Stephanie (scharle4) | 94 comments Hello Fellow Readers!

I am a newbie to the group--I put up my planning post and I am busily planning away with Evernote and bullet journal spreads. I know we are on the downward slope for this year, but I may try to see if I can pull out a few titles yet this year. :)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Yes! Join us in our not-so-secret love of spreadsheets! I’ve been keeping a book spreadsheet since I started doing our first challenge together back in 2015. I love it!

Judith | 0 comments Hi. I'm Judith and I live in the south of England. I only just discovered this group after reading my way around the year all alone. next year I will be organised! I'm currently shoe-horning books into the 52 topics for 2017 wherever I can but sadly some just won't fit.

My favourite genres are literary and historical fiction, and non-fiction particularly relating to WW1. This year I have enjoyed some excellent reads from different places and cultures, and even a bit of sci-fi.

message 455: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Audiogirl.booking.it (audiogirlbookingit) | 488 comments Welcome Judith!! I joined last year and it's fun group to see new book titles and share thoughts on books!! Hope you enjoy it!!!

message 456: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Hi, I'm Amanda. I tried doing a few challenges similar to this last year, but ended up losing track of them because I didn't like the platform I was using. I'm probably crazy for deciding to do this for 2018, but it looks like fun!

message 457: by Sophie (last edited Nov 06, 2017 07:50PM) (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Amanda! We'll never think you crazy for trying to read more! I think the key for attempting challenges is not bite more than you can chew and keep the goal in mind (reading more or discovering new books) when you feel overwhelmed! The first year I did this challenge I definitely felt I was reading more to tick prompts off the list and realised that completely defeated the purpose.

Good luck with your reading! Most people create a topic with their plan and some of us use spreadsheets, the trick is to find what works for you!

message 458: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 119 comments Hi everyone. I'm Sheri, I just found out about the challenge. I'd seen people posting over in popsugar but just now seriously asked about it. I think I'll try to join in next year!

message 459: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome to our group Melissa and Sheri! I hope you'll have fun with us! If you want, you can even try to fill the books you read this year in the 2017 challenge ;)

message 460: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments Hi I am new - love the idea of a book a week Do you have a minimum page limit for books

message 461: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Marie! Most of us don't read strictly a book a week, some books take longer or a shorter time to read. And you can make the challenge as challenging for you as you want! If you typically don't read 52 books a year, you're welcome to include shorter reads like graphic novels or short stories in your challenge.

Pamela Yawn (southernstardust) | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Pam and I love to read science fiction and fantasy mostly. Without ever posting anything, I read along with the 2017 Challenge from March on and did pretty well. I'm a few books behind and am going to try to catch up over the school breaks that are coming up. I am also going to do the 2018 Challenge. Looks like some really interesting topics are coming our way in 2018!

message 465: by Andrea (new)

Andrea HI - I am looking forward to participating in 2018 - looks like a challenge I can manage as I make some life/work changes. I love the escape of reading and have a wide range of genres that interest me. Basically, if a book is well-written I will appreciate it. :)

Kelly Audiogirl.booking.it (audiogirlbookingit) | 488 comments Welcome Andrea! Hope you enjoy the group and the books!! ;)

message 467: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 547 comments Hi, I'm Charlsa. I've participated in the general Goodreads challenge for the last few years, but only to the extent of posting a # of books to read. This year I also participated in the PopSugar challenge. I found out about this challenge via that challenge. I'm going to participate in both challenges for 2018. I hope to not duplicate any books between the two challenges. Science fiction and horror aren't my thing, but other than that, I read a variety of genres both fiction and non-fiction.

message 468: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Charlsa, I hope you're going to have a great time in this group!

message 469: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Smith (bookscoffeejesus) | 10 comments Hello! My name is Jennifer and I live in a small town in Pennsylvania. I stumbled upon this group through someone participating in the PopSugar Challenge and I plan on participating in both challenges in 2018. I attempted the 2017 PopSugar challenge this year and have gotten through most of the prompts, but I'm hoping to be a bit more successful in 2018 by being more organized than I was this year. Besides reading, I am a substitute teacher for two local school districts and a part-time cashier at my local Lowe's Home Improvement store. I play clarinet in my town's community band and on occasion at my church. When I do read, I will read pretty much anything. I'm not a picky person when it comes to book genres, though, to be honest, I typically avoid horror books because they have just never appealed to me (but I may give one or two a try in 2018).

luna ☾ (lunargoddessera)

Hello everyone! My name is Selina and I'm from South Africa, originally from the Philippines. I've never done any year-long reading challenges (or any challenges at all other than Readathons, to be quite honest) so I'm really excited to try it out in the upcoming year.

After high school, I studied Industrial Psychology and after 2 1/2 years of that (I know! Such a waste!), I switched to Computer Science last year. And while both courses have their merits, the main thing I hated was that it didn't give me much time and motivation to read anything in the past 5 years. A few months ago, however, I miraculously made it out of my massive (and really horrible) reading slump and now I'm ready to read everything! I'm so excited to have rediscovered my love for it and I really wish it doesn't go away for that long again. *fingers crossed*

Ann S | 624 comments My name is Ann and I am new here this year. I live in Washington State. I am looking forward to starting in on my list. My only problem is I feel old here; everyone else seems so young. Oh well, I am a retired teacher and librarian and now I raise organic fruits and vegetables and run a CSA business. I lead two, sometimes three, book clubs at senior centers near me, which means a lot of reading anyway. Come on January, I am ready!

message 473: by Anita (new)

Anita (anita622) Hi all - I'm Anita from East Tennessee. This will be my first year participating here and I'm hoping to "double-dip" most books in this challenge and the Pop Sugar Challenge. I'm looking forward to learning the ropes and challenging myself with books out of my comfort zone.

message 474: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amongstars) Hello everyone! My name's Amanda, and I'm from Texas. This is my first year participating in this challenge, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm hoping I will be able to keep with up this challenge and a couple others over the next year.

message 475: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) | 29 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sarah from East Tennessee. This is my first time participating in the AtY Challenge. I'm looking forward to participating without too much planning ahead. I'm hoping to use only library books that are available the week before the next prompt. Since most of the books I like to read usually have long hold lists, I'm hoping this strategy will broaden my horizons by forcing me to select authors or genres I would normally skip over in favor of my usual choices. I'm looking forward to discovering some new favorites!

