NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o
I just reeeaaalllyyy want an epilogue even though I know he's not gonna do it but I still hope. Hope is the one beautiful thing that left Pandora's box.
Kevin and H99, oldies. I didn't know about it I had to search it up.
Yeah I basically grew up with these books. I've read the Lightning Thief as a class book in 4th grade. We had a Greek party and dressed up in togas and we role played and played Lightning Thief jeopardy in my class. We did an act and I played as Athena. I had a tests and assignments on the book and my class watched the movie together next year (this is when I fell in love with Logan Lerman, so cute). I cannot possible hate these books when they have given me so many beautiful memories. It would be sad to give this book low stars when every time I think of it, I always think of the awesome memories I had in 4th grade.
Haha xDD When I first read what you wrote on here I thought you were in your 20s, you write so adult like and professional and you're just one year older than me. I'm just here like: potato.
Yep my memories were pretty awesome xDD
Wait wtf you're a YEAR younger than me?? Oh my gosh I would have not expected that. Mind fart O__O Okay give me time to digest that, thanks.
WAIT WHAT? Okay I'm sorry if I'm overreacting but seriously. You're freaking thirteen and you sound like a 20 year old.
Okay wait hold up. This is a good thing. I'm not the youngest. I'm older than someone. YES, my dream has come true. And here I thought wittle little H99 was 16, HAHA. You're thirteeeeeeen. Okay wittle wittle H99-ie. You wittle thing, you.
But it's also a sad thing because now I feel extra stupid than usual. A person younger than me sounds more educated than me, I wanna cry. I wanna be like Annabeth, blonde and smart.
Mind fart.

Rick:
" A. Here's my statement concerning Nico in The House of Hades:
One of the most important reasons I became a teacher was to advocate for marginalized children – those who are bullied or misunderstood, those who feel lost and alone. As a middle school student myself, I certainly felt that anguish. As a middle school teacher, it was critical to me that all my students saw my classroom as a safe, supportive environment where they could be honored for who they were and express themselves without fear.
I’ve taken the same approach with my writing. It’s essential to me that young readers find a variety of relatable, positive role models in my books. Every child can be a hero. No child should be shamed or shunned for being different.
Nico’s sexual orientation became clear to me the longer I wrote about his character. It was not something I planned. I had no agenda. But when I realized this was a major part of his life experience and the reason for so many of his difficulties with the other characters, it would have been a disservice to his character, the plot of the books, and all my readers simply to sweep the issue under the rug and pretend it didn’t exist. Turning a blind eye to children’s needs is never an acceptable answer.
I’ve been lucky enough to teach all sorts of students – fifth grade to twelfth grade, rich and poor, from numerous ethnic backgrounds, with diverse religious traditions and a variety of learning differences. I’ve also taught gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. Some self-identified as early as elementary school. Some came to terms with their sexual orientation later in high school. Most had a hard time during the middle grades, which are tough years for any child. All my middle school students enriched my classroom. They made me a better teacher and a better writer for children, and they all deserve my support.
I am committed to writing appropriate books for the middle grades. This means no bad language, no gratuitous or explicit violence, and no sexual content beyond what you might find in a PG-rated movie – expressions of who likes whom, holding hands, and perhaps the occasional kiss. The idea that we should treat sexual orientation itself as an adults-only topic, however, is absurd. Non-heterosexual children exist. To pretend they do not, to fail to recognize that they have needs for support and validation like any child, would be bad teaching, bad writing, and bad citizenship.
Having said that, a good book, like a good classroom, should raise questions, not insist on a particular set of answers. It certainly should not ignore difficult questions. Whatever a family’s moral and religious beliefs on the topic of sexual orientation, I hope The House of Hades will provide an opportunity for parents to talk to their kids about what they believe, and why they believe it. Most importantly, I hope the story continues to entertain and keeps kids reading!"
-end- (From the FAQ section of Rick's site)
Hope this clears some people's minds and/or questions. I, personally, agree with this. Do you think that middle school kids aren't going to be exposed to this? I was amazed that so many think that most kids don't know what it is to be gay. I've known what homosexuality was since I was about 13, and I grew up homeschooled all my life! (And no, no one in my family is gay - unless you count myself, which I'm not gay, but bisexual, and I've only really -known- since late last year - and I'm 16)

