The House of Hades

NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o

So anyone who disagrees with you is pathetic? How mature of you.

Instead of petitioning for Annabeth's point of view (It'll be the same story except for different feelings and a few scenes that Percy didn't see [Those would be interesting]), you should maybe try to get RR to write annabeth's adventures before she lived in Camp Half Blood. Or write some other books providing background for each character and what they did before they went to the camps.

Exactly! I don't see how people can put Percy and Nico together.
It's not like Percy ever had romantic feelings for Nico anyways. He wouldn't break up the strong relationship he has with Annabeth just to be with Nico. It's not going to happen. Percy sees Nico like a little brother. I love you to death Nico, but it won't happen.
Nico says he "had" but he still reacts to Percabeth moments. I hope he gets over it quickly. Remember at the end of HoH when Percy and Annabeth were talking and Hazel said that Nico looked resentful or something? Hazel thought that it was because he went through Tartarus alone and Percy and Annabeth had each other. I'm pretty sure that was not the reason why he looked so resentful. Also, when he was shadow traveling or something, he was holding Percy's hand and when he noticed that he was still holding it, he let go quickly. Poor Nico, he better get a happy ending.

Yeah I have to admit I love Percico fanfics and especially the fan art. Too cute >///<

Sea of Unfulfilled Hope... Nice :D

He is a demigod pushed forward 70 years into a world he doesn't understand, where everyone around him is scared of his presence and avoids him. Nico is a loner because he isn't accepted anywhere but the underworld, and his sadness comes from the death of Bianca, his only family and the one person who could truly love and accept him.
Nico also holds a lot of pain, being the son of Hades, yet not being able to help his sister. Then Nico loses her again when she is reborn, right as he figured out how to get past death and bring back dead souls (Hazel)
For me Nico having a crush on anyone seems far-fetched, and having his crush on Percy be the reason that Nico is sad, bitter, and avoids everyone just isn't what his character is about.
I'm fine with Nico being gay, and maybe I'd even accept him having a crush on Percy (though the death of his sister, and all their previous encounters don't really point to that), but where Rick loses me is where Nico's dark personality stems from hiding his secret. I'd rather it just be out in the open, where no one else even points out that it's unusual and it didn't change Nico as he realized it.

Maybe a part of my reasoning is that everyone can relate to Nico losing Bianca and to his feelings of being an outcast or unaccepted/unwelcome but a lot of people including myself can no longer relate to Nico's pain and cannot imagine what he went through.

I'm not saying that Riordan shouldn't be trying to spread his message, or that all those other people shouldn't get their chance to connect to Nico's character; I just personally would have preferred the story without Nico's sexuality driving his isolation and resentment.

The fuss is bringing sexuality into the story, yes gays are humans too but to distinguish between gay and straight you have to take sexuality into context.(view spoiler) I'm just pissed off that ever story ever also has some romance in it... why? Even books that started off without that stuff eventually developed it in the series down the line.

... Were you talking to yourself there....?

^Everything there quoted there 100% nods.
I've been reading the Percy Jackson books since I was young, I'd say its been 7 or 8 years since I've read the first one. That being said, I do vaguely remember thinking in both The Titan's Curse and The Battle of the Labyrinth that Nico might have had a crush on Percy. I don't remember specifics, but there were a few scenes that made me think this. I've been wanting to reread them to find these now that I've read the recent books and figured out that my assumption was actually true, but I haven't gotten the chance yet. I think one of the scenes took place on a hill or something and involved a campfire (I may be wrong, but that's all a can remember, its been years since I've read them). If anyone has any idea or if this strikes some resemblance to an scene that may relate, please tell me; I've been looking up summaries online and such and sadly have found nothing relating to what I remember.
I'm completely ok with Riordan introducing this into the story, and since I've assumed this of Nico for a while, it really doesn't change a lot for me. Nevertheless, I was still surprised because I have told a few of my friends of my assumption in the past and they kept on saying that I was crazy, so I just kind of pushed the whole idea of Nico having feelings for Percy out of my mind. I'm just curious as to how Rick will bring this into The Blood of Olympus and how Percy will react (if Rick decides to have Nico confess his feelings, which I both assume he will and hope he does because I feel like it would be stupid not to).
As for everyone else's opinions on this little addition to the storyline, I understand that everyone views it differently and respect everyone's thoughts about it. No one's the same and I don't care whether or not people think positively or negatively of the matter; this is just how I viewed it. :)

