Carla (tekvet) | 2 comments I'm Carla from Columbia MO. Last year I did the 2018 Read Harder Challenge and bits and pieces of the prior years' lists. This year I'm attempting the Read Harder, Read Women, AND 52 Books challenges. I may be a bit mad....

Becky Clark | 1 comments Hi all I'm Becky from the UK, I'm new to reading challenges, but as one of my goals for this year was to use my downtime more effectively and to make time for my reading, I thought that this was a great way to be accountable. I like the flexibility of this challenge, especially as, like other people have suggested in their comments, I too am an erratic reader and have a number of books on the go. Looking forward to starting this and will be adding books to my shelf shortly.

Chrystal (chrystalm) Hi all! My name is Chrystal. I blog over at Snowdrop Dreams. I'm just trying to get back into blogging again after another hiatus due to life changes (moving, back to work with a toddler, etc).

I've still been reading a lot, but not writing reviews as much. I'm extremely excited for this group and challenge as it's just what I needed instead of doing too many challenges and failing at most. I'm going to concentrate on just this one!

I am on a very big thriller/mystery/suspense kick lately, but I enjoy most genres and will give any book a try.

Here's to a new year, a new challenge and hopefully some new friends!

Stefanie (absinthereader) | 11 comments Hello. My name is Stefanie. I found booktube about 1½ year ago and it got me back to Reading. Found this challenge on a blog late 2017 were she updated the last books she read for all challenges. (Haven't found her blog since however. :-()

Completed all prompts for 2018 with few hours to spare last year (Cinder) and decided to make it official this year.

I am not the most Active member of any Group, but will try my best. Readathons are my friends and for January I'm participating in the Tome Infinity and Beyond round 2. Am a Slytherin at heart so I like to bend and twist rules as much as I can.;-)

message 656: by Kristin (new)

Kristin | 3 comments Hey, I'm Kristin, and I'm joining this group and the 2019 weekly challenge this year. I have been reading a lot for a while now, but want more purpose to the reading. Last year, I tried my first reading challenge (the BookRiot Read Harder Challenge) and got 67% complete. I like the structure of this one (a book a week), so am going to focus on this challenge this year while also trying to complete others through double-dipping. I'm also in a local book club so plan to read way too many books this year (is there such a thing?).

Favorite genres: young adult, fantasy, mystery/thriller, romance, literature, etc. Better to say least favorite: horror. :P Also not a huge fan of humor, non-fiction, and historical novels, though I have read some of each.

One goal I have for this year beyond all the reading is to figure out how to write a good book review. I need some kind of formulaic way to approach it (for the scientist in me) that doesn't focus on summarizing the book. I created my own rating system, but it still doesn't distinguish the books enough. I am hoping the book discussions will be a good place for me to figure out how to talk about the books I've read!

message 657: by viemag (new)

viemag | 180 comments Hi My name is Goodreads name is VieMag...I informally did this last year by listing books I read that fit the week's topic. I didn't read all 52 prompts but was pretty close. I read 79 books in 2018 but wanted to read 81. The year ended too quickly. I am excited to try this, but it seems a little confusing. Hope I catch on quickly.

message 660: by Taryn Elizabeth (new)

Taryn Elizabeth (telizabethxo) | 15 comments Hi,
My Name is Taryn. I have always been a big reader. I learned to sign my name so I could get my first library card at 3. I wanted to be able to check out double the books. I've remained a loyal library member my whole life and even volunteered there as a teen/YA.

I am very set in my ways as a reader. While I read a lot I read a lot of the same type of books. Most of that is YA, thriller, crime, mystery ( if it's about a missing person I probably have it on my TBR list) and I also like adult fiction rom com or comedic.

Since I use reading as an escape I stay away from heavy topics but I feel last year I branched out a bit. I joined a reading group on facebook and just tried to read more of what everyone is talking about. 2018 was a strong year for me and i enjoyed most of the stories I read. To be fair though I tend not to finish if a book doesn't catch me. Too many choice to waste time on something I'm not enjoying.

