Gillian Flynn
- Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?
Yes! I originally had Under the Net by Iris Murdoch on my list (fell in love with her after The Sandcastle), but I wasn't able to get ahold of a copy. However, I totally flew through Dark Places, so I regret nothing!

Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?

Which book by her destroyed you?! That's a pretty big statement. I'd like to know so I can stay away from the tear jerker. I just read one and I will be thinking about it long after. May take me a year or more to read one again. They also destroy me.

- Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?
Kristin Hannah and Ken Follett were both authors I read for the first time in 2015, so there's loads to choose from there, but I know they will be around waiting for me.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments What are you reading this week?
It works out really well that this is the book of the month, since I was planning on reading it anyway. I've chosen Attachments

Who is the author?
Rainbow Rowell. I read Eleanor & Park last year as my book set in high school for PopSugar, and I really liked it. I started looking at plot summaries online for her other books, and this one really stood out.

Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?
There were quite a few. Liane Moriarty was a main one. I read two of her books last year, and really enjyoed them both espeically Big Little Lies. I also considered Lisa Genova, but I'd already read something of hers this year and I'm trying to avoid repeating the same author as much as possible.

A few other possibilities were: Anita Shreve, William Landay, Amy Tan, Lisa See, or Barbara Delinsky.

Kira | 9 comments Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk A Modest Bestiary by David Sedaris This is the sixth challenge I completed. I chose to read Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary by David Sedaris. Last year I read one of his other books, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls. I enjoyed that one, so I had high hopes for this book and I was not let down! Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk is a collection of short stories about personified animals. I was laughing out loud the whole time reading this. While it was a little vulgar at times, I still loved it. My favorite read of 2016 so far, and maybe a new fav of all time. I am so excited to pick up more Sedaris books.

Engle, Erik Larson, Harper Lee, M Malliet, Emily St. John Mandel, Kate Manning, Carson McCullers, David Nicholls, Carl Nordgren, Tea Obreht, Barbara Pym, Lori Rader Day, Georges Simenon, Graeme Simsion, Amy Stewart, Evelyn Waugh, Virginia Woolf, It's exciting to try new authors!

- What are you reading this week?

The Swans of Fifth Avenue

- Who is the author?

Melanie Benjamin

- Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?

I could have chosen Gillian Flynn because she is the other author I discovered in 2015 but I enjoyed Melanie Benjamin more and The Swans of Fifth Avenue seemed more interesting to me than another Gillian Flynn novel.

message 79: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 331 comments I read The Book of Night Women by Marlon James.

Last year, he blew me away with A Brief History of Seven Killings. Others suggested I read Night Women to get more of his talent. They were right. It was a devastating novel.

No other author fit the bill quite as nicely as James did.

Aine | 179 comments What are you reading this week?
The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith

Who is the author?
As is well known by now, Robert Galbraith is the pseudonym of JK Rowling. I'm sorry the Harry Potter books weren't around when I was young enough to enjoy them, but I understand the hype more with the Comoron Strike series. She really is a remarkable storyteller and I'm invested in the overarching story of the series.

Is there another author you could have chosen for this week?
Some of the other remarkable authors I read in 2015 (although most of them haven't yet written a second novel) were Nathan Filer, Mary Ann Shaffer, Abigail Tarttelin and Sara Baum. To name a few...
