Tips and things about BookLikes

Yup. I'll be awfully jealous of you in February.

I did not mess with other non-alphanumeric characters at start of post because I did not want to break something on the shiny new groups.
(Wasn't testing anything; I'm just that lucky. I'm also the lucky one who tries to checkout a book in the "big" university library that somehow did not get into the system, that item at the grocery store that needs a price check, ...)

So it might just be a coincidence.

Just mentioning before someone lost a discussion group post.

On some member profiles at BL I see extra lists to the left where blog, timeline, shelf is.
For instance:
Blog
Shelf
Timeline
Profile
Goodreads
I'd like to get links to my Goodreads account and my LibraryThing account posted on BL.
Can anyone please give me step by step directions on how to do that? I'm afraid I am at the still needing step by step directions stage. Thank you very much if you can help. Or, let me know post number if the info is already here. (Chrissie just helped me start a chat thread in that way, but I have a feeling link to outside the site might be a bit different?)

here, try these instructions: http://batgrl.booklikes.com/post/2218...

Here are simple instructions:
1. Dashboard
2. Settings
3. Blog tab
4. Customize
5. pull down the scroll bar to find what you want to add.
6. Save
I think I have remembered that right.

Or add any url/link pages you want by :
(From dashboard) Click "settings" ( upper right, gear shift looking icon).A quick way to get goodreads profile link, right click profile thumbnail at top goodreads (or on touch screens hold down until option to copy appears) to copy url address and delete everything after numbers. For example, link to my profile here is https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/6...
Click "Pages" tab and add a page. Title it "Library Thing Profile" (or whatever you like), give it a file/page name in your blog, and choose "url/redirect"
Put link to your profile on Library Thing or other site then save.

I added a page/menu-choice on sidebar menu to see all my reviews in one place based on a handful of tutorials from others -- screenshots at http://donealrice.booklikes.com/post/... .

Well, I've been on here on and off since joining BL and as confused as a lot, but I will say that HTML JUST clicked as I was going through your screen shots. Thank you Thank you Thank you... :)

I would just like to point out that it wasn't my guide, but one I've found;

But I agree that guide saved my ass as well lol.

Dashboard, on you right hand side, scroll down to All Posts, and click the one underneath: Drafts.

Dashboard, top white square, roll-down menu (the little a for Amazon) go to Bookshelf, write the title hit return. this searcher YOUR own shelf.

The only ways I've found:
1. In the search box at the top, select the bookshelf option, type in the title and if the book is on one of your shelves, it should be in the results.
2. If you've written a review for it, you can search in the search tag/author/book box on the right.
3. Or, you can go to your shelves, sort them in whatever order would be fastest (title, date read, etc) for a search, then look thru the pages.

Select the blog option (instead of dashboard or shelf), and on the right hand side, you can select drafts.

Check on the blog page instead of dashboard, it should be there.

HI-five bb! *raises right hand*"
lol... hi-five right back!

ETA to fix a silly typo
ETA 2: nope, I take it back, Sunny is right. It is only from BLOG that you can access your drafts. sorry.

Maybe the net cut out. I can't find it on my shelves. So frustrating, although possibly not Booklikes' issue. Am going to try adding it again.
Thanks for the tip, guys! I don't feelso, so foolish since I tried this, and it just wasn't on my shelf -_- ..."
did you search your shelves on your Shelf page, in Table View? Search by Date Added?
Sometimes Booklikes can't find my books, and that's where I find them.
I believe there are Gremlins playing with pretty covers. *nodnodnods*

Just in case anyone out there is looking for it for future use.

When that happens to me it is usually because I clicked the buttons on the side instead of the ones up by dashboard.
I E-mailed BL because I'm having trouble removing books (duplicates) from my shelves. I'm sure they'll respond tomorrow.

I've been trying that for some time now and it finally works correctly.

So what did you do to get your exclusivity shelves to show on your blog page?
ka

Or if you set post date to a future date/time.

Well one should know that my way doesn't change the numbers when adding a new book to the shelf in question, so I've removed the number part of the shelves. I do believe that requires some more tweaking of the code, so I've skipped that for now.
I think that should help explaining.

^A little guide - The image is slightly better this way so easier to read.

A couple of questions - I've migrated my library from GoodReads to BookLikes and LibraryThing, but now when I want to add more books do I have to add to each site separately or can I do it once for all three?
Most of my books are showing as the wrong editions - what's the best way to find the edition I like and swap over?
I'm enjoying finding my way around the three sites actually but it does get a bit confusing and time consuming. Do most people eventually settle on one or two out of the three, do you think?
1. Each separately (though not sure about LT's capabilities);
2. Remove the book from your shelf (providing you have not reviewed it!!!) and then search for it, select correct edition, and re-add.
2. Remove the book from your shelf (providing you have not reviewed it!!!) and then search for it, select correct edition, and re-add.

I have never seen different editions for the same book. Please explain where you are searching. Is it from the dashboard? For example: I searched for John Adams by McCullough. Only one edition came up. How do I find the other editions?

..."
Hover over the picture of the cover, or go to the little row of covers just above the 'Get a copy' line.
For books with multiple editions, when you search for the book, you will see under its title "Hardcover", "Paperback", "Kindle Edition", etc. Choose the one that works for you, and voilà!

I must be searching in a different place than you b/c when I hover over the picture nothing appears. Never have I seen the text "et a copy". Where are you searching? I search from the dashboard at the top right, at Amazon b/c they are the biggest. Nowhere does it say "change to this edtion" either.

But sometimes there are many paperback versions and mine is different from those presented. Is there now ay you can use an ISBN number? Rarely have I ever seen an audiobook version and I listen to those a lot!

You know, I won't like you too much come February. It gets really cold and grey up here.
