hello everyone, im Cigdem from Istanbul, Turkey and excited to find this group :> i hope i can manage to do well in the 2024 prompts. i like sci-fi, dystopia and fantasy genres a lot but i have read classics/fiction more than those this year :D i like to explore genres but the only thing i havent read is pure horror. i couldnt read well this year as opposed to (i hope i used it correctly) previous years so i want to get back to it in 2024 ♡ oh i was wondering if you have a discord channel or not?
Welcome Cigdem! Your question about proper use of “opposed to” looks correct to me. Re: Discord - I’ve heard of it, but never used it, and never heard it mentioned in this group. Maybe someone else knows for sure?Re: the horror genre - I tried my first real horror book in the last couple of months. I only got 20% and decided it was NOT for me. I hope you have better luck than I did if you try. I read many other genres, so I don’t think my reading will be short changed (hurt).
Welcome, Cigdem! We have members from quite a few countries here. I also don't like horror. And no, we don't have a group on Discord, Facebook, or anywhere else, this is it!
hi everyone, i'm tina from brazil!! i heard about ATY through popsugar reading challenge's group and i'm very excited to begin the challenge in 2024. my favorite genres are thriller and romance, but the only genre i'm truly opposed to read is dark romance. i also love reading about twisted characters and goverments, and creating big ambitious tbrs.
Welcome tina! You'll find we all have big ambitious TBRs here... I would personally like the publishing industry to take a year's pause on publishing new books because I can't keep up with all the books I want to read!

I probably posted this somewhere in this group before, but when I think about someday no longer being alive, my first thought isn't so much for my family, but for all the great new books I'll miss!

Hi there, I'm Rosalind and live by the sea in Sussex, UK. I have been lurking here and working on the 2023 challenge (just one prompt left to fill) but haven't participated in discussion yet so am looking forward to changing that.
Welcome, Rosalind, feel free to join in anywhere. And congratulations on finishing the challenge!
Hey I'm new here, wanting to get ready for 2024. Not too sure how to go about all this but I like the idea of reading 52 books according to prompts! I'm still looking around to see if I can figure out the whole tracking system. Cheers!
Hi Mia! Welcome to the group! I'm sure you'll figure it out quickly as you check out the threads, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Welcome Mia, it's up to you if you do any tracking on our site or not. You have an option to put a thread here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
You also have the option to use our group spreadsheet, which is found here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
We also have seasonal challenges and our upcoming Read-a-thon, our Weekly Question and several chat threads. You are welcome to participate as much or little as you like. And you will see that there are individual threads to share ideas about all the prompts for 2024.

Hi, I'm Mia! Looking forward to reading more books next year (not 52, but more than this year 😀). Like the group spreadsheet.
Welcome Mia! We are pretty laid back so feel free to tackle the challenge however works for you!
Hi! I’m Lauren! I’m excited to start the challenge for 2024! My favorite genres are fantasy, sci fi and romance but I will read pretty much anything!! I’m from Vermont, U.S. so I’m happy to hibernate and read in the cold winter months. I look forward to chatting with everyone throughout the challenge!
Hi, I'm John, I have been an avid reader since Is five many years ago. I have retired twice as a mental health administrator and college psychology instructor. I have an ecletic reader but favor historical fiction, especially mysteriess, classics, science fiction, literary fiction, etc. I have been participating in PopSinugar but the tags have become increasingly more and more specific with little room for choice requiring me to seek books not on my TBR shelves. Based on the 2024 list, I believe this group will best help me whittle down my TBR books.
Hi John! Welcome! We started our group as an alternative to Popsugar, so you are in the right place.
Welcome John, you are right that our tags offer more scope for reading from our (often vast) TBR shelves. Members can always add more to the challenge, like reading diverse authors, but the general rule is "if you say it fits, it fits!"
My favorite books are historical fiction and historical mysteries. Modern mysteries are less interesting because the internet and cell phones eliminate so much of the process (though there are some modern mysteries I love.) I also read a lot of other genres.
Feel free to participate in any of our seasonal challenges, weekly questions, monthly discussions, etc. And if you are looking for ideas on any of the 52 prompts, you will see there is a discussion thread for each of them.

I apologize in advance for saying, "Huh?"

No need to apologize ever, and feel free to ask questions!

Hi! This is my first time joining and participating. I read a fair number of classics and backlisted books. I love mystery and historical fiction, but I'm interested in expanding my genre reading.
I like challenges that aren't overly specific, so this one should be fun!
Hello everyone! I am joining this group to help me tackle my TBR pile by guiding me in selecting books. With criteria, I am going to be more apt to read books that I pass over repeatedly because of a more "flashy" read. Looking forward to my reading journey in 2024 more than I have in a long time.

