Ira | 358 comments Hi, I'm Ira. I live currently in Norway, but I was born in Greece. I discovered this group in February and decided to join. This is my fisrst time doing a Reading Challenge, so in the beginning I wasn't very active in the Group. I decided to try this Challenge out because
1.I wanted to push myself out of my Comfort zone a little and
2. I wanted that extra push to read some books that has been sitting on my bookself for ages.
I am very pleased with the Group and the friendly atmosphere I encountered here.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Hi Ira, it's nice to read from you even if you've been in the group for a bit! Has this challenge helped you to reach your goals?

message 305: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 10 comments Hi,
I'm Karrie from the US. I was wondering if the 2017 group will be here. I will jump in for the rest of 2016, but will we stay here for 2017?
PS. I am a very eclectic reader so I love these challenges to help me choose my next read.

Welcome to the group! :)

Yes, we will be staying in the same group for 2017. Feel free to fit what you have already read this year into the current challenge!

message 307: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 1 comments Hello, everyone! I just found this group and I LOVE reading challenges. I'm already in a ton of challenges for the remainder of 2016, but I'll add this to my list for 2017. Sounds fun!

message 308: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 10 comments Oh fun! I will go back and see if I can fill in the previous weeks!

message 309: by SamZ (new)

SamZ (samwisezbrown) | 154 comments Hi, my name is Sam and I live in Boise, Idaho, USA. I have belonged to other challenges but they got to be too much (like reading 100 books in 3 months!).
I enjoy reading and do it as much as possible, but I get interrupted by my job (teaching) my husband (I kind of like him, though), my daughter (7 years old and LOVES reading also), and my puppy (9 months old and doesn't understand why I want to look at a book when I could be petting her).
I'm looking forward to fitting books with the categories and stretching my literary self!

message 310: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome to our group Sam! I hope you're going to feel good with us, we all have different rhythm and goals and won't force you to read too much (100 books in 3 months, that's crazy!). We're about to finish next year's list, don't hesitate to go to the Project section to vote for the final prompts!

message 311: by Nicola (new)

Nicola Tyson Hello, my name is Nicola and i live in Hertfordshire, UK. I joined this group after watching a wrap up video of Lala's from LalaandBooks where it was mentioned and then being intrigued by the list on her blog. I joined to hopefully! diversify my reading and because i think one book a month is a nice solid pace of reading when life gets in the way. I'm looking forward to getting reading ideas from you all :)

Now I am curious about this video you mentioned. Where can I watch it? Remember the name of the video? :)

message 313: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Lala's channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmT3...
Her AtY plan in January: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1s99...
And she has wrap-up for each month I suppose, but probably not only for these 52 books.
(if you want to binge watch plans, you can search for "around the year in 52 books" and see how some of the booktubers struggled with the group's name :p)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Tammie wrote: "hi all my name is tammie i love to read and make friends and chat about books but one thing about me i am shy with people"

Welcome Tammie, it's quite alright to be shy here. You can participate with the conversations as much or as little as you are comfortable. There are a lot of members here that don't participate in the general conversation at all, they just log their books as they read them and maybe add the book locations to the map, little things that don't require much (if any) interaction. Myself, I have a few topics that I join in chats about, there are a lot that I don't and sometimes when life gets overwhelming I need to step back and take a break from interacting here at all. It's all good. Just do what you feel comfortable with. I hope you enjoy it here!

message 318: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Tammie, I understand it's not easy to arrive in a group and pitch in the discussion, but be reassured, we're all very open and nobody will shun you for anything you say!

I hope we can make you feel welcome and at ease with us!

Ira | 358 comments Sophie wrote: "Hi Ira, it's nice to read from you even if you've been in the group for a bit! Has this challenge helped you to reach your goals?"

I've been reading a lott more this year and I think this is because of the challenge. I have been in a weird reading mood all year where I can't read more than a few pages in one sitting, but because of the challenge I am always reading something even if it is just a few pages every time. I have read some books this year that I have been interested to read for a long time , but for some reasons put off, so regardless if I finish the challenge or not, I Count this year as a success.

message 320: by Eunice (new)

Eunice Hi, my name is Eunice. I actually just saw this in the recently active groups and thought that it was interesting. It would help me read different kinds of books and hopefully explore new books and authors. Also, challenges helps me read more. :) I'm always putting off books, for one reason or another. I won't join in this year's challenge, but I will in 2017.

message 321: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Welcome Eunice! We hope you enjoy the challenge. We have so much fun with it!

message 322: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Eunice! Even if you don't participate this year, don't hesitate to browse the Off Topic category for some discussion about anything, or to look for topics books you read and join in the discussion!

message 323: by Patti (new)

Patti Hello Everyone. My name is Patti. I was just browsing new groups, looking for one with a lot of interaction, and found you. I am currently in NC, : (, as my husband is in the army.
I love to read and talk books. I have been on Goodreads for 3 years, but not very active. Looking forward to doing the 2017 Challenge with you all.

Welcome, Patti!

Are you in Fort Bragg? I spent a lot of time there from 2006-2009 while my boyfriend was in the Army. It's great to keep busy during crazy Army life so hopefully we can help out with that :)

Sam | 316 comments Hey there! I am Sam, and I thought the around the year idea was really clever and fun. I'm very excited to give some thought to which books I want to read that fit each week!

