I haven't done a team challenge before, but I'm super stoked for this.

What!? Awesome! Picture PLEASE!!!! <3 John Green.
I'm trying to upload one but it is not being my friend today. It's a stack of books with a fox curled up on top and the fox is wearing a hat. Subtle reference to my favorite scene from Looking for Alaska.

I agree, Cait! Awesome tattoo. Love it! :-)

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book as well. I first read it when I was just barely 16. I had tried to read it two times and gave up because I couldn't get into it. Then, on the third try, I stuck with it and was so glad I did! I have read it four or five times since.
Have you seen the BBC movie with Colin Firth? It is very close to the book and the only version I will watch. I tried an other version, but two minutes into it I had to change the channel because so many things were wrong!

I haven't read Pride and Prejudice (yet) but I have seen the Colin Firth version. Perfection!!! Well, maybe not perfect, but I definitely prefer it above the other version. I'm the same way about Jane Eyre. BBC is the only place that will do these authors justice.

JUST A HUGE REMINDERWobble is ABSOLUTELY NOT an event you can go into with pre-selected books to read.
A member signed up (and didn't give ID correctly so I can't respond because I can't find them) and asked when they would be able to start making a list of books they will read for the challenge.
If you must plan out every book you read ahead of time, this is NOT the challenge for you. While some of your books may fit in somewhere, it's a lot more unlikely than if you pick when you know what you are doing for the week.
Things WILL change each week. For example, Wheel-a-Thon last 4 weeks. Each week your team WILL receive a new word to spell out. While a pre-planned book might fit, it's just as likely that it won't fit.
We are requiring you to be flexible. While we will NOT push you out of your comfort zone, this just means working together to pick books to read at the time. For example, if your team gets the word WOBBLE (which isn't one of the words, and why it was used for the Read-a-Thon) and you have an O book and no one else does, it'd be up to you to read that book.
Please don't commit if you aren't flexible at all. If you come in and say "I'm going to read these 10 books, no matter what" then you won't be helping out your team at all.
My pre-planned list of books for this challenge is my entire TBR ;) The randomness is my favorite part of these challenges, honestly. I would never know what to read next if I didn't have a task telling me to pick a book meeting XYZ requirements. I have too many that I want to read, it would just be impossible.
((And thank you everyone for your kind words about my book tattoo! It feels very me...it also feels like my arm is about to fall off. But I'm super happy :D))
Cait wrote: "My pre-planned list of books for this challenge is my entire TBR ;) The randomness is my favorite part of these challenges, honestly. I would never know what to read next if I didn't have a task ..."
" I would never know what to read next if I didn't have a task ." it's the same for me!!! :)
(and your tattoo is great! *_*)
I have a question about Wheel-a-thon. Since each person on a team has to supply 1 (minimum) letter for the word, does that mean the word length = # of team members? Will all the teams have the same # of members?I do not envy the mods trying to balance this game so it's fair!!
Ray (user2637) wrote: "I have a question about Wheel-a-thon. Since each person on a team has to supply 1 (minimum) letter for the word, does that mean the word length = # of team members? Will all the teams have the same..."No and no.
Words will be random and range in length. Teams are based on book counts given on the signup form and teams have similar book counts for a month. But that doesn't mean the same number of people. Some teams have less people because the members read more while other teams have more people because they read less.
So, words are completely random, BUT there is the ability to re-read the word once it's been read through completely. So, say there are two words ~ "Word" and "Dictionary". Team 1 reads "Word" 5 times while team 2 reads "Dictionary" 2 times. Same amount of points. If you were unable to re-read a word it wouldn't be fair but the ability to re-read lets any shorter words be read again. You can look at the previous Wheel-a-Thons to see how they went, if you are curious.
Everyone will get more detailed info about all the events before they start. What we've given you now is just a teaser. All questions will be answered before events start. Plus all the Captains are all seasoned captains and have played in most the team challenges so will be able to fill everyone in who has questions.
Cool, cool. Thanks for the explanation. One more question... if Team 1 reads "word" 5 times, the minimum any member on that team has to do is (for example) 1 "W" book, right? The rest of the team can finish the word and then repeat it without the 1-book-a-week member reading other letters? What if the word is 4 letters and the group is 6 people!? It's impossible for everyone to read a letter in the first iteration of the word!
Ray (user2637) wrote: "Cool, cool. Thanks for the explanation. One more question... if Team 1 reads "word" 5 times, the minimum any member on that team has to do is (for example) 1 "W" book, right? The rest of the team c..."Yes.
That's okay, they'll read letters on second iteration. This is not ATW, so rules are a little different
Ray (user2637) wrote: "Cool, cool. Thanks for the explanation. One more question... if Team 1 reads "word" 5 times, the minimum any member on that team has to do is (for example) 1 "W" book, right? The rest of the team c..."Yeah there will be times where the word is shorter than number of people. As long as they read at least the one book during that week, then it's fine. :)