Welcome, and you are exactly right! This group can give us the push to get to some of the books languishing on our shelves (physical or virtual). Feel free to join in our seasonal challenges and any of our discussions.

Hi all!My name is Camilla, I'm originally from Denmark, but currently living in Rome, Italy, and I have been lurking a bit in this group for a bit, but the time has finally come where I dedicate myself to fully trying the challenge for 2024!
I am an avid reader, and have WAY too many unread books (last count was 500+ physical unread books in my house), so I hope this challenge and the social aspect will help me whittle down :)
I fully agree with what others have said that if only the publishing industry would just take a few breaks once in awhile, it would be easier - right?
I love to read most things, but particularly fantasy, sci-fi and literary fiction. I look forward to getting to know you all :)
Hi everyone, I'm from Central Texas, and reading keeps me sane. I want a challenge for encouragement to read what's on my tbr list and was hoping that some prompts would give me the motivation to tackle those books (I saw Jennifer was trying to this as well). My goal in signing up for this group was for motivation to track my reading and helping me to decide what to read next. Is it okay if only do the prompts that fit my tbr list? Have so many on my tablet and shouldn't buy anymore until I'm done (like that's going to work).

Hi Laura! Welcome, and yes you are free to do whichever prompts you want and however many you want. People approach the challenge in different ways and you will find many who are also trying to trim down their tbrs.

Hey Laura! We encourage people to tackle the challenge however fits their reading and lifestyle. Some people opt to take on just the first half of the list, or handpick the prompts that work for them, or to stretch the prompts very far to work for what they want to read.
I have 2 questions about the 2024 ATY Challenge regarding the prompts. I just need clarification on:#3. A book that fits a suggestion that didn't make it the final list
#13. A book that is on a Five Books List, reader's choice of what list
Where do I find these lists? Thank you
Hi Laura! You can generally check this folder for more information on each prompt:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
If you go to the thread for Week 3, you'll find a link to the list of suggestions that didn't make the cut. For the Five Books list, it is referencing www.fivebooks.com!

Hi All, my name is Darcy. I love the idea for this group and am excited to participate! I live in Florida and spend as much time as I can reading and listening to books (preferably at the beach, but it doesn't happen very often). I love reading fiction and lately a lot of romances. Looking forward to everyone's insights!
Hi. I'm a Texan living in England. I average about 2 book a week. My favourite genres are fantasy & sci-fi, but I will read any genre. Not a big fan of true crime, but I'll sometimes read that too. I'm still trying to get my head around this challenge. Are the books in the prompt lists for inspiration? Or do I have to read a book from that list?
Welcome Keli!
The books on the listopias and weekly threads for each prompt serve as inspiration. You're welcome to read any book that you think fits the prompt, and feel free to add inspiration for others!

Welcome, Keli, you are just in time to start 2024 (though members can join anytime of course!) The rule in ATY is "if you say it fits, it fits". Our plans are not adjudicated in any way. Some members choose to include children's books, and some set extra goals, like all books by writers of color, etc. Some of our prompts are very straightforward, like a book published in 2024. Others are very open, like a book relating to intelligence. If you get stuck anywhere, or you are just curious, the threads are a great place to get ideas.
Hello! I'm Janet, and I live in Oklahoma. This is my first year to do this challenge. I have always tackled 40-50 books a year, but don't always make the goal. I stumbled upon this group and discovered that I could complete most of the prompts with books I already own, which is another challenge I'm tackling this year. I love reading fantasy, mysteries, and sci-fi but am always open to exploring new genres.
Hello everyone! My name is Hannah and I come from Munich- Germany, right now I live in Brazil. I like reading a lot and since I followed the challenge last year, this year I wanted to give it a try. On my list is a mix of authors from all over the world. I will give my best to join the discussions.
Welcome Hannah! We don't have many southern hemisphere folks so it's fun to add people who are off season from the rest of us!
Hello everyone! I'm Luana, a Brazilian currently living in Canada. I've been planning to join the challenge for a few weeks, and I'm finally ready. Wishing us all a year full of fantastic reads.
Hi, I'm Pauliina and joining this challenge for the first time! This is also my very first post on Goodreads and I hope to be more active here as I've really enjoyed reading through the conversations so far. I'm in Helsinki, Finland, and may also use some Finnish books for the prompts.
Welcome! We are honored that you chose us as your first place to post on GR. Our challenge is very flexible, and we have other opportunities, such as seasonal challenges and read-a-thons throughout the year.
If you see a thread about a book or topic that interests you, feel free to comment, even if it is an older thread. We will see the new activity.

I'm Tammie and I'm from Missouri. I've used your Listopia's so often that I decided to check out the group. Will do my best to contribute.
