Thanks for sharing the photos! It's easy in the US to "forget" that the Royals are real people. :)

message 119: by Savannah (last edited Jun 04, 2015 10:56AM) (new)

Savannah | 327 comments Oh, I am definitely in.

I can't decide, though! :-)

The British Queen’s Official Birthday is the selected day on which the birthday of the monarch of the Commonwealth realms (currently Queen Elizabeth II) is officially celebrated in those countries. The date varies as adopted by each Commonwealth country (view spoiler), but is generally around the end of May to the start of June.

As our mod Karen lives in Australia where it is celebrated on the second Monday in June each year, we have designed this challenge for June 2014!

Duration: June 1 –June 30

Option One: Read books which have covers with a Queen, Union Jack, or other Royal theme on the cover or in the title. Examples under spoiler:(view spoiler)

Option Two: Read books which are about members of a Royal family. Remember to check listopia for ideas: Lovely Tales of Modern Royals; Of Kings and Queens; Oh, Royalty...; Best Biographies of English Royalty - and more. Examples under spoiler: (view spoiler)

Option Three: Read books which are based in the UK or a Commonwealth Country (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Papua New Guinea, St Christopher and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tuvalu, Barbados, Grenada, Solomon Islands, St Lucia and The Bahamas). Remember to check listopia for ideas.

Option Four - Spell-It-Out: Select a royal word or name of a royal of your choice, and then spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book’s title, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

Example of a Spell-It-Out under spoiler:(view spoiler)

Levels of Play:
Aristocratic: 1-2 books
Blue-blooded: 3-5 books
Noble: 5-8 books
Imperial: 9-10 books
BONUS: Achieve ROYAL status by reaching Imperial status and reading at least one book as part of a buddy read.