Will people come up to me and ask if i am gay because i don't share their excitement for interacting?(view spoiler)
(In my opinion)Anyone who says they "knew" Nico was gay or that "it all makes sense now" wanted Nico to be gay(subconsciously)(view spoiler) and anyone else is doing(i forgot what it's called, its where you make excuses or find points to say "look see there is an example of where it happened", its like making excuses for an author. My brain is off today).
Percy is definitely NOT dying. He's the main character. I've seen some things that might lead to Annabeth's death but I don't really think it's going to happen. She's Percy's girlfriend. How is Rick going to show Percy's grief in one book along with a lot of other things that should happen? I think Nico's death is likely because a lot of tragic and sad things happen to him so I feel like Rick is just going to kill him off but I don't want that :(

I almost did not recognize you there
If they all die together, then Rick would be the ultimate troll. He's a pretty mean person, but he's not THAT mean.. I hope so.. I grew up with these characters. I don't want them to just die after the adventures they went on and the obstacles they faced. I would just scream if they died after ALL they have gone through.
Lol you didn't recognize me cuz I changed my pic I guess.

Guys don't talk about their deaths, you're going to jinx it :(
You never know what Rick does in his spare time.. Okay that's a creepy thought. The fact that he MIGHT (doubt it but still) be reading this thread.
LOL that last paragraph made me laugh xDD And yeah Rick says stuff like he didn't watch it because he doesn't want it to influence his writing (which is true) or whatever the reason was but I think he just doesn't want his eyes to burn while he watches such a horrible movie. I still can't believe how they ruined it.

Also seeing as how America is America (view spoiler) i mean you people love to make those things.

I think this is great. It seems that Nico had a crush on Percy, but he's getting over it due to the obvious that Percy is already in a relationship, which shows maturity. Unrequited love, a fear of not be accepted, being insecure or frightened about sexuality, losing loved ones, being lonely, feeling anger, these topics are so crucial for many souls of all ages to understand and relate to.
When J.K. Rowling mentioned Dumbledore was gay, I thought that the move was classy and brilliant. (I think she said something along the lines of, "If I'd known you all would love it so much I would have announced it earlier") It's nice to see this topic slowly becoming more and more accepted.
I'm an independently published author and I try to include a diverse cast. There's always several characters of differentiating ethnicity, religion, sexuality, race, weight, ect. It's hard to cover them all in each series, but it's nice to see the diversity. I'm glad I can write in a time where other authors of all types and genres are broadening horizons.
I wonder if Nico fancies anybody aside from Percy? Or if anybody fancies him? I see potential that Rick could make Nico's ascent into a relationship very awkwardly charming. Can you imagine Nico's response to being wooed? It could be hilariously sweet.

As for the revelation coming out of nowhere, welcome to the real world! Hundreds of thousands of family members feel the same way when a close relative “comes out.” They too saw no “evidence” of that family member’s homosexuality. Those who are arguing this point against Nico’s sexuality are stereotyping and lumping homosexuality into a “type.” In reality, I bet everyone in this thread has met many homosexuals and didn’t know it. Like heterosexuals, homosexuals have all types of mannerisms, interests and personalities. They don’t all sashay down the street singing show tunes.
I re-read the series after finishing House of Hades, and while there isn’t anything blatantly obvious about Nico’s crush toward Percy, there is absolutely nothing that would paint him as a heterosexual either. In fact, his behavior toward Percy can be easily explained as dealing with an unrequited crush. Yes, it could have been the result of other reasons, but the author has decided that Nico is gay, and his behavior in previous books DOES accommodate that revelation. Those who don’t accept it simply do not want a gay character, so they refuse to believe that his past behavior in the series can lead to this revelation.

Actually, I think it was obvious in the House of Hades that he isn't anywhere near getting over it. The fact that he almost bursts into tears when he sees Annabeth and Percy holding hands or kissing demonstrates this. He was previously able to supress these feelings, but his acknowledgement of them, out loud, has made it impossible for him to completely hide it in front of other people now. He was forced to examine his feelings and confront them, but I hope that if Percy discovers this information, he is able to convinve Nico that he doesn't have to run and hide anymore.