I read a lot and fortunately I can read very quickly, so happy to begin the challenge in 2017 with you all and talk books. Also really excited to get new ideas of things to read in the future based on your reviews (and hopefully I can do the same with my reads).

message 327: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments It's nice to see new people joining us for 2017. Welcome :)
You can already join the A-Z discussions if you read some of the books listed and want to share your opinion about them.

message 328: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 3 comments Hi, I'm Kristen. I live in Mesa, Arizona, USA. I'm getting close to my goal of 52 books for 2016 and love the idea of a group challenge for next year. I'm looking forward to creating my list and joining in on some of the discussions.

message 329: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Shipman Hi I'm Natalie originally from Ohio now living in New York.
I love to read mostly everything that's interesting and I'm looking forward to reading 52 books since I read at least 120+ a year. I will begin on 1/1/2017

Welcome to the group! Feel free to start planning your list and participate in some of end-of-year activities like the book of the month or the read-a-thon.

Natalie, I'm also from Ohio! It sounds like you have plenty of room in your reading to fit the challenge.

message 331: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Shipman Thank you Laura!

message 332: by Melanie (new)

Melanie My name is Melanie and I live in Australia with my husband and 2 children.

I love reading challenges that extend my reading genres so this is a wonderful idea.

My favourite genres are historical fiction, biographies and courtroom dramas.

message 333: by Barb (new)

Barb S Hi All, I'm Barb from Nova Scotia Canada. I was an avid reader in my younger years but have let Netflix slowly take over! I love the idea of this challenge to get me back into reading consistently. My favorite genres are high fantasy, historical fiction and a good crime whodunit.

message 334: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Welcome to the group!

Barb, I also really struggle with Netflix! It's an easy trap to fall into. We actually have a read-a-thon going on this week if you want to really hit the ground running! More info here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 335: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Welcome all :)

Tia > I'm looking forward to your 2017 list, we don't have many horror readers here, so it'll give more ideas for members who want to discover the genre. With your tastes, I'm not surprised you like Missy's channel :)

message 336: by Claire (new)

Claire | 52 comments Hi,

I'm claire, living in Belgium.
This group looks great and I am looking forward to next years book. Sometimes I will have to speed up, I fear as so many books aren't translated and I love to read originals, but that is much slower.
When can we start to read for this challenge?

message 337: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Welcome Claire :)
The challenge starts on the 1st January 2017. If you start a book this December and finish it in January, you can count it for the challenge. No problem in not following the week pace, some members finish the challenge at mid-year, others don't complete the 52. The important is to have fun and to read pleasant books.

message 338: by Jenna (new)

Jenna Vestal (jennanicole521) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Jenna from West Virginia, USA. I stumbled upon this group just yesterday and thought it would be awesome! I love reading, reading challenges, and buying used books. I'm super excited to get started on the 2017 challenge!

Can't wait to start and chat with everyone! :)

message 339: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome to our group Jenna! Don't hesitate to participate in current discussion, and to create your 2017 plan :)

message 340: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn (marilyn357) | 33 comments Hi! Marilyn (middle name Marqueen) from PA living in MD though in my lifetime I have lived all over the US. Retired now so lots of time to read and knit and do genealogy research. Ex-truck driver; ex-college professor (biology). I'm trying to read many of those classics we should have read in high school and college, plus discover some authors who were unfamiliar. Have you ever heard of Hamlin Garland? Apparently, in his time he was a very well known author who today no one knows. His best known work was A Son of the Middle Border. I found him when I attempted to read at least one book by at least one author from each of the 50 states.

message 341: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Welcome to the group, Marilyn. I'm with you on trying to catch up reading the classics. I'm trying to read two a month. I look forward to discussing the classics with you!

message 342: by Nathanael (new)

Nathanael Hoeft Hello everyone, I'm excited to start this plan in the new year and push myself to the 52 books. I didn't read much until a couple years ago when I read like 20 James Patterson's (easy reads I know). 2015 I started keeping track of how many books I rad that year and made it to 29. This year I should make 48. I love detective novels and historical fiction along with studying theology. But I am looking forward to expanding my wheelhouse and hearing some recommendations. Currently reading "The Leopard" by Jo Nesbo

message 343: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Welcome to the group Nathanael, Marilyn and Jenna.

I'm only new here too but love it already.

Happy reading in 2017.

message 344: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcom Nathanael! I loved The Leopard, Jo Nesbo is a great thriller writer!

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 53 comments I am unclear as to how exactly we create a page where we can keep track of our personal reading challenges for this group? (I know, a stupid question, sorry- computer illiterate!) Thanks for the help. --Jen from Quebec :0)

message 348: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 65 comments Hello! I'm Amanda from Maryland. I randomly found this group and thought it looked like fun. I look forward to tackling the challenge for 2017.

Melanie Welcome to the group Amanda.

message 350: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 96 comments Hi! I'm Holly, and like Amanda I randomly found this group whilst looking for other reading challenges and thought 'I'm just crazy enough to try that'.

I'm likely to be reading a lot of fantasy books, but I am trying to branch out so who knows? Should be fun!