I can't say that I will be able to read every topic every week but I will do my best. When I'm not reading I'm binging everything on TV. My TV obsession is as big as my reading one. As mentioned I love stories in all formats. I also have gone back to school and work full time. That's where I'll admit that a lot of the books I get through Is thanks to audio books. I can listen at work and in the car on my 30 minute commute each way. So I will likely be about 80% audio book and 20% actual book. I hope that's acceptable.

I'm working on my list to post in the thread but I will probably change my mind half way through on my choices. I like to read new books so something might be published I haven't planned for and i'll fit it in. i also will likely read out of order of the prompts but I'll try not to/ The only reason for this is because I get everything from the library and so i am reliant sometimes on when the holds come through.

Anyways this has gotten long and rambely. Really looking forward to trying this and I'm sorry if I fail. Promise to do my best.

Taryn, it's totally fine to read out of order. I also depend on the library so just read whatever I want at the time.

Feel free to share your reading Facebook group! We're usually all looking for new things to check out :)

message 662: by Adam (new)

Adam (adamsgoodreads) | 2 comments Hello, good people. I'm Adam. I figured I'd introduce myself since I'm planning on going along with this challenge. I set an arbitrary goal of 50 books this year but upped it to 52 after seeing this group pop up this morning.

Like others, I plan on reading partially out of order but very much enjoy the structure of the checklist and will try to stick with it as it might make me more willing to read certain books at a time where I might not want to read them, or anything, at all. Purely by coincidence my first read of the year lined up with the first topic, which was a nice bonus.

Hopefully doing a challenge like this will help me stick to my reading goal for the year. Hope you all have a good year!

message 663: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments Hi everyone. Errlee from Ontario, Canada. This is my first year doing this one and found out about it from a bunch of people also doing Pop Sugar, which I am also doing (for my third year). I'm not sure how I hadn't heard of this one before now? Also doing a few other challenges so we will see how it all works out in the end, but I'm excited about trying to do these in relative order- which hopefully will avoid the having to read 10 books at the end of the year that I am not really sure I want to read and resorting to kid's books and comics :)

That being said, I too am a library user so that will make it more challenging. My plan is to try to at least get all the reads done by the end of each month rather than weekly.

message 664: by Nicola (new)

Nicola Traynor | 4 comments Hi Everyone,
I'm Nicky and live in England. I have taken the plunge and joined this group after finding it half way through last year and popping in from time to time. For a variety of reasons, some good and some not so good, I only read 19 books in 2018 so am determined to read much more this year. I have started well and already read The Leavers and Invisible.

Invisible is my 'something borrowed' so I am reading out of order. I really enjoy reading the discussions and member's plans which have given me a lot of inspiration for when I finish the various books I already have which I have managed to allocate to the prompts.

It is nice to 'meet' you all and I look forward to many discussions over the year.

message 665: by Jo (new)

Jo (josethi) | 16 comments Hi all! My name is Jo, I live in Canada. This is my first reading challenge. I am usually more of a mood reader. And whatever my library has available now reader. And the challenge sounds like it can be fun! (not to mention, checklists are always fun...)
Happy 2019 everyone!

message 666: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Yikes!!! I thought I had already made my intro post but I guess not!

Hello all :) My name is Robin and it's nice to meet you all. I am reading from TN. I read across all genres except for horror or anything scary lol. My favorite genres are historical fiction, YA, juvenile fiction.

A few years ago I stopped doing prompt based reading challenges. I belonged to several groups here on GR and was doing every challenge I came across(I really do enjoy challenges). It got to be very time consuming with all the posting, looking for books, etc etc. it was taking away the joy of reading.

I decided this year I would jump in on a just a few prompt based challenges that I saw other readers talking about. This one really appealed to me in that it seems very do-able and relaxed. I need the no pressure/no stress, let's just read and have fun :)

I am excited to be here and this will be my first year doing this challenge. It looks like a lot of fun and more of what I am looking for in a challenge. Have fun everyone and happy reading to you all.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Robin! I hope you’re having fun with your reading and that the group meets your expectation! It is true that a more relaxed challenge takes less time organising, although it can be quite time consuming to add tons of books to your to read list thanks to all the members’ recommendations haha

Thanks Sophie!!!! Yes, I am enjoying this group : ) and the challenge. I love the prompts and what I am reading is falling into place nicely : ) I have already added to my TBR since I have been here. Not that I needed to add any more but that is a BIG part of the fun!!!!