They're for everyone."
Well the age average on these are really ..."
I've grown up with these books, I started reading them when I was 11 and am now 16. I think Rick sees that his audience are growing up along with the characters, just like in Harry Potter, so he's added a few relationships as would happen in real life- just because a guy of 14 happens to fancy a guy who saved his life I don't think thats a big deal. A lot of childrens writers have gay characters within their books, like Jaqueline Wilson. I don't see why it should have to be a big deal for children that it's aimed at, there isn't anything innapropraite and he's written it really well.
What I really want to know is if it's relevant to the next book and where Rick's going with it or if it's just a bit of chracter development.

Honestly, I can't wait for the day where my son can come home from school and be like, "Dad, I've been dating this guy for a while now." And I can respond like, "Cool. Awesome. Bring him over for dinner." Same applies to any future daughters, of course. So long as the person they're dating is nice and respectful.
*sigh* I wish they could make a really good House of Hades movie. I'm not a crazy huge fan of the movies so far, but darn it I want to see Nico on the big screen.
Well aren't they making a movie on The Titans Curse? Nico appears in that book so I guess he'll appear in that movie. The person playing Nico better be awesome. I expected the person to play Thalia be horrible but I think the girl who played Thalia was pretty decent for Thalia.

I do hope Nico's actor rocks. I'm not a huge fan of Percy's actor. He doesn't convey emotion as well as I'd hoped. I liked Thalia though. It's a good effort =)
Well I do remember Percy's actor (Logan Lerman) saying in an interview that he'll play as Percy in "all 5 movies" so I suppose that means there are 3 more horrible movies left in their sequence of horrible movies. They should just stop making the movies, it's ruining the books.
Anyways, I like Logan Lerman as a person himself although I don't really like how he plays Percy. I agree, he could have used more emotion. He seems kind of bland in the movies.

I heard rumors that they were going to combine the Titan's Curse and Battle of the Labyrinth movie but I'm not sure...
Oh my gosh, how far are they going to go to make it the number one worst movie ever? Why would they combine those two?! Two entirely different events happen in each. Damn, I'm so mad right now. I'd rather they stop making the movies than make more movies -_-

In writing this I hope I don't offend no one. This just like everyone else comments are my opinions and my opinions only. I just feel that books are books that are written for entertainment not hatred.
P.S to the Heroes of Olympus fans cant wait for the last book!!! Fall of 2014!!

Or maybe we don't want people's dirty laundry shoved in our face, like I said before I don't care what you do, just don't rub my face in it or shove it down my throat.
You think I go around getting kicks off of people's sexual encounters?
Like I said before relationships take from the story(most times), they usually end up with their "love" taken and used against them. Then they do the most stupid things in the name of love to get them back.... then they break up sometime in the future because face it happily eve after are in story books.
An example of this would be Percy giving up Godhood for Annabeth... then having them break up because it didn't work work out(of course Rick would not do this because people would come down on his head, but in the real world it's a huge possiblity ....and before anyone says "but this isn't the real world" I know that.

What about the people that are making a scene about those that don't like it? And saying in no uncertain words that said disliker is homophobic?

As for the homophobic thing, it's a very blurry line these days. Some people are very sensitive about the issue. I mean I'm gay, and certain things bother me more or less than the next guy. Often it's a lose-lose situation.

I can't wait for the future. There will be flying cars and colonies on Mars and lots of books geared toward younger audiences with openly homosexual characters. Maybe one of those days you might decide to poke your head out of the little ignorance hole you've dug yourself and realize that if you continue living your life by rejecting those that are different from you, you will soon drive everyone away with your inability to accept the world around you. I truly hope that by the time the next book of this series comes out, you have learned to see past your 'disgust' of the fact that one of the character is attracted to the same gender. If you choose to continue on with the book series, I suggest a non-biased attitude towards the characters and the author, as they are still exactly the same as they were when you began the children's book series.

Oh please. The enitre series is practically a dating service for the characters. Your opposition to this development is homophobic. Just admit it.

What about the people that are making a scene..."
Its not necessary because I mean this a public comment space. Yes you can say whatever you want but certain comments that say inappropriate things like that RR is a disgraceful author because he is bought something " so terrible" into his writing, or that you aren't going to read it just because it has a gay character. It's not polite to be rude. I believe everyone has the right to have their own opinions but they need to consider everyone's feelings.

Really? just because there's a gay character in the book, you're not going to read it and you're going to rate it one star? You are such a douchebag...
