Week 3: Spot 22
The Newcomer (Thunder Point, #2) by Robyn Carr (Thunder Point Bk2) 30/07 ★★★★
How it fits - Book 2 in a series

Review
Another great book from Robyn Carr. Having withdrawal symptoms after finishing the Virgin River Series I thought I would give the Thunder Point books a try, I am not disappointed. All her books are easy and enjoyable to read, and I got through this one in a day. The book contains lots of different characters who have their own stories to tell, she almost weaves a web which links them throughout the series.

This book in particular, dealt with the difficulties of becoming a teenager, how horrible and cruel kids can be and starting over again. The characters of Cooper and Sarah from the first book also make an appearance as there their story continues. By the end of the book you feel like you know the whole town. I can't wait to get into book 3.

Review:

This book was kind of all over the place. I like the hero but not the heroine so much. She was so back and forth over her feelings that she had be feeling whip-lashed. She treated the H kind of bitchy then got bitchy herself when he would get angry. The storyline of second change romance worked and I really liked how the H owned up to his mistake in the past. What I didn't like was the h not really owning her own feelings in the present. The smexy scenes were yummy, though! I'll read the 3rd just to finish it out.

New Member Tara Jo does NOT have to read this week because it's so short notice. If she wants to, she can but her book is NOT necessary for the teams' advancement on Friday.

Welcome to Team 8, Tara Jo

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments Welcome Tara Jo! I'm Denise. We're on spot 22, currently. We try to get our book picked by Sunday, with a check in on Tuesday, so we know where everyone is as far as posting reviews goes. It's much easier on me if we can get the reviews up early, since I can't always get to a computer easily.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Denise Lauron (dlauron) | 504 comments Thank you for answering that question. We're just waiting on one more for this week's posting. We're in good shape for Friday's roll.

Tara | 134 comments Sounds good Denise! I am usually pretty quick at deciding on what to read and typically get in about 3-5 books a week depending on what I'm reading. This has been a super crazy week at work and I haven't gotten more than 50 pages read since Monday! Eeeek! But once I'm back home this weekend I'll get back on course. I've played this one a few times before so I think I'm good but will def let ya know if I need any clarification.

Review:

This is the second book in this enjoyable series. The series follows Precious, Botswana's only female detective as she goes about solving mysteries. In this book Precious is asked to investigate the disappearance of an American man 10 years previously so that his mother may put the past to rest, she is also asked to investigate the actions of a butcher's wife. This is a very easy read and you gain some insight into Botswanan life as Precious proceeds to solve the mysteries.

Review: This was a cute followup to the first book in the series. I enjoy author Alice Clayton sense of humor and really liked the MC of Natalie. I could relate to a lot of her insecurities and to how she dealt with them. I really liked Oscar, but wanted to see a bit more of him. I haven't looked at the next book, but i have a feeling i know which characters we'll see in the next book and can't wait!

How It Fits: #9 Agatha Raisin
Review: This was a slight diversion from the usual books in the series. Agatha has gone to Wyckhadden to recover from the ordeal of her previous exploits and soon finds herself wrapped up in not one but two murders. Agatha spends much of the time feeling sorry for herself and trying to prove to herself that she isn't ready to be pensioned off. The murders seem to take a back seat in this book and it tends to focus on Agatha's love life with 4 men vying for her affections, but Agatha rationale inevitably ends up with her making the wrong choices. Hopefully the next in the series will see a return to the format of the earlier books.

Review:
I spent most of this book resenting the heroine. It was a secret baby trope which I detest. In my opinion, there is no justification for not telling a man you are having his child unless your life is in danger from said man. What disappointed me even more was that she never admitted that she was wrong. There were times where she felt bad, had moments of regret, but she never felt she was fundamentally wrong to not tell the father about his child. For 12 years. On top of that, her reasons for doing so were almost solely based on her own insecurities. Ack! And then the author went on to have almost everyone around her, including the child's paternal grandmother, give her a pass. Even the father eventually admitted that maybe she was a little bit justified. Oh that made me mad. So we got our HEA but the heroine never admitted that keeping the child from the fatehr was worng, never talked through her insecurities and issues with the hero and never once considered what his fears and concerns might have been at the time of their break-up. Ugh. I've never given Stephanie Bond a 2 star but this one made me mad. I don't think she did her hero any favors in the story and only served to make a whiny self-centered heroine even more so.

Review
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but this book seems to be a repeat and finished exactly the same way as the first book. I like the two main characters Holly and Clayton they have lots of chemistry and could be perfect for each other if they would just talk! Argh! they are both so stubborn I keep shouting at the book because they are infuriating me. I am not sure the book needed to be a trilogy, I think it would have been better as a stand-alone personally.

Review:
I have a book hangover. This book surely puts your emotions through the ringer. I was all over the place getting angry with and then rooting for each on of the MCs at different points. The love triangle seemed impossible to solve. And really it was impossible to solve without pain but it was also entirely possible to solve because these characters all loved each other and no pain was going to be too great to sacrifice for another. This book was quite long and a bit more than 3/4 the way through when it was clear how things were going to end up, I wondered why we needed to keep the story going. But as I was reading through to the end, I realized it was necessary and perfect. There was so much pain due to the triangle throughout much of the book that we really needed to see how the characters were able to live and love through the results. It allowed the reader to be as much at peace with the outcomes as the characters. Each book in this series gets better and better. I can't wait for the next one.

Book: The Devil Wears Kilts (Scandalous Highlanders, #1) by Suzanne Enoch **** 13/08
How it fits - Audiobook

Review
This book was great, I opted for the audiobook version and the narrator was fabulous and had the brogue down to a tea.

Ranulf MacLawry comes to London in search of his Sister who has run off after being told she can't have a season in the Ton. She has gone to stay with an old friend of her late Mothers telling them her Brother allowed her to travel alone and stay with them. The Laird shows up at the house to drag his sister back to Scotland only to come face to face with the beautiful and sassy Lady Charlotte Hanover.

The chemistry between Charlotte and Ranulf is off the scale, both are very vocal and strongwilled which leads to an amusingly funny book