Hi. I'm Trish and I live in London. I work from home editing financial research.

I only just discovered this group, having seen it referred to by various people who are also doing the PopSugar challenge this year (another one I'm doing). I'm also a member of the Seasonal Reading Challenge, and the Cozy Mysteries group.

I particularly read SF/fantasy, mysteries, procedurals and history, but I'm willing to try most books

I enjoy doing prompt- or task-based challenges, as they help me to a) work my way through my ever-growing TBR list, and b) introduce me to books I wouldn't have otherwise even looked for or known about.

I'm probably not going to complete all the prompts in order, as I have a habit of reading books for prompts that take my fancy at any given time, but hopefully I'll at least manage them all!

message 671: by Marilyn (last edited Jan 30, 2019 07:30AM) (new)

Marilyn (goodreadscommarilyn_zembo_day) | 60 comments I'm Marilyn, live in upstate NY, and am in my early 70s (like a t-shirt my husband gave me for this past Christmas, I like to say, "Survived the Sixties. Twice.) and have always loved books. I was the teenager that my cousins thought was weird at picnics because, while they were swimming and doing sports-like activities, I was reading a book. There have been times when it wasn't possible to read as often as I'd like (busy job, raising kids, etc.), but I could always make at least some time to read. Now retired, I still have to make time to enter other worlds through books, with a little writing and art activities going on as well.

I enjoy novels - especially historical ones; memoir; some fantasy or sci-fi; poetry; food-related writing in any genre; romance; spirituality; mysteries without gross blood-shedding; some non-fiction if the topics interest me; books with mystical or goddess-related or witch-connected themes/characters. Thrilled to find this group - now have to figure out some of the mechanisms for posting all relevant info!

Mio (miomanati) | 9 comments Hello, I'm Mio and I know I'm superduper late but I'm pretty new to GR and just found out about this group and I really want to take part. I have read 20 books so far in 2019 and (more or less) managed to match them to some of the weekly tasks. Now for the fun part of finding books to fit the rest! I hope it's not mandatory to publish a plan since I can't plan ahead for the whole year..
Anyway I'm glad to be here!

Tatra, you've inspired me to join in too! I'm also doing Popsugar and recently began lurking this group. I planned to wait to actually start ATY until next year but I just took a look at the prompts and was able to get all my books I already read to fit in. Huzzah!

Stephanie | 93 comments Hi there! Another late joiner, but avid reader. I have no idea why I hadn't thought about using a GR group to have fun with reading and meet others along the way, but here I am now. I love the idea of a challenge, and can fit in what I have read this year into many of these categories. :) I also look forward to seeing what others are reading and getting recommendations!

I like reading a smorgasbord of genres and styles - fiction, non-fiction, literary fiction, historical, mystery, and romance.

Alison | 76 comments Hi Everyone! I am Alison from Santa Fe, NM and I am really really late in joining (I have been lurking a bit before this introduction)! I have been participating in the 2019 Popsugar Reading challenge which was my first reading challenge ever and decided to jump mid-year into this great group! I will try to fit into some of the categories the books I have read this year and also start with the August section of the Summer Reading Challenge!

I like to read sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, mystery, and romance. Looking forward to participating/comparing notes/getting reading recommendations...

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) I am a late arrival, but hope to participate into 2020+

I have 100's of books and this seems like a great group. My books of choice are non-fiction, biographies/memoirs/autobiographies, religion, Catholic, cozy mysteries, some procedurals, self-help, 1001 minus the erotic (unfortunately, a lot of them).

My ultimate goal would be to use the books I have now instead of buying more and to actually get them read. I love "real" books, but have a lot of e-books as well.

I am really looking forward to this group.

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Welcome to the challenge MaryAnn, I hope you’ll enjoy being part of our group.

I also own lots of books (mostly ebooks) I’m yet to read. I always aim to use them for this challenge but then I see what everyone else is reading for each prompt and end up wanting to buy new books instead! 😅
