer.
Is there an option to skip one of the prompts if you're really not feeling it? There's a couple on the 2020 list that I'd rather not do, if that's an option?
We allow for one “Wild Card” for you to use on a prompt you don’t like! But we are pretty flexible and you can often interpret the prompts in a variety of ways. Definitely check out the Weekly Threads for each prompt to get an idea of how other people are tackling the prompts.

Thanks! There's two prompts that I'm struggling with, will need to decide which one I want to use the wildcard on :)

I may be going blind (especially after working on putting my entire 2020 ATY reading list together, LOL), but in the 2020 Weekly Topics Threads I don't see one started for #33, A book about a non-traditional family? I went through the threads twice, but maybe I'm still missing it?
eta: I don't see one for #35 either, A book with a geometric pattern or element on the cover

Not blind! The mods are still working on getting all of the threads up. It takes a bit to research and find all of the resources, but they all should be put up within the next week.

Do I have to read exactly 52 books to complete this challenge or can I find books that fit for multiple prompts?
I'm trying this challenge for the first time in 2020. Thanks!
Hi Julia! The idea is that you read 52 books - one per prompt. You can interpret the challenge however you’d like, however, so it’s really up to you! The official rules state that you read one book per prompt, but some people choose to only complete 26 prompts, or put some other stipulation on their list. You just wouldn’t be counted as “officially” finishing the challenge if you don’t read 52 books.

Edit: Sorry, I see this has been answered, and I assume the answer is yes. I'll be reading more than 52 books anyway because I'll be doing the Popsugar challenge and, if it's not too difficult, the RH challenge as well.
If you want to officially complete the challenge, the answer is no, you shouldn’t double dip. But we allow for people to tackle the challenge in their own way, so it’s up to you on how you approach it.

Edit: Sorry, I see this has been answered, and ..."
@Tanvi Will do both challenges too! I'm so excited! :)

Emily hid the planning sheet. It was announced in this post..

Actually you can still get to it. It's just hidden, not deleted. Go to "View" and then click on "Hidden sheets" and select "2020 Plans."
I've unhidden it for you, Entropia, so go ahead and grab your info off of it. I'll hide it again tomorrow. (But, like dalex said, you can always access it if you need it).

Kara, is this the thread you're talking about? https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
It's visible to me!

I was wondering if it can be any book set in space like a SCf Fi book . or do it have to be one of the books from the list

Hi Elizabeth! The group Listopia and other lists in the weekly threads are just for inspiration so you don’t have to read a book that appears on one of the lists. It’s totally up to you if you consider a book set in space to be related to Maximilian Hell. Personally I think it’s fine as I can see how how a book set in space can be seen as related to an astronomer. Hope that helps.

I just looked at your thread Kara and it showed your name and profile picture, not deleted member.
If it still shows deleted member when you look at the thread then I think you may need to contact Goodreads directly as I don’t think there’s anything the mods can do to fix it. This is the form to contact Goodreads support if you need to: https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...
Hope that helps!

Settings at the top > check 'num ratings box, the rating box, the num pages box, and the date pub box' > click 'save current settings to your read/all shelves'
Then you simply click on the top of the header to sort by that item. So if you want to sort by rating then you click 'avg rating' at the top of the column. If you want to reverse the order then you click it again.
