Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Just 61 more episodes to go! Hehe...that's cool, I like having a big series to pace myself through.

That pasta looks yummy!

message 252: by Felina (new)

Felina That sounds good too. I need to go t the store but I'm dreading it. I hate the store but I'm craving Captain Crunch.

message 253: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I really have to give Breaking Bad a try...

message 254: by Felina (new)

Felina Do it. Do it. Do it!

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I was gonna try and catch Orphan Black on Netflix, but they don't have it on streaming. Amazon has it for streaming, but not for free.

I feel like the only person with no interest in Breaking Bad.

message 256: by Felina (new)

Felina Breaking Bad doesn't seem like your thing.

I disliked it, myself.

You're not. Hubby loved the series, but I had no interest in watching it. Same with Game of Thrones..I watched the first episode, and part of the 2nd and decided it just wasn't for me. The only scene I wish I had seen was (view spoiler).

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I have a sort of morbid interest in Game of Thrones, but not an actual one.

I only started watching Breaking Bad to see what all the fuss was about but I've ended up really getting into it (I had the same experience with The Wire actually). Although I can quite easily see how it wouldn't be the type of show that everyone would enjoy.

I don't even have that.

I've been trying to figure out what it is about me and this grimdark fiction. I'm starting to settle on two things.
1. I am wussy
2. I read for escapism and I'll take my escapism with a large helping of unrealistic. :)

I'll add 'saw' vs. 'seen'. My coworker loves to use 'seen' for everything. Drives me nuts.

Nyssa | 2023 comments Numbers 6, 13, and 17 drive me insane!
Another one, that I heard all the time when I lived in Texas, is "might could"; as in "We might could do that." Or "We might could go to the store."~ *shudder*.

I do have to confess, however, that I've apparently been saying #4 incorrectly, my entire adult life.

message 268: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I'm very guilty of saying "like", constantly. My mom hates it.

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Oh Nyssa - I live in Texas now and yesterday I heard myself say might could.

*shame*

message 271: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments Another Texasism, which actually cracks me up, is "all get out". "It's raining like all get out." I still don't quite understand that phrase.

message 272: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I picked up saying "as yet" from somewhere and I can't seem to break it.

message 273: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments Lol. My grandmother is from Texas and I'm pretty sure I've picked up on some of her sayings.

We say that in NC...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Several of those bug me...and my daughter HATES, "I could care less".

On the other hand (there's one) the phrase "old timer's disease" started out as a joke. I can't believe that people think it's correct.

sigh.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments We say "all get out" in TN also.

message 277: by Felina (new)

Felina I say could care less all the damn time. I know the right way but it just pops out wrong. Drives me nuts. And I say like to much was well. That is more being a teenager in the 90's though.

message 278: by Felina (new)

Felina I also say 'Usta-could'. 'I usta-could play The Piano Man on the piano but I don't remember it anymore.' I'm not even from the south.

message 279: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I admit that I use sorta instead of sort of. Also wanna, gonna, hafta, shoulda, coulda, woulda and probably several others. I know they're wrong, I just don't care. ;)

I also always heard "another thing coming" and never realized it was wrong until this list.

And all get out is recognized by the dictionary, so you're good to go. ;)

Definition of ALL GET-OUT

: the utmost conceivable degree —used in comparisons to suggest something superlative

First Known Use of ALL GET-OUT

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments No I stopped saying that to...of course I still say, "cool" but "cool" transcends time.

message 291: by [deleted user] (new)

I hate sleeping in strange beds (which is a bad quirk to have when you love travel as much as I do). I've pinched a nerve that is right next to my shoulder blade and now it hurts to move my right arm, or take a deep breath. Apologies for any slowness in posting in the next couple of days!

message 292: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I did the same thing a week ago. In my own bed.

message 293: by [deleted user] (new)

Yowch. A friend of my mother's broke bones in both of her feet by getting out of bed recently. Beds are hazardous things!

I did something similar once, also while sleeping. I actually had to wear a sling and get physically therapy for a few weeks.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I put my arms to sleep and I get cricks...

message 297: by [deleted user] (new)

Now that's an unfun way to wake up...

I dislocated my shoulder by reaching up to a bookshelf over my head when I was 20 or so, a couple of years after my arthritis kicked in. It wasn't even a heavy book!

(And to illustrate my book-loving priorities -- I managed not to drop it.)

Ouch!!

MrsJoseph (taking back my data & giving GR the middle finger) wrote: "I put my arms to sleep and I get cricks..."

One night I fell asleep on my arm and it proceeded to go completely numb; like dead weight numb (no pins & needles). I woke up (probably to use the restroom) and completely freaked out.
