THANK YOU!! Everyone has been going against me in this thread...it's nice to have someone agree with me:') And Katie, nope I don't think Annabeth and Hermione are alike at all. Maybe intellectually but not otherwise. I can state a hundred reasons why...

Ananth Katie wrote: "What exactly do you mean?"

I mean that I have her wit and personality, but I am a guy and I look different.

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

Not that different other than Hermione really just knows facts while Annabeth knows the facts but uses them. Hermione is like a book you could say. While Annabeth is like a robot. Not the best analogy ever but I hope you get what I mean.

message 54: by Ananth (new)

Ananth I don't like the Harry Potter movies because I once saw a disturbing scene where Harry and Hermione were making out naked.

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

ewww

message 56: by Ananth (new)

Ananth Yeah, and I think Ronald Wesley saw that.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

Ugh jeesh I did NOT need to know that

message 58: by Ananth (last edited Feb 21, 2014 01:41PM) (new)

Ananth So now you understand why I don't like Harry Potter.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

*sigh*
I used to think Harry potter was great an hour ago. Not anymore.

message 60: by Ananth (new)

Ananth Okay, we're at an agreement here.

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Guys, when I wrote: "I used to think Harry Potter was great an hour ago.
Not anymore."
I was referring to the movie not the book. I still love the book.

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

Plus I was also only referring to that movie. (aka deathly hallows part a)

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

Actually I didn't like either of the deathly hallows movies.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

It's okay. :)

I actually don't know. Maybe. I was looking through google images for a dragon pic and then I saw it and was like that looks awesome.

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmm I have unconsciously picked something that is apparently awesome. Everyone take note. I am officially (sort of) psychic. :) jk I'm not that awesome. Do you recommend Temeraire?

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait there's a series and a stand alone which is it?

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait its the series isn't it.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay cool. :)

message 70: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 21, 2014 07:33PM) (new)

Does anyone find it crazy that we started talking about how much we do or don't hate Annabeth to Harry Potter to Temeraire?

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay.

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

(I mean for not buying the books all at once)

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

'tis okay

Mary I like Annabeth but I admit in The Heroes of Olympus series she has sort of gotten on my nerves. In PJO she was strong, independent, intelligent, and just a character that I appreciated. But now she's clingy, insecure, appears to be extremely dependent on Percy, and at times makes the stupidest decisions. Maybe it's not Annabeth I dislike. No, it's more like I dislike her relationship with Percy and what it turned her into. Rick Riordan is making it appear as Annabeth relies heavily on Percy. TOO heavily. Like without him she can't make any rational choices. She's overprotective in a way that if ANY girl shows interest in him she'll hate her. Now if Rick Riordan had done this differently, their relationship, differently I might have liked it more. Not liked it maybe but dealt with it (because to begin with I really didn't see the point of pushing them together, a girl and a boy can be friends with each other without it becoming a relationship).

Exactly! Percy and Annabeth aren't right for each other at all but RR ships them SO MUCH that he has turned their relationship into something horrible. I'm sure he didn't intend to do that and I'm not sure he even realizes it. It's just Percy and Annabeth are just wrong. They are so different and yet, also not the opposites attract kind of adorable. I think I would've liked Annabeth if she weren't with Percy because I simply worshiped her in the first three PJO books and Percy and Rachel would've been cute :)

Ananth Annabeth's fatal flaw is deadly pride after all, so you can't blame her for that. But SOMETIMES she relies on Percy a BIT too much.

Kamiko It's so sad to know there are people in fandom that dislike Annabeth. No offense, of course.

You are one lucky person if you don't know who Bella is! Gods, I wish I didn't know either :/

message 81: by sim (new) - rated it 5 stars

sim I don't mind if it is :D. Let me know when I can start my rant!

Lena I really likes Annabeth...I don't hate her.

Kristin Sometimes I hate her, but it is mostly because she acts like a brat and I want Percy for myself !

message 84: by Natalie (last edited Feb 25, 2014 03:39PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Natalie Annabeth is one of my favorite characters of all time, but I can understand how many people dislike her. People have a hard time with characters like Annabeth, who are realistic in the sense that they can sometimes act like a complete jerk. Annabeth has flaws that hit very close to home: jealousy, pride, a tendency to be more than a little moody. But, Annabeth does have her reasons. After all, if a beautiful girl who was, in essence, your polar opposite, showed up out of the blue, falling for the guy you adored since you were twelve, would it piss you off? Absolutely. And if you lived in a world of monsters, would you be paranoid and angry when your best friend shows up with a monster in tow, especially the species that killed your former best friend? Yep. If you had an IQ up there with Einstein and extreme power and performance in nearly every activity ever, you would probably have a little bit of an ego too.

Something people tend to forget about Annabeth is that her past was horrible. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) she's ever loved has left her, and death is a standard part of her world; yet people still blame her for being possessive of Percy.

I do understand why people dislike Annabeth, but one thing that I cannot stand, though, is when people say Annabeth doesn't love Percy nearly as much as he loves her. Seriously? I don't know what you call dedication, but she took a poisoned knife for him, and never stopped searching when he disappeared.

Every person has a different opinion, but I personally love Annabeth despite her abundant flaws.

Rachel Jackson Natalie wrote: "Annabeth is one of my favorite characters of all time, but I can understand how many people dislike her. People have a hard time with characters like Annabeth, who are realistic in the sense that ..."

Totally agree with you. Annabeth is a strong and seriously smart demigod with a horrible past. She has her flaws but I love everything about her because I feel she is real and relatable.

Julia When you start a post with "Am I the only one..." the chances are good that the answer is no.

Kamiko No offense, peoples, but I'd like to see how you would turn out with betrayals and death in your life. I seriously doubt you'd be cheery.

Julia Katie wrote: "That scene was horrible"

That scene was supposed to be horrible. It was a form of torture, meant to torture Ron Weasley. Torture is always horrible for both the recipient and the witnesses (unless the witnesses are psychotic). The more compassionate you are, the more hurts to watch.

I suppose I can't blame you if you choose not to ever watch that movie again. It's the reason I won't watch certain horror movies.

Julia Rabia wrote: "Does anyone find it crazy that we started talking about how much we do or don't hate Annabeth to Harry Potter to Temeraire?"

Well, this is a little judgemental but how much you hate someone is hardly worth talking about (or thinking about, really). Harry Potter and Temeraire are both more worthwhile subjects. So I'm actually a little impressed that this discussion has diverted in that direction.

Kamiko I've never heard of Temeraire

message 91: by Ananth (new)

Ananth Yeah but seeing that scene was traumatizing because I saw that making out scene when I was 8 or 9.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

I love buttons. :)

message 93: by Ananth (new)

Ananth Do you know real people with gray eyes?

Kamiko No I wish I did

message 95: by Ananth (new)

Ananth I wish children of Hermes had real powers.

Kamiko They are good at pranks. Even though that may not be as awesome as the other demigods, I think they're better than the Aphrodite children that can't charmspeak weel

Kamiko *well

Natalie Ananth wrote: "Do you know real people with gray eyes?"

Sort of. Most of my siblings have gray-ish eyes. My eyes shift between shades of blue, but sometimes they end up a gray color.

Kamiko COOL!!!!!!!!
