Hello, saw this challenge and thought it would help me stretch in my reading choices. My favorite books to read are cozy mysteries, but want to include other books in my reading.I also this challenge would help with my goal in the Goodreads reading challenge of 50 books!
I have a lot of free time, but also a lot of hobbies to fill it in. The last year or so my reading has been put on the back burner, so to speak. Unfortunately, by book buying did not.
Thanks for letting me participate in this group!
Marj
Hi! I'm Jess! This is my first time posting in any goodreads group. 🥰
I think the premise of ATY in 52 books is genius - I know participating in the challenge will encourage me to read books I wouldn't have before.
...I tend to get stuck in mystery and crime novels! I love them, but I'm definitely looking to broaden my literary horizons. :)
Excited to meet everyone in the group and join in on the challenge!
Jess

I started my 2021 challenge (which exciting and also daunting, but in a good way), and I have a question.
Do plays count towards the challenges? I read Shakespeare's As You Like It earlier this month, and wanted to see if I could fit it into one of the challenge prompts, but then I realized I don't know if that would be allowed.
It's long enough that I feel like I'm not just taking an "easy out" to check off a prompt, but I was wondering what the general consensus was on if plays counted towards the challenge (if there's a rule for it, or if it's personal preference).
Jess
There are rules about no page counts or types of books for the main challenge. Some people have even done the entire challenge using picture books! So if you want to count plays (especially As You Like It... that's not an easy one), then you can absolutely count it.
Some of our side challenges (seasonal challenges, Read-a-Thon games, etc.) might have specific limits in place, but the main challenge does not.

Hi, my name is Darlene. I live in Maine. I just joined this group today. I love to read just about anything. I joined this challenge because I'm always looking for different challenges to do.
Welcome, Darlene, it's not too late to jump into any challenges. You can count any books you have read this year for the year-long 52 book challenge.
Hello, I'm Sarah. :) I'm from Wisconsin in the US. I've been doing the PopSugar Reading Challenge for a few years, but 2021 will be my first ATY challenge. Doing challenges like these has helped me discover that I love many more genres than I thought, so I can't wait to see what ATY helps me stumble upon. :D

Hi Sarah, there are a few of us Wisconsinites here. I am in Madison and Book Concierge is outside Milwaukee. We "met" here a year ago and are waiting to be able to meet up in person.

Hi Jim! I’m just up 295/73 from you! I used to spend a lot of time in the library by the Echelon Mall (I’m still calling it that) when I lived in Camden County. Now I’m in BurlCo. Welcome to the group!

Hi Robin!
I spent a year in Madison at the university and loved it! Now I'm about an hour and a half north of you, in Tomah. :D
Hi I’m Emma and have really been getting into challenges and this group looks like it has some great ones. Looking forward to meeting people here and discussing books!
Hi I’m Alyana and have really been getting into challenges and this group looks like it has some of what I'm looking for. I just saw that the readathon has just finished. Looking forward to join a readathon if there will be any in the future!
Welcome! It's not too late to jump into the yearly challenge and you can count books you have read since January 1.
There is usually a readathon once a quarter as well as a seasonal challenge.

hey everyone. Bharat here. have miserably failed at doing 52 over the last 4 years but am trying to stick to it seriously this time around. Hope to get inspired, challenged and meet some like minded bookworm!!.
I'm Elspeth and I live in California. I am challenge-crazy this year and wanted to join yet another one. (I have completed 2 already this year and am working on 5 more). My favorite books are biographies, particularly of celebrities and comedians, and romance novels. This year though I've read a ton of other genres. I love challenges to take me out of my comfort zone.
Welcome! You can jump in to our 2021 challenge by counting any books you already read this year under the appropriate prompts. You are also welcome to participate in the ongoing drama of our selections for next year, which takes place over a whole season.
I'm Madelynn, I just got back into reading last fall after stopping reading for fun in college and I think I've read about a book a week so far this year. I think it's a little late for me to want to complete the 2021 challenge, but I'm looking into doing the 2022 challenge. I've voted in a couple polls so far and I'm hoping to start working on planning for 2022 soon.
We have quite a few young people in this group who love to read, it's very heartening to see, Welcome, Madelynn!
Hello all. I'm joining for 2022 because your read-a-thons seem wonderful. Looking forward to the new year!
Hi. I am Carol and I love to read. I had been doing fine during these crazy, covidy times, but for the last 10 months, I have been feeling a little scritchy and relying on "lighter" reads. You have some really neat topics selected for the 2021 reading challenge.
Hi I'm Louise from Denmark - I have 1000+ unread paper books at home (keep insisting to my husband they decrease the heating bill!) happy dachshound owner and mother of 2:-)I found you through your listopia lists and this looks fun! So I am in for 2022

So great to meet another book addict - or another way to put it would be book enthusiast! During the shutdown at the beginning of the pandemic, one of my friends literally had nothing to read at home and the library was closed. I could be quarantined for years and not run out, so I was happy to lend her several books.

Robin, What a horror story... at home during the shutdown without any books! Yikes! Thank goodness for friends like you to lend books.
Hello, everyone! My name is Sofia and I'm from Greece. I've found this group very recently, and I'm waiting for the 2022 challenge to start! I love books with magical realism/fabulism elements, and those that tackle the themes of death and grief.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm currently living in Yorkshire. I recently retrained as a teacher which kept me so busy I barely had time to pick up a book unless it was for one of my essays. Listening to audiobooks on my commute kept me sane but I have gathered a huge book pile that I can't wait to get started on 😁. I'm looking forward to the 2022 challenge starting, chatting about books and getting some recommendations.
Greetings! My name is Joy and I live in northern Nevada. I read a lot and love to participate in challenges and chat about books. I saw your group and thought I'd give the 52 ATY a try.
Welcome, Joy D! We still have an autumn challenge and will have a Read-a-thon before the end of the year, so you can participate before January if you wish to. You can also check out all the threads relating to next year's challenge items.
Hi.. My name is Colleen, i am 29 years (30 in early 2022) and live in Texas about 30 minutes outside of Austin. I love to read, but i also like to go to the movies, concerts and try new restaurants. I have a cat named Baby and my most recent read was Accidentally Engaged by Farah Heron.. My favorite genres are romance, historical fiction and fantasy.
