You're not the only one.... ME ME ME ME ME! I HATE Annabeth too! Thank goodness some people share my opinion on her. I'm not going to start a long rant because there are just so many things that make Annabeth so hateable. I hope Percy breaks up with her and finds a girl that's better.

Kamiko WHAT?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You scared of arguing? That's what they say when they have no arguments *shakes head*

Kamiko Ha!

I'm not scared of arguing and don't shake your head at me! What did I ever say that implied I'm scared of arguing?? I just don't like Annabeth. She is annoying and the ultimate "Mary-Sue". She's described as intelligent, pretty, and being SO GOOD at everything. There is nothing even remotely interesting about her and she doesn't have any flaws whatsoever, (her flaw of having too much pride doesn't count). I'm not really good at arguments, other people can probably sum up why they dislike her better, but you get my point.

Christina H. Kamiko wrote: "Ha!"

That's pretty rude of you. Some people just don't like Annabeth very much and they are allowed to express their opinions too. Deal with it.

message 307: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko I didn't mean "Ha!" as in it's funny, I meant "Ha!" as in she's not scared of arguing, we've been arguing a lot on this thread.

Christina H. Oh...sorry. *looks away awkwardly*

message 309: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko That's okay.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're not bad at arguing XD, I was just trying to egg you on. Reverse psychology ;p

And I don't particularly want to start an argument (so many exams, agh) but I will say this: People argue that yes, Annabeth is a Mary Sue, but here's where things get a bit tricky. Mary Sue's are everywhere in literature, they're all unique Mary Sue's (give them that), but it all comes down to how an author decides to depict that 'Sue'. In Annabeth's case, if you look at her character profile without including her environment, her history, her friends, just her looks and characteristics, then she will come off as a smart, pretty blond whose fear of spiders and whose haughtiness comes off as admirable and cute.

But that's only if you look at her profile. And you see, in a story, to isolate one aspect is to rip the book apart. You have to look at it as a whole to really figure out if the characters are likable or not.

To sum this up, there's nothing wrong with Mary Sue's, the problem is how they are portrayed. With Ann's case, it only makes me love her more.

message 311: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha Annabeth is not Mary Sue at all. So does not is Piper and Hazel.

Kathryn Too add to what Zanib said, Annabeth is smart and pretty and blonde and scared of spiders because she is a daughter of Athena, those are the characteristics of all Athena kids

Kathryn To* heh, sorry its too early in the morning for me

message 314: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha Annabeth is Annabeth. She isn't like ANY of the characters we've Ever met.

Christina H. Neha (Athena) (Queen Elinor) wrote: "Annabeth is Annabeth. She isn't like ANY of the characters we've Ever met."

Yeah, right. She's the character with hardly any flaws. Reminds me of Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter and Bella from Twilight. She's the cliche character and is similar to MANY characters I've met.

message 316: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha Of course she has flaws! But she is 'Unique'! She has her own 'character'. She might remind you of other characters of other books, but that is only a Part of her that will remind you. No one can say that she is 100% Bella or Ginny. Bella is Bella. Ginny is Ginny. Annabeth Chase is Annabeth Chase!

Kathryn Amen to that

Zanib And I mean seriously, Annabeth never came off as anything but unique.

message 319: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Seconded.

message 320: by Ananth (new)

Ananth Annabeth is not so perfect. Mary sues are people who have EVERYTHING perfect about them, including their past. I don't thing living on your own on the streets fighting monsters for a couple years is considered good.

message 321: by Mandi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mandi okay annabeth is just being how anybody would act in these situations except more level headed
many girls hate that other person who likes her crush and she had a bad experience with cyclopes and that made her treat tyson that way, you all would act the same way as annabeth except probably more distressed and confused because annabeth has training and smarts

message 322: by Ananth (new)

Ananth So are you saying I'm stupid? That I'm a prince in distress? Do you think I'm a sad little puppy?

message 323: by Mandi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mandi no im not saying anything and i never said annabeth was perfect
1. my comment was in no regards to yours
2. i didnt even read your comment
3. im just saying my opinion

message 324: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Ok, Annabeth is AWESOME! How many times do I have to tell people that? Ok, if you disagree with me, present your argument. I will tell you why your argument isn't proving that Annabrth is annoying, mean, and aggravating!

Kathryn Yea we Annabeth supporters will fight until the end and will see everything wrong with your argument...no hard feelings though

message 326: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Yeah! What you said!

Zanib oh, yeah, and y'all have me to support you guys XD No one is getting away with calling Annabeth anything without one heck of an argument.

message 328: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Annabeth haters WATCH OUT!!!!!!

