I would like to purchase Black Beauty, for which Lahni has picked The Taming of the Shrew for me. The book qualifies as it has 291 pages. I shall read it before December 7th.

My first three rolls were all properties, and Marina and Karen have already staked out the first two. So I'm going to go for purchasing Animal Farm . I'm going to read Born in Death, which is one of the ones Dee chose for me for that property. It has 338 pages, and is a quick read, a book I own already, which makes it a perfect choice. Deadline 12/8.

Blood Work: A Tale of Medicine and Murder in the Scientific Revolution. This was a really interesting book about the first blood transfusion experiments. It is Paris, December 1667 and one of the cities most infamous madmen has been given a third transfusion of calf's blood. Within days he is dead, was he killed by the transfusion or was he murdered? If it was murder, who did it and why? The story takes us from London during the Black Death and the Great Fire of London to the Paris of Louis XIV.
I apologise if this review is in the wrong place but when I clicked on Property Reviews this is where I ended up.

My property thread is called:- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland OR Karenland.
Oh, Karen, you're setting the bar pretty high for the rest of us. Not only do we have to read the book in 7 days, but come up with a clever title for the property thread as well?
I'll need help if I'm able to buy Animal Farm!

The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare
This was not my favorite Shakespeare, but it was a solid 3 stars anyway. I have to admit I prefer his tragedies over his comedies, and this one is certainly one of his best comedies: witty, funny and incredibly light. It certainly is very un-feminist, but one cannot very well expect feminism of Shakespeare, as he wrote 500 years ago. So the play plainly states that women must obey their husbands (and fathers, before being married), of whom they are absolute property. Well no, this is not funny, but I swear the play was! I would love to see it on stage.
Going to set up my thread for my owned property, although I cannot find a witty title for it as Karen has ;-)
EDIT: here's my little castle: Marina's Black Beauty

I've finished reading Born in Death. I always love these Eve Dallas stories. In fact, I ration myself, because I don't know what I'll do when I finally run out. And sometimes what I enjoy is simply the characters -- Dallas & her husband Roarke, of course, but also Mavis, Peabody, Somerset, Mira, -- there are so many who make an appearance in every book, and they're all unique and interesting. They're like my own friends whom I enjoy seeing again in each book.
But this time, the plot was a good one, too. For a long time, I just couldn't see where it was going. And even though I was convinced (view spoiler) , I still couldn't figure out the who and how of it before Dallas did.
Another fun thing in this book was how Dallas (and Roarke) reacted to (view spoiler) . It was such an overreaction it was truly funny.

Congrats, Susan! I've updated the board with a link to your spot :)
It's funny, I've only read 1 or 2 of Eve Dallas (out of order too, I believe). Just something I randomly picked out at the library and whilst, I always feels that it's a fascinating premise and I quite like this pairing, I've never made the effort (maybe not curious enough) to start reading series from #1

I finished Murder at the Vicarage the first Miss Marple mystery by Agatha Christie. I have loved Agatha Christie since I was in high school and read most of them back then. I recently read the last Miss Marple and have decided to read all the Agatha Christie books again.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It is much lighter than most of the mysteries that I tend to read these days. I love the characters that Christie comes up with. My favorite in this book was the "vapid" Lettice. I read somewhere that in Agatha Christie books the guilty one is always the least likely person. Not sure if that is true, but it was certainly true in this case. It was fun to reacquaint myself with how Miss Marple got her start, too.

I will note it. I was wondering when you were going to purchase a property. :)

I landed on Don Quixote today (12/10/15). I would like to buy it. I will be reading The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again (317 pages). Due to be completed 12/17.

This was not an easy book to read. The characters in this book are rude, nasty just unlikable. At one point I was getting frustrated. I think that`s what the author wanted to do, see how a small town with just one death can transform into a war between parents and their children, students against students and spouses. A the end, which is not an happy ending you realize that this story can happen anywhwere. 4 stars

Can you set up a thread for book requests when people land on that square so I can link in above, and Tien can link it to the board.
Thanks

Are you trying to buy a property? If so, which one, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry or Lord of the Flies? Please be more specific...i.e. "I landed on X property and would like to buy it. I will be reading X book" and then the date you need to finish the book by. A good example is Marina's request in post #4.
Also - I you are trying to purchase BOTH properties it states in the rules that you need to make TWO separate request posts here for tracking purposes.
Thanks
I will be out for the rest of the evening, but will update based on your reply in the morning.

Review
Like her previous book Still Alice, Lisa Genova takes us once again into a family devestated by a medical diagnosis. Joe O'Brien, a Boston cop, married and father of 4, is diagnosed with the incurable Huntington's disease. To add to the devestation, each of his 4 kids (all in the 200;s and 30's) have a 50% chance of developing it later in life. emotional is one way to describe how i felt reading. It also made me ask myself - what would i do - have the genetic test and know for sure or not and try to live like thrre isn't a cloud of doom maybe hanging over my head...even now i don't know. 4 stars for Inside the O'Briens

Sorry I think this got cut off originally. I will repost both in more detail per rules. Sorry again

Finished Dec 16. Review:
Arabian Nights is a collection of stories sutible for all ages (at least this version, not sure about the original). This version is much shorter than the 1000 pg original, coming in close to 300. The is adveture, sailing, pirates, shipwrecks, treasures, princesses, princes, sultans, travel, enchantments, genii, fairy, cyclops, cunning, bravery and romance. In essence a great fairytale book. This version sadly has many typos and mistranslations. Annoying but I would try to tackle the original or a higher quality translation. Hence 4 stars.

No worries, thanks for fixing them, Julie. It did look like something weird happened with the post. Goodreads can be very frustrating sometimes. Both Properties are frozen for you now.
