Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments Jody, I hope you like Wicked! Both the book and show are great, but they're pretty different, especially the endings. Obviously there is a lot of stuff they had to leave out because of time constraints, but there were some things they just blatantly changed. Either way they are both excellent stories.

I know for years a movie has been in development. Last I heard is that they want a 2016 release, but I don't know if that's going to happen. I hope it does but I'm not holding my breath.

Elizabeth | -19 comments 26. A book everyone is talking about .would Saga #1 by Brian K. Vaughan Saga #1count,

message 53: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments You can read some lighter books if you want, so a graphic novel is ok. I'd recommend Saga, Volume 1 rather than #1 (which is around 30p), so you'll have a full introduction to the series and not just a chapter ;)

Elizabeth | -19 comments questions about some topics:
24. A "between the numbers" book of a series (0.5, 1,5, 2.5, etc.)and 51. A short story from a well-known author:which would this be The Midnight Watch (Sigma Force #10.5) by James Rollins The Midnight Watchor would it be 40. A novella from your favorite genre

message 55: by Michelle (last edited Nov 17, 2015 03:56PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Elizabeth, I really think that is open to your interpretation.

Me, personally, I like to think of novellas as being around 200 pages (give or take) with short stories being less than 100 pages. If I was reading this on my list, I would either use it as a between the numbers or a short story.

Elizabeth | -19 comments question:34. A book about mental illness: would this count Ten Days in a Mad-House by Nellie Bly Ten Days in a Mad-House

message 58: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments I would say so Elizabeth. I'm not familiar with the material but it sounds like it has to do with someone's experience in a mental health facility.

Elizabeth > The original suggestion provided a list that they wanted used. But people can use your list if they want to get flexible with the challenge :)

message 64: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Elizabeth, this thread is for help, its purpose is "you have a problem using the group or a question, the mods will answer you and you can have a look at the previous questions to find your answer".
There is a thread for recommandations in the Off Topic folder ;)

If you have questions about the topics then feel free to ask in here but remember that it is your plan so if you think a book counts then go for it :)

message 66: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | -19 comments how many books can you list for the same topic if you can't decide which one to read, because for topic 37. A book that you've seen the movie of but haven't read: I've got 11 books for movies I've seen but haven't read.

message 67: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
It's completely up to you. Just remember you're ideally reading the books on your plan... If you can read 11 books then read 11. If not, then it's your choice which one you would like to read.

I know I couldn't fit that many in, but that's just me ;)

Angela | 389 comments Are there any objections to my sharing this challenge with my book clubs, and posting my book choices on Facebook as I go (I did this with the 2015 Reading Challenge)?

message 70: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Angela, you can share the challenge and your plan without problem, maybe just put the link to the group so people interested in could join too :)

message 71: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | -19 comments I've got a question. 28. A biography, autobiography, or memoir so basically a A biography, autobiography, or memoir is a book on someones life , history and so on right, so would a book about The Tuskegee Airmen: The History and Legacy of America's First Black Fighter Pilots in World War IIbe like a biography, autobiography, or memoir since it talks about their lives doing WW2 , the places they fight and so on or is a biography, autobiography, or memoir some what different then what I'm think they are. Since I never seem to pick them up.

message 72: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments I don't know if it really corresponds to the true definition of a biography as it will be probably more about the group rather than about the pilots' lives, but if you find the book interesting for this category, feel free to use it.

message 74: by Maple (new)

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. Please forgive me if it's not :)

There seem to be a lot of people who are doing some for of the reject challenge. Do you think it might be possible to get a folder specifically for the people participating in this? We could do a general folder with each of the different topics as sub folders. We could use the topic subfolder as a place to talk about the different books we read for that topic.