That is a cool idea! I picked half of my books already and lets be honest..most of them are popular/classic books. Maybe I should also just go with what I can find in the library.

Age is just a number, welcome! Also I think us youngsters would love a more grown up insight on the books we read here and I think hearing our newer ideas must also be interesting :)

Erin Hi Everyone! I'm Erin and I'm from Kentucky. 2018 will be my first year trying this challenge. I've participated in the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge & Popsugar reading challenge. I always start off strong but tend to lose interest midway through. I am determined to do better in 2018.

MichelleCH (lalatina) | 6 comments Hi, I'm Michelle and I have been active on Goodreads since 2008. I found this group by following a discussion thread on a book I was reading. I really like the challenges and have added books to my TBR by following what others are reading.

I have a wide range of reading interests and it seems like I go through a different phase every few years.

We recently adopted two rescue pups so my reading time has become more limited in the last month, but hopefully this won't last too much longer.

I am looking forward to joining in on some challenges.

ash | (sffreads) Hi, I'm Ashley! I'm from Pennsylvania. I'm mom to an almost 2 year old, dog mom x2, and a Speech-Language Pathologist in an elementary school. I've been active on goodreads since 2013 but just found this group. I love to read all genres but shy away from horror. My reading interests change as I grow older. Recently, I've been interested in historical fiction, fantasy, middle grade fiction, and self-help books. I was getting my challenges ready for 2018 so I can't wait to join this one.

message 491: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 423 comments Hi I'm Shelley! I live in NYC and while I have always been a big reader, I have become pretty voracious since moving here. I get almost all of my books from Overdrive either ebooks or audio, which has helped me reach 233 for the year (I'll probably get another 1 or 2 this weekend). I like reading challenges because it helps me focus on what to choose next and keeps me from getting into a funk of too many of the same type. Since I read so much, I'm not sure yet if I'm going to try to keep the challenge books to one a week or just pull the next one when I feel like it. We'll see how it goes

Welcome, everyone!

Shelley, that is an immense number of books. Feel free to check out the list of reject prompts. Some have taken them on as an extra challenge: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 493: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 393 comments Hi guys! My name's Sabrina, I'm a sophomore psychology/pre-med student at Miami University. I've been on goodreads a while now but more in a categorizing capacity then participating in community reading. But since I haven't reached my book goal in the 3 years I've been making them, I decided a group may make me feel more accountable! And this one seemed perfect for so many reasons.

In terms of favorite genres, I'll read pretty much anything. My faves over the years have been John Green books, The Raven Cycle, freakonomics, the book thief, handmaid's tale, captive prince, hamlet, great gatsby, scarlet letter, the giver, maximum ride, immortal life of henrietta lacks, etc.

My reading goal this year is 52 books, which was part of the appeal of this group. I also have a bit of a challenge of my own. I'm attempting to over the course of the next few years read every book talked about on John and Hank Green's channel, Vlogbrothers (I've reached march of 2007 and they've listed 50 books so far so we'll see if I can finish this in my lifetime). If anyone would like to join me in this let me know!

I look forward to meeting and talking to you guys!

message 494: by charlie (new)

charlie (nearfutures) Hey all, I'm Sarah! I go to university in Maryland (English and sociology) but I'm originally from California. I've been on Goodreads for awhile and wanted to get more involved in the community this upcoming year, so here I am! I'm hoping ATY will help me read more broadly. My reading goal last year was 52 and I passed that pretty easily, so I'll probably try for something like 80-100 in 2018.

My favorite genre is science fiction, but I also really enjoy fantasy, plays, and essay collections.

Can't wait to get to know all of you and talk about books!

Hey Sabrina😊. We have a few of the Same favorite books in common. I really NEED to read some John Green this year, lol. It seems I'm missing out. I have two on my list for 2018, The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All the Way Down. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy them.

I need to check out that Vlog.....very curious ;-)

Sarah (prairielily) | 177 comments Hi,
I'm Sarah. I am in Saskatchewan. I have been looking for a reading challenge group for a while. I used to read a lot then i had kids etc etc
I am going to try this out, fair warning: lots of my books will be YA. The school division has moved me up to middle years from early primary and I am completely out of the loop!
Being a teacher, there will be times when I read less and times when I catch up and get ahead (the SUMMER!)

message 499: by ~*Kim*~ (new)

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) Hi! My name is Kim and I found this group looking for new and interesting challenges. I'm not sure if I'll get to all 52 of the challenges, but this looks like a fun one to join.

My favorite genres are historical fiction and chick lit. I have a ton of books on my shelf and I'm hoping to whittle that down some.

message 500: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Owens | 12 comments Hi, My name is Lynda and I found this group while searching for an interesting reading challenge for 2018. Last year was my first to ever do a challenge and it looks like I'm going to finish the year with 3 unmet prompts. I hope to do better with this one!

My favorite genres are literary fiction, historical fiction, Southern fiction, and mysteries/thrillers.

I used to read a lot more before the Internet and cable TV came along. I hope to seriously limit time spent on those time-suckers and spend more time reading, listening to music, and painting in 2018.

So, with that, I'm going to post this, shut down, and start reading! I've got 6 more chapters to read before midnight Central time!!