What? No photo? Or is it private? I don't have any ink, but if i did, I'd want to rock it!! :)
That sounds great, Cait!"
Duh! So sorry, Cait. I saw it and it's beautiful! You're probably going to have to explain it more than I few times, though...
Lauri wrote: "Duh! So sorry, Cait. I saw it and it's beautiful! I'm in another challenge with another group that seems similar to WOBBLE. Because I don't buy books or use an reader, I get all my books from the public library near my home. There's no limit on the amount of books you can check out, thankfully. So right now I have 108 books borrowed! In almost every circumstance, whether it was for a spell-out, genre, picture on cover -- I'd have it covered by browsing thru my book shopping bags. I think I only had to dash down to the library twice to search for something quickly. I plan to employ the same strategy here. I just tell the librarians I'm an incurable insomniac with ADD...
Wow! No check out limit! That's amazing and super helpful for challenges, I'm sure. Ours is 50 which I've never hit before but I think I might during Wobble haha
I haven't been to the library in ages since I work at Barnes & Noble now but I may have to do it again for this challenge!
I'm not sure if this has been asked...will we have enough tome to plan prior to the start? I will be going on vacation the week everything starts. I just want to be prepared with the physical books that I will need to read.
Ashlee wrote: "I'm not sure if this has been asked...will we have enough tome to plan prior to the start? I will be going on vacation the week everything starts. Karsyn made a long comment about how you'll need to be flexible and planning ahead on which exact books you read won't be possible since it changes/will be announced as it comes. She words it better than I do ;)

That and Highclere (Downton Abbey).
Ashlee wrote: "I'm not sure if this has been asked...will we have enough tome to plan prior to the start? I will be going on vacation the week everything starts. I just want to be prepared with the physical books..."Unfortunately no. The first week is Wheel, and you'll get the first word the first day. When do you leave/get back?
If it's after the 17th then you'll have to talk to your team about which letter you will cover while you are gone. But you won't be able to plan anything other than that if you are leaving prior to the 17th.

This is getting a little complicated. I'm having a hard time with responding to the posts for the read-a-thon. I mean, I'm keeping up with it, but I still feel like I'm behind. I realize that all I really have to do for this challenge is communicate with my team and read; I guess I'm getting overwhelmed for no reason. If any of that made sense to anyone, yay for me lol I'm just not sure if I should do this or not.
Diane, I wouldn't base how you feel about wobble on the read a thon. I find read a thons overwhelming in general so I tend to sit them out but I've never had that problem with a team challenge. Totally different set up and you have friends there holding your hand :)
Diane, I find read-a-thons overwhelming, too. I usually only follow a thread or two... which is what group challenges are like, so I wouldn't worry too much. :)
Beth (Ducky) wrote: "I haven't been to the library in ages since I work at Barnes & Noble now but I may have to do it again for this challenge!"Would you believe that all the bookstores on my island (Oahu) have been closed except for 1 B&N about 15 miles away? I'm lucky to get there once or twice a year! I really miss having a bookstore in our mall (only 2 blocks from my house). I used to spend hours in there! Then we had Bookoffs for awhile. All gone now :(
I really rely on the library.
Lauri - It's sad when you even lose the Bookoffs! Thank goodness for the library, one bookstore is not enough for a whole island. :(

Perhaps you'd be more comfortable on a team that doesn't want to be chatty? Otherwise, depending on the team, things could move very fast. In the middle of chatter about what needs to be done a chatty team will also be chatting about everything under the sun. Things can/do get buried that way, so you definitely have to stay on top of things so you know what you are needing to be reading.
I am excited for Wobble! This will be my first team challenge of this length! I am in the boat as all those that mentioned being indecisive about what to read next. My current list of books on my physical shelves (and audiobooks) here at home that are unread are 861 books (oh the embarrassment). If I can't find books in there to fit all the challeges there is something SERIOIUSLY WRONG! lol I am soo ready to cut down that number!

I love to hit garage sales, used book stores, and Goodwills for used books, so I've got so many on my shelves at home I haven't read yet. Plus, I work at a library.....so, finding a book to read is never a problem.

I almost never pay full price for books so when I find ones at a bargain price I can't help but pick them up. I've been getting better at it lately since I no longer have bookshelf space, to limit my buying.
Diane Woods wrote: "This is getting a little complicated. I'm having a hard time with responding to the posts for the read-a-thon. I mean, I'm keeping up with it, but I still feel like I'm behind. I realize that all I..."Diane, keep in mind that the Read-a-Thon is a lot more fast paced than the challenge will be. There are people who are pushing to read as much as they can in a short amount of time and new threads are being posted DAILY.
WOBBLE will be a bit crazy, but there will only be new tasks that everyone has to pay attention to once per week. There may be additional things thrown in during the middle of the weeks, but they're generally optional. As long as you can read one book per week and check in, you should be fine!
Karsyn made a good point about chatty teams being more overwhelming, if you do end up with a chatty team and feel like things are moving fast, let your captain know. In the last round, I had a specific image that I & my co-captains used for important announcement posts, so that anyone logging on to 50+ posts could easily scroll through and see what the important things were without feeling like they had to catch up on everything. I'm sure most captains would be willing to do something similar to help you out! :)
I am hoping that being on a "chatty" team will help me with being motivated and help me bond more with my team (with the thought that I will have a bigger incentive to do my best & not let my team down if I get to know who I am playing with). Have others found this to be true from previous team challenges?

Aw, thanks for the love! Hope your -itis isn't too bad. *hugs* It is easier to knit when reading an ebook. :) I'm knitting an eggplant from Amigurumi Knits right now! I have to stick to simple little things now--no more socks for me.
