Don't feel bad, Laila Jane. I think I'm lagging behind, too. If only I could stay home all day and read... Sigh*

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Good luck studying, Drishti!

No rush to escape the cold from me! I could do with a little cold to break up the summer here ;)

I'm only managing to get things read because I'm staying home all day at the moment lol, I want to be a few books ahead of my reading goal before uni kicks off again! ;)

message 206: by Kazen (new)

Kazen So I'm reading The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada and at 72% the author stops the book and writes a letter to the "Gentle Reader". In sum - you have all the clues to the case, and I even gave you a big hint at the end there! Can you figure it out?

I have no idea! I'm stumped! So excited to see how this unravels...

And out of all the places in the entire country the murderer could have lived, they were found in my neighborhood in Kyoto! Freaky!

I keep forgetting the seasons are reversed down there! We have cousins in Queensland. Everything they come to Hawaii, they stock up on peanut butter, cereal , electronics and guitars.... I've always wanted to visit, but I hear you can't get Captain Crunch there.

totally creepy! How did you sleep? I have certain types of books I won't read just before bedtime because they give me weird dreams. No murder, vampires or crime... Just sayin'.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I finished my mystery!
The Ghost and Mrs. McClure (Haunted Bookshop Mystery, #1) by Alice Kimberly
It was pretty cute. I love finding a new series. I entered it onto the spreadsheet, but my entry looks different. Karen, could you please check for me? Let me know if I did something wrong...
Thanks so much!

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Kazen, that's so creepy! Lol

Lauri, Queensland is where I live too :) no Captain Crunch here though, no, lol. I went to America when I was 14 and was so overwhelmed by the cereal, lol! I remember I loved this one called Cookie Crunch or something, it was just mini choc chip cookies and I was blown away by the strangeness of it! Haha.

woohoo! Just one more and we move to Anchorage. Luckily we packed our warm clothes ;)

What you did was fine Lauri, I just added a hyperlink to the book. To do that, when you click on the cell, then go crtl-k and the hyperlink box comes up and you can insert the link to the book :)

Oh no Kazen! That's always the worst when you really want to finish a book like that, but it is night time so it stops you from being able to sleep properly :o

So today (Friday) I have both kids and the baby had a big sleep this morning. which is quite unusual, but I think because I'd been dragging him all around the place this week he probably had some sleep to catch up! haha. So that meant it was about 11.30am before we were ready to go anywhere and my toddler needs his day nap at 1pm.
So I thought, oh lets go and have a lovely walk to the fish&chip shop and buy some lunch to bring back home.... Great idea, but it was like 34c out there and so by the time we got home I was DRIPPING in sweat (as I had the baby in a carrier on me) and we were all red faced and exhausted!
Now I think I need to go and have a diet coke to get some energy back :o

message 215: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Oh no Karen! Not fun. Time to get out an ice pack and sit in front of the fan!

Don't know why the baby was exhausted with you doing all the hard work though! ;) lol

Haha
I've never really gone for sweet cereals. I've always been a weet-bix kid ;)
Over the last ten years it has become much easier to buy imported American and UK food in certain shops here to support the expats and tourists ;) makes for a pretty expensive breakfast though!

Nice! I think that means we are ready to head to Anchorage :)
Are we doing the task for stop 3 and reading books by American authors or set in USA? We seem to have quite a few books already read that we can put towards this. If we do
the task it means *not* doing the detour of books published in December.

Thoughts?

message 228: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I'm good with whatever is best for people :)

message 229: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I'm good with either.

message 230: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I can work with either as well. But if we already have some in reserve, we might as well use them!

We still have to wait 1 week to move to the next location? If so we have more time to find/read for the upcoming tasks!

message 231: by Delitealex (new)

message 233: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments It doesn't matter to me either way. I have both ready to roll.
So... What are we spelling?
LOL

message 234: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I finished my mystery last night but didn't have time to add it to the spreadsheet so I'll go do that now :)

message 235: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I find that I lack self-direction/initiative. I'm pretty sure you've noticed it already. Someone please tell me what to read next! I need professional help! ;)

message 236: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments I think we should do the task by reading books by American authors and set in the US. Since we're only allowed 5 detours, doing the US task is the easiest one to do especially cuz we've already got multiple books in reserve.

Looks like we have a quorum and are going with a task for stop 3.
That means read books set in the USA or by authors born in the USA
We already have books that count from Cathy M, Laila, Kazen, Karen, Drishti, Jess so we have already covered the requirement of 6 team members reading for the task!
That means all you need to do this week is read a book - any book! for us to get maximum points

Stop 4 is Edmonton, Canada with that awful tarot card detour. So I vote we go for a spell-it-out of CANADA. So if you are able to read more than one book this week, you may want to keep that in mind for any extra books

Delitealex | 3990 comments Finished 2/7 Guard Duty (Texas K-9 Unit, #3) by Sharon Dunn by Sharon Dunn fits for Canada Spellout

And finished 2/12 White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout by Jennifer L. Armentrout set in Washington DC ( US)

Could someone add these to the spreadsheet please :)

Thank you! Now I can sleep peacefully. Ha! Who am I kidding? I'm watching The Walking Dead marathon leading up to the return of the series on Sunday nite -- the perfect Valentine's Day gift. Any other fans out there?

It sounds fabulous, Karen! I really want to read all her books now. I just picked up a random book that was on the Valentine display at the library called Granny Is My Wingman by Kayli Stollak
I just couldn't resist.

Cute Lauri!!

message 246: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Lauri, I'm the same with struggling to decide what to read next! That's why I like challenges - otherwise I change my mind 20 times before I open the first page of something!

I added Attachments to my to read list Karen, it's been growing phenomenally lately though! Lol, for some reason I never bothered to add many books I wanted to read but didn't actually own, but this week I've been going on a goodreads to-read spree!

I will keep the letters CAND in mind for the next book I pick ;) Actually, I'm working on 3 now that have authors that fit that

message 247: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments My main problem is that I am a serial 'book starter.' I have the best of intentions, but then I flit from book to book with whatever takes my fancy at that particular moment in time. I am a sucker for the Stephanie Plum series, anything vampire or a cozy mystery. I must have over 40 books in various stages of completion right now! Maybe there's a 12-step program somewhere for me?
At least this is a 3-day weekend for me. President's Day holiday on Mon. I hope to finish at least 3 books... One of which should count for this challenge. Have fun, everybody. Good night!

Hope the rest of you ladies are making up for all the fun we'll be missing

message 250: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments It's the weekend? Lol, I'm so out of it when uni's not on! I spent my Saturday at home reading and pampering my skin with a face mask. Tomorrow I'm going to my mum's to pack up my books so I can finally get my bookcases moved into my place :)

Lauri, I just looked at your page and 43 books on your currently reading shelf! Wow! Are you still reading bits of them all or are some of those ones you've given up on?