If it's not doable, that's okay. I just thought it might be good since there seem to be a lot of people doing this challenge also.

message 75: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments As we are using A to Z folders for the books, I suppose it's ok if the books chosen for the rejected list go there too.

message 76: by Maple (new)

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments Excellent *picture Mr. Burns from The Simpsons as I said that*

Thanks, Zaz!

message 77: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments I agree with Zaz. That way if people are reading some of the same books for their reject challenge as others are reading for their main challenge we can have that much more discussion! We'll take over the book discussions... then the world! *insert maniacal laugh here*

JoJo Kirkman (jojo2013) | 315 comments If I'm reading an omnibus (Dick Francis Omnibus: The Danger; Proof; Hot Money and I read the first story, can I count that as a book read, or do I have to read all of them for it to count?

Stephanie (teff1979) ok so for week 16 what would be a fast read from the top 100 mystery novels I looked at the list but would like one that I can get done if there is a children's one that would be great or Young Adult any advice would be nice

message 83: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments And Then There Were None would be my recommendation, Stephanie. I read it this year - it's a quick, easy read, and I think a lot of people read it when they're YAs.

Stephanie > Rosemary's Baby is a good horror classic. Not too scary but a little creepy. I personally enjoyed it and it's a fairly quick read.

Stephanie (teff1979) for week 51- A short story from a well known author is it ok to use a book that has a bunch of stories with well know authors- would I pick just on of the stories or the whole book?

I'll be reading And Then There Were None for my week 16 selection. My son read it his sophomore or junior year of high school and it's still in my kindle library. He just told me yesterday it was his favorite read of his high school assignments.

Stephanie (teff1979) ok sorry if this is not the correct spot to post but what is the popsurgar challenge i have seen some talk about

message 91: by Michelle (last edited Dec 07, 2015 10:14PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Stephanie, I plan to read a book of short stories with stories from many well known authors for Week 51 also.

As for the PopSugar challenge you keep seeing mentioned... in 2015 PopSugar (the website) did a reading challenge. It was just like this group challenge - 52 topics for 52 books. This group is kind of a follow-up to a previous group that many of us participated in (and are still participating in) that followed the criteria from the 2015 PopSugar challenge. This year our challenge is based on selections made by and voted on by members from the previous group. PopSugar does have a 2016 challenge (with less books), but the group is not officially doing that this year. Although some members are as an extra challenge.

Ok thanks for the info. Maybe I will check it out. I try to do many challenges but I also use a lot of picture books and children's fiction since I am a children's librarian And it looks like some from our challenge will fit popsugars

message 95: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments This is a bit of a random question, but is there a way to randomize my TBR list? Just thinking about finding the 16th book on my list, and I'd like to randomize it first. I started my list a few years ago, so there may be books on there that I don't want to read anymore...or at the very least, I'd like to have more recent books better mixed in without having to individually adjust the order.

message 96: by Michelle (last edited Dec 11, 2015 11:57PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Rachel, the only way that I am aware of how to do this is the following:

1. Go to your to-read shelf.
2. Click on the "Settings" link at the top of the list (next to the search bar). This should open a menu called "visible columns."
3. On the bottom of the "visible columms" menu, under the "other" header, and click the drop-down box next to where it says "sort." There is a random option in there.
4. Click on the box that says "Save current settings to your 'to-read' shelf." It will then randomize your list.

It will not change the actual numbers but you can then count out to the 16th book and choose that way.

Thanks, that's much better. I found that my list was very strangely grouped. I'd have a ton of classics in a row, then a few YA mixed in, then a ton of children's books... I think when I first started the list, I just added things by going category by category in the recommendations.

message 98: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Yeah. I prefer the randomization method also because I think my books were added similarly when I joined GR. I ended up doing the same thing (randomizing my list) then I changed the book that I ended up with to the 16th book. I figure the point of that particular challenge task is to read a random book from your to-read shelf so what is the harm?

Exactly what I was thinking. My original list wasn't very random at all.

Also, I swear I asked this somewhere already but I can't find the post. For the "book from an author you really should have read by now", was it supposed to be an author I haven't read by now but should have, or a book I missed out on by an author that I have read before? Hopefully that makes sense...
