message 152: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Nothing for me this weekend! I've had a lazy Saturday today and have managed to accomplish absolutely nothing, lol :/
It's been raining on and off so I'm hoping to do some reading to the sound of rain later :)

What about you, Delitealex?

message 153: by Drishti (new)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 1047 comments My weekend is going to be like the last one. Studying for exams, writing some reviews and finding time to read amid everything. The only change is that I'm looking forward to attending a family party tonight.

message 154: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I'm nursing a thankfully light migraine this weekend - it only pounds when I change position, so sitting at my desk and reading has been perfect. :) I even finished a book and put it on the spreadsheet! Deadly Sexy by Beverly Jenkins

Delitealex | 3990 comments Nothing much going on for me this weekend. I'm hoping for better weather it's been raining on and off here too for the last couple of days. I might go to a bookstore sometime. I've been wanting to pick up some older sci fi annd fantasy books.

Today I finished one of my mosaic projects and just went to the shop and park with the kids.
I also finished
Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #2) by Kevin Hearne
which has a werewolf if we end up doing that detour :)
Now on to try and finish my mystery book!

Tomorrow I am going to see West Side Story at the theatre while my M-I-L kindly looks after the kids.
Oh, and I made lamb shanks with polenta for dinner tonight which was delicious!

message 159: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments It's still Friday nite here. Watched 'The Hangover Part III' & The new season of 'Sleepy Hollow' premiere. Tomorrow I should finish my mystery... So boring, I know. Also trying to put a dent in some BOM books and, course tackle the never ending laundry pile. Monday is library day. Yaaayyy!

Love West Side Story -- and lamb, for that matter!

Yea finished projects, good food and reading! I'm curious, would Hounded count for the werewolf goal as well?

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 1047 comments Lauri, "The Hangover Part 3" is one of my favorite movies. Actually, all of "The Hangover" movies are my favorites. I just can't get enough of Alan. lol. =D

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 1238 comments I work every other weekend, and this is my weekend off. We're having lunch for my aunt's birthday today, and tomorrow a friend is throwing a housewarming/superbowl party. Other than that, I'm planning to read, read, read. Hopefully one of the books I can get to is a mystery.

which is tagged as Mystery.

I'm not sure how I felt about it in the end. I'm still thinking it all over. My review is here if anyone is interested

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments That talk about libraries inspired me to walk down and join my local one again this morning :)

This branch is much bigger than the one I used to live near, so I got overwhelmed and only ended up walking out with one book for now, lol!

Nice one Jess!
I'm always telling friends to join the library. I think people don't realise how many ebooks and audiobooks are available for download from the library so you never even need to go into a branch. :)

So proud of you! My library is pretty huge, actually. Nothing like the one in Downtown Honolulu, though. That one has multiple stories and looks like a Greek Revival mansion. I only get there about once a year because parking is a problem. When I go, I take a rolling cart with me :)
Very lazy weekend. I finished a silly book for a different challenge
Ghouls Just Haunt to Have Fun (Ghost Hunter Mystery, #3) by Victoria Laurie
I love Victoria Laurie!
Also made a dent in my mystery, Red Rising & Queen of the Tearling. So it was fairly productive. Also went with my son to get his taxes done -- next stop, getting my own taxes done...

message 171: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Karen: Nice review! It's too bad the twists and turns didn't live up to the synopsis. :/

Jess: Yeeea libraries! :D

Lauri: That downtown Honolulu library sounds wonderful. I visited the city a few years ago to go to a friend's wedding and loved every minute, so the thought of adding a library like that is icing on the cake.

In book stuff: I found a mystery, yea! The Tokyo Zodiac Murders (Pushkin Vertigo) by Soji Shimada I have a long commute on Wednesday so I'm hoping to make quite a dent in it.

And in other news: I'm headed to the movies tonight to see The Martian. It only came to Japan this last weekend, can you believe it? But that gave my husband and I time to read the book first, so I can't complain too much. ;)

Yay! Well done Kazen.
Oh and Ioved the movie, even though it doesn't have the humour of the book it is still really worthwhile watching :)

I finished
Sister by Rosamund Lupton
for one of my bookclubs which was also a mystery! A bit ho hum though. review

Kazen, wow, that seems really slow for The Martian! I hope you enjoy the movie :) I haven't yet seen it because I still need to read it first!

Lovely mosaics, Karen! I love the frog pot :)

Lauri, a multiple level library sounds amazing!!

Jess - I loved Gone Girl. I couldn't put that one down until I was all done with it.

Just finished this a few minutes ago and have to think about it too. I can't say I liked the book, and I'm confused that it was tagged as a mystery and thriller when it felt more like a drama.

I'll update my books on the spreadsheet along with the others I read this past week. It ended up being more than what I originally planned.

Did you like The Martian (the movie)? That was one of my fave books last year & I absolutely LOVED Matt Damon in it!

message 180: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Cathy - My husband and I both liked it! Matt Damon did a great job and Watney felt like a more well-rounded human than he did in the book. We were both sad that a bunch of the science was left out because the whys got left out too - why/how the HAB airlock incident happened, why he needed to cut a hole in the rover, etc. But that's just me nitpicking, the time in the theater flew by!

Yay! I felt the same - there were some things left out of the movie but that was understandable so that it would appeal to a wider audience. The techy parts actually turned me off the book the first couple times I tried to read it. But on like my 3rd attempt, I powered through it and actually found it so interesting!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments You guys are so speedy! I got sidetracked by the library again today :) and picked up a new batch of books to help with this and other challenges. A whole slew of cozy mysteries, too. I'm about 100 pages into my mystery right now. I am loving Queen of the Tearling, but not Red Rising. It's so tempting to go racing off in a lot of other directions. I must surely be the poster child for adult ADD...
Having lots of fun, though!

Thanks ladies. So cool that everyone liked different mosaics. That is what I love about art ; eye of the beholder and all that.
I think my favourites are the same as Cathy ; the clock and mirror. Well both mirrors actually. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it Kazen!

@Lauri - I have been tempted to try Queen of the Tearling, but other books have always gotten in the way!

So I think I've covered Vacation/Tropical, Books/Bookstores, Scotland & Animals/ Cats. I have some others ordered and more just lying around...
Have I mentioned my OCD?

I haven't read any of those I've been wanting to read Rita Me Browns other books like Rubyfruit jungle and Runnymeade series.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments What can I say? I like cats! I'm in the middle of Big Kitty by Claire Donally. I liked the title and the cover with a giant grey striped kitty on it. His name is Shadow and he follows a lady home. I was hooked from the start!
I wish I could just stay home and read all day. This work thing just gets in the way.

Beautiful work, Karen. Love it all, especially the mirrors! Do you have to cut each individual piece by hand? Whenever do you find time to read anything?

message 189: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16617 comments Mod
Thanks. Yes, all cut by hand! I started the "Projects in Progress"
page today to show the table top I'm doing and that shows you how the sheet of glass starts out and then I slowly cut it down.
Oh, and I listen to audiobooks while I do it :)