Zanib Carthya wrote: "Kamiko wrote: "Ok, Annabeth is AWESOME! How many times do I have to tell people that? Ok, if you disagree with me, present your argument. I will tell you why your argument isn't proving that Annabr..."

like Kamiko said, you think she's not awesome? That's fine, but if you can't support your argument than there's no question that there are no arguments against Annabeth

message 330: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Yeah

message 331: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko ............................................

Zanib You should be more clear whether you're pro, against, or just neutral.

message 333: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Okay, I meant that if you dislike Annabeth, you should have a presentable argument about why you dislike her. The argument should be good enough so I can see what you mean and understand your feelings. No need to get all mean.

Zanib Ditto what Kamiko said. People don't just dislike a character for no reason... and if there is a reason, why not let it be known?

There's nothing wrong with arguing and taking sides. That's one thing that makes reading so much fun. Discussing things afterwards.

message 335: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Ditto what Zanib said

message 336: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Yes they do! I have a reason why a dislike characters even if they have a lot of fans.

message 337: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko I would love to argue in Annabeth's defense.

message 338: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha Well actually that's okay by us, because we have several 'reasons' to love Annabeth :D.

Zanib Neha (Athena) (Queen Elinor) wrote: "Well actually that's okay by us, because we have several 'reasons' to love Annabeth :D."

Lol, I could go on.

message 340: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha *shrug* Well I think the main reason for disliking a character is because sometimes people can see that character relate to another character they dislike very much. People need to understand that when we read a new novel we have to Stop comparing it to other books and characters, otherwise it could ruin the whole point of enjoying that particular novel. Sure, when you're up to discussions comparisons DO come, but it is equally necessary to understand the uniqueness of each character. That would lead to understand the character correctly, and probably remove any dislikes you have towards them. I mean come on there has to be a reason So many people love Annabeth right? So many people could not be that crazy to blindly like Annabeth's character. Not that characters don't have flaws at all, but its the way they tackle with their flaws that make them lovable and favorite! They give children and young adults like us encouragement to tackle with their personal problems. Annabeth us just one of them, at least for me.

message 341: by sim (new) - rated it 5 stars

sim I'm with Carthya on all this! You Annabeth lovers seriously are getting kinda pushy! This thread isn't named: 'Why do you love Annabeth?' or 'Argue with people who hate Annabeth HERE!' It's called 'Am I the only one who hates Annabeth?' so basically I'm inviting people who dislike Annabeth to discuss as to why they hate her but I'm completely okay with Annabeth lovers sharing their opinions and fighting for their side. In fact its really entertaining to watch! But that doesn't mean you have to demand explanations about why we hate Annabeth: this thread is made for A haters not A lovers (no offense, and no hard feelings. I still love u all A lovers) so we don't have to prove anything as its our domain!
And fine, you want reasons and arguments? Go back in this thread and you'll find so MANY reasons that it'll tire your eyes out reading all of them!
Again no hard feelings and no offense but what I just said is the truth.

message 342: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha None taken. I was just giving my opinion on why I think people dislike a character, and why I love annabeth. I guess its just about seeing how many people like or dislike annabeth right?
And yeah I kinda agree with you on this discussion :)

message 343: by sim (new) - rated it 5 stars

sim Neha (Athena) (Queen Elinor) wrote: "*shrug* Well I think the main reason for disliking a character is because sometimes people can see that character relate to another character they dislike very much. People need to understand that ..."

You know I really love you Neha...you have this great personality that even though you're an A lovers, you don't get mean and demanding but fight for your side all the same. You do it civilly and I admire that very much! And then you don't even hate on A haters and get friendly with them!
Hats off to you!

The name of the thread is practically calling on both Ann lovers and haters. The whole point is to engage in discussion, or else it's just: I like her, I don't, I do, I do, I don't. And on the other hand, I don't think anyone, certainly myself, was DEMANDING and explanation. You give or you don't, your choice.

But yeah, no hostility, lol

message 345: by Neha (new) - rated it 5 stars

Neha Gee thanks. I just Love different opinions!! But its my flaw that I can rarely hate anyone :/. Like even if people are hating the things I really love, I can't take offense and try to discuss the matters 'civilly'. Only that it doesn't work in real life, coz people aren't that patient...

message 346: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko I get you. I rarely dislike a "good" character. When I do, it's for a reason. I don't mean to be rude or demanding, I just get defensive when someone dislikes somebody I LOVE! How would you be if someone hated Percy. Now that's where it REALLY gets heated!

message 347: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko It is nothing like Harry Potter, except for the fact that they're both awesome!

message 348: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Yeah

Gayathri The only reason I dislike Annabeth is because she hated Tyson because h was a Cyclops.

message 350: by Kamiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kamiko Um...she hated him at first. She had every reason to hate him, too. I'd be really cautious if a cyclops wanted to touch my hair.
