I'm halfway done through Phantom and I don't know if its my mood, but not that captivated by it (although I liked it so far) and started reading other books.
The House of Death is my first book by Satyajit Ray, who is an Oscar-winning filmmaker. Just read the prologue so far. Hope it lives up to its name.
I hope I'm in better reading mood next week.

Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, is after bail-skipping college student Gobbles while also helping security expert Ranger protect a businessman and his wife. The story has the usual funny hijinks of most books in the series. 3.5 stars.

Thanks, I just pre-ordered, looks interesting.
Finished with I'm Thinking of Ending Things, by Iain Reid. It's sort of a crime novel, but more psychological in nature. Continuing Black Wings Has My Angel, excellent '50s noir.

In this 38th book in the series Lt. Eve Dallas investigates when the bodies of 12 teenage girls are discovered in a building being renovated by her billionaire husband Roarke. I'm in the minority but I didn't especially like this book. 2.5 stars for me.

Great review! I completely agree with what you've written, but as a die-hard JD Robb fan myself would really recommend starting the series from the beginning - the characterisation is the best part of the series for me. Happy reading!

Thank you Katheryn. I agree with you it's best to read the series in order to see the characters develop.
Finished Black Wings Has My Angel; maybe I'll start The Monster's Daughter -- should be a good one for a plane ride.

Where are you flying to?

We recently lost one of our very best friends, so we're off Friday to his memorial service in Houston., back home Sunday. Very sad, really; he was still in his 40s.

Best wishes, Nancy. That's very sad.

Thank you. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. Now, no more about sad things -- back to books!!

I am waiting for a book at my local library to become available and while waiting decided to reread this. On occasion I enjoying going back and reading Nero Wolfe books. I think I have read most, if not all, over the years.

I think you will enjoy The Prague Cemetery. It is Eco exercising his imagination in nineteenth century Europe. Quite interesting.

Enjoy! I like these books too.

I love that series! I have a special bookshelf called 'three dead yanks' just for Chandler and a couple other authors I'd like to read my way through.

Tom,
Interesting selection of favorite books at your bio site. Didn't see many hard-boiled private eyes on your list, though.

Why, suh, how can you say that? I happen to be a card-carrying member of the GR Pulp Fiction group. That said, I do believe that variety is the spice of life and, based on your list, it appears that you share that sentiment.

Me too ... now. Thanks.
Finished My Bones and My Flute: A Ghost Story in the Old-Fashioned Manner; started The Monster's Daughter, a crime novel from South Africa.
By the way, I have an extra copy of The Monster's Daughter to give to anyone in the US who wants it. Someone take it please - it needs a home.

Nancy, I would love that copy. I read the description when you started reading it and it sounds fascinating.

After a bad accident Sara, who's lost all her memories, discovers that she's part of an abusive cult called The Light. Meanwhile, an investigative journalist in Detroit is looking into drug movement across the Canadian border. Eventually the stories converge. Many people loved this book but it's only 3 stars for me.

On the edge of finishing The Monster's Daughter. The actual premise is kind of strange, but on the whole, it's very good and I'd say unique. The book focuses a lot on conditions during Apartheid in South Africa.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Nancy. Looking forward to reading your eventual review.

Finished. Kudos to the author -- this book was very cleverly constructed. While you're keeping up with the ongoing mystery, you are taken through the history of apartheid in South Africa beginning in 1901. The blurb for once is actually spot on -- "A killer is on the loose, in a country that can't escape its past." Very well done.