Forgive if i'm wrong but wasn't hope left in pandora's box? Didn't that fire titan want Percy to release it to signify that he is surrendering?
Oh my gosh I'm so stupid. I was talking about the original myth of Pandora's box. I thought hope was released in the original myth, but apparently not from the research I just did. Sorry, folks. Avalon being a potato, LOL. I have my potato moments (most of the time).
@Natasha Totally agree with you ^^ In first grade I thought this girl was pretty and then I thought I was gay, but I'm not LOL I was stupid. So yes I knew what homosexuality was when I was 5. Also I had a teacher named Ms. Germaine, but I thought her name was Mister Maine which made me think something like "is she one of those peepull who get da surgeries to make dem be da opposite gender?" So yes I knew about transgenders when I was 5. I was also watching a show where a woman was pregnant and I said to my mom "who did she do it with?" So yes I knew about sex at 5 years old. People need to understand that kids know about these kinds of stuff at such a young age, that they're not stupid. They pick up in things anywhere. Telling kids that homosexuality is for adults is extremely stupid because kids learn about their sexuality at that age.

WAIT WHAT? Okay I'm sorry if I'm overreacting but seri..."
LOL!!!!!!!!
Isn't hope like the harshest burden to give to mankind? It's delusional, it made the people believe that things will get better. By giving them hope it's like giving them disappointment after the hopeless (geddit?) struggles. Hope is the cruelest evil of all.
The Series of Unfortunate Events was awesome. And the longer the better Yubrine doesn't everyone always wish for books to be longer? ITS A GOOOOOOD THING :D You're missing out on Harry Potter if you're not going to read it because it's too long. I do not wish for you to miss out Miss Yubrine, I insist you read the books. I insist. And then you can join the fan club and be a Slytherin like me :)

A lot of us(me), still believe that Rick was pandering and changed or made a statement to put his actions in a better light, I've read a lot of books with gays as some main/minor protagonist and you didn't think anything of it because they didn't make such a big deal out of it and it actually melded well with the story.
Rick however, made an entire scene(which I still believe was added after the book was completed) about Nico and the crush. If Rick went around it differently it could have flowed smoothly but he didn't, I never saw people saying they were going to drop authors I read before because someone was gay in their books.... although it could have to do with this being a children book and parents being the ones giving their kids these books and the books I read are young adult upwards.

Nope, but there is a forum I go to that post these hilariously ridiculous ludacris posts from a tumblr channel(is that what you call them?)
It usually starts out with Dear Cis people, when you read those you see the evil/dark underbelly of the lgbt(whoever it's spelt) movement, these people are nuts. They basically saying they should be able to get away with what they want and if you reject you're an homophobe.

YAY! You'll try! Which probably is giving me false hope (geez, I talk about hope a lot). But I'll take it. It's better than nuffink.

You're a Slytherin? I'm a Ravenclaw. Are you on Pottermore?!

Oh my gosh, you are so missing out! Harry Potter is really long, but it is SO worth it! And, because the area I'm posting this in, I'm probably going to get fried by someone stealing Zeus' Bolt and using it for saying this but... I personally think the HP books are even better than PJO. *dodges lightning*
You simply MUST go read them! They are the best books you'll ever read (outside perhaps PJO, but that's a matter of opinion). xD

Google Dear Cis people idk if you will see the crazy ones I saw but you might get it and no I'm not a"homophobe" but I will not let somebody do what they want to me, which some of those posts say.

Yeah... I don't know. Perhaps he could have done it better, but I still think some people are overreacting quite a bit. It sounds to me like he made it a big deal because it really IS a big deal - this IS a kid-friendly series, and you can't just ignore the subject of homosexuality. Like Rick said, there are kids in middle school and junior high or high school who are struggling with their identity, and having a book that is focused toward them that actually addresses the issue instead of skirting around it is bound to help these kids who are struggling. It gives them a role model. I can see both sides of the argument, but I still think at the end of the day, this is a good thing.

I gave it 5 stars because it was just like all of Ricks books. Amazing. I loved every part of it, even though some parts pissed me off but hey, what kind of book would it be if it doesn't make you feel every emotion, not just happiness. Also, we got to see more character development for most characters, not just Nico. Franks transformation. Pipers inner strength. Leo's love struck side. Jason's caring moment. Hazels, um hazelness..? Of course, Nico's intense secret. We met Calypso again after a looong time and we got to see her sassy side, lol. We got to see how deep Percy and Annabeth felt for each other by being stuck in Tartarus together. We got to see new characters, like Bob and Damasen. There was just a lot and HoH made me experience these emotions that I haven't felt in a Lon time. Personally, the HoH had a lot to give and I know that I feel like there were a lot of loose ties but hopefully Rick is gonna tie it up in the BoO because if he doesn't then oh boy, I'll be one pissed reader.
