NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o
The books mature along with the audience.
I'd rather Nico be accepting of the fact that he is gay rather than him hiding it and being the main reason for his isolation and his dark and removed personality. For me those were formed by the death of his sister and by figuring out how the children of Hades are treated in their society. In my opinion Nico being gay and his darker character development both should exist, but one should not be the cause of the other.
Kevin, I agree the age group has matured but I would only say that it has moved up to 12-14 year olds, but 12 year olds can still handle the content. And I agree that the writing is too simplistic but people can still enjoy it.

HAHAHAH omg i'm pretty sure that the Rick won't stick in some doge but honestly if he ever did I would probably crap myself laughing. I laughed forever at the part where Percy imagined the Fates going "LOL NOOB". But yeah, I (mostly) agree with Tyrone. I'm perfectly fine with Nico being gay, I don't want the two to entirely stem from each other, but right now, I don't think it does. It's definitely a part of it but I don't think Rick is trying to cancel out all of Nico's previous despair of Bianca's death by showing that he's gay. I think that Rick was also trying to explain why Nico KEPT secluding himself even after it was clear he was accepted from Camp Half-Blood, like an add on to Nico's angst, because Bianca's death, though terrible, wouldn't have made him leave Camp Half Blood and wander around.

I ship Percabeth all the way (they're my OTP) but I can't help but to love Percico too although it will never happen. I like reading Percico fanfics and checking out Percico fan art (like the one you showed Cherie, so cute!) But I have shipped Percabeth since TLF. I'm sorry Percico, I love you, but Percabeth is #1

I thought that Nico being gay was really brave of Rick. A lot of people have instantly ripped their books because of that paragraph. I think gay kids are probably really relived that a fair number of people still love the Riordan books. I personally love because I really support gay rights. Everyone has an opinion.
As for the whole "middle schoolers are to young to know about gayness," well, I'm a middle schooler. I'm totally cool with people being gay.

Personally, I don't care that he's gay. For all we know, he could be bisexual, it's never stated. Bisexual guys can have crushes on other guys and girls. But it was a surprising move on Rick. I never thought that he would add a gay or bisexual character in a children's book.
But you know, the world is evolving and more gay and bisexual people are coming out, and it's high time for a gay or bisexual character to come out in a children's book.
You know, he is young, but for all we know he's in the hero worshipping stage and confusing it for crush feelings.
It wasn't exactly a shock to me, since I read the spoiler on TV Tropes. I don't exactly ship anything in Percy Jackson, since I read it for the action and myths.
All of these ships need to be sank pronto!!!

I've thought about it and I just can't see them together... I get the appeal because they are kind of polar opposites, but they still deal with the pain of losing a loved one... But other than that their personalities in my opinion just don't mesh. I don't see any chemistry.

I can see Leico because they both seem to have lost a loved one and maybe they would get closer by comforting each other, idk. I just feel like Leo might be the one who can make Nico smile/laugh. Not one of his creepy fake smiles. A real one.

Love, love, love Caleo, Frazel, RachelxOctavian, ThaliaxLuke, and TysonxElla. Also Jiper! And honestly, I ship Leico just as much as I ship Percabeth. I don't really ship Nico with Reyna of Thalia, because LEO AND NICO MUST BE TOGETHER. :)

If Percy cannot love Nico, then Leo will!! As much as I love Caleo, I love Leico too. Also, I ship Jayna more than Jasper. Jasper really pisses me off. I have an infatuation with NicoxReyna and NicoxThalia but it will never happen. And Percico too. But I ship Leico so much. Damn, I ship Nico with a bunch of other people.

I really like Reyna's character. Poor girl always tries to get a boy but they keep ditchin her cough*Jason&Percy*cough. Also I think Jayna would have happened if Hera hadn't sticked her stupid godly nose in the way and make Jason lose his damn memories and be with the idiot known as Piper but whatever. Jayna FTW.
