message 167: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Carol, welcome to the group and the challenge! I'll add you to our participants list.

Next, you can either come up with a list of books you want to read ahead of time, like some members have above. If you're not sure what you want to read for each year, you can fill in as you go.

Every so often (how often is up to you) check in here and let us know where you're at with your challenge so I can update your progress.

Does that answer your question?

Your goal is to read a book published every year since you were born, or you can choose a year something special happened (e.g, you..."

so it doesnt have to be the first year the book was published, just the year of the particular ISBN that you have?

Cassandra | 5832 comments Cassie, that's up to you. I'm going with the first published date, but you could choose to do it another way.

Welcome to the challenge, folks!

Cassandra | 5832 comments Goodreads is pretty handy because it will usually have the publication year of the edition followed by "(first published 1985)." So I go off of that date. But if you can't track down a first publishing date, feel free to use the one from the edition you have!

Fr. Andrew (nitesead) I was born in 1970, which is too daunting for me to use for this, so I'm going to be a little less crazy (but still possibly crazy) and go with 1981, which was significant for me in some huge ways, the biggest of which was probably the death of one of my best friends at the time. I'm following my heart on this one...I was tempted to find something more recent!

1981 -
1982 -
1983 - The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett (2/27/16)
1984 -
1985 - The Iron Flute: 100 Zen Koans by Nyogen Senzaki (3/27/16)
1986 -
1987 -
1988 -
1989 - The Expendables: Stories (2/28/16)
1990 -
1991 -
1992 - Like Water for Chocolate: A Novel in Monthly Installments, with Recipes, Romances, and Home Remedies by Laura Esquivel (2/12/16)
1993 - Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Wartime Sarajevo by Zlata Filipović (3/14/16)
1994 -
1995 -
1996 -
1997 -
1998 - Cages by Dave McKean (3/28/16) Note: Goodreads erroneously states that this was released in 1991, but this is the collected edition, which was not released as one full volume until 1998, so I'm going with that.
1999 - The Snake Charmer: A Novel (1/18/16)
2000 - Under the Skin (2/8/16)
2001 - Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto (2/4/16)
2002 -
2003 - The Funny Thing Is... (3/5/16)
2004 - The Burn Journals (1/24/16)
2005 - The Planets by Dava Sobel (2/29/16)
2006 - The Tent (1/12/16) and Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity (1/29/16)
2007 -
2008 - A Brief History of Anxiety...Yours and Mine (2/7/16)
2009 - Echo: Desert Run (1/19/16)
2010 - Echo: Collider (1/27/16)
2011 - Hark! A Vagrant (1/2/16) and The Sense of an Ending (1/5/16)
2012 - I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai (currently reading)
2013 - Ralph Pincus, Occultist Extraordinaire (2/11/16)
2014 - Doomware (1/27/16)
2015 - Step Aside, Pops: A Hark! A Vagrant Collection (2/11/16)
