I'm pretty sure this is something I used to know how to do, but how do you make your background image fixed, while your text, etc. scrolls up and down?

Could someone tell me how to get tags on the bottom of your review/blog posts. I don't see a place to add tags in the table form of the shelf or on the text field when you write the review. I only have found tags on the dashboard, but it is not possible to attach them to a book you have read and want to review!

It's just on the right hand side, under where you tick review or spoiler, about halfway down the column. You can type in a word and hit enter, it'll turn it into a tag. Oh and lucky you posted this, I just found a book on my shelf that you might find interesting!

Another question to all of you. I don't really understand what is on the explore page! I clicked on "biographies and memoirs" found in the column on the left, but all that came up were names of bloggers. Don't I get the names of interesting books that are biographies or memoirs? Or is it that these bloggers read lots of bios and memoirs? I looked at the people mentioned and did not find many biographies, so I am confused.
Those are popular blogs who have listed "biographies and memoirs" as a reading interest (among many others I'm sure).
I don't know if I am clicking the wrong things, but in Explore I clicked English, then Non-Fiction and got up only fiction blogs. So then I clicked English, Blogs, Non-Fiction and got some more fiction and an author. How do I get to non-fiction reviews?
I think those bloggers are ones who clicked those genres as their favorite during setup?
Another question to ask the BookLikes folks for clarification, maybe? I think Susanna may be right, but I confess I'm a bit mystified as well ...

I tried searching Non-Fiction and I got results with tags of 'fiction' as well as 'non-fiction'. I tried searching with quotes and got the same thing.
Overall, though, I like searching via tags instead of using the explore page - I don't have to dig quite as much to find what I'm looking for.

Jennifer, I agree that searching via tags for books of a particular genre is easier. THAT is why I had to know how to add tags to my own blogs! Adding them to all my imported reviews will take ages, so I think I will just skip it. Tags and thematic shelving kind of overlap!

OK, another question. I saw that a BL friend added a book that I thought was good. I saw this on the dashboard page, but I cannot figure out where to leave her a message. I have received messages, and those I can answer, but I do not see where to write a new message. Is it only possible from one particular page?
To answer my own question in message 632: I think you can only leave comments from the dashboard and only at blog posts. So if someone adds a book, and you want to leave a message there that you liked the book, it is not possible. I left the message at her blog post for a different book.
Another way.If you hit the date underneath the blog title and it in't a reblog, it takes you to the original blog and you can like and post comments from there.
If it is a reblog and you want to get back to the original poster, then go to the bottom and hit the link there. That might take you back one time, on the other hand it might take you back to the last reblogger, so then you have to click it again until it gets back to the original blog.

Complicated. There does, unfortunately, not seem any way to comment on a person's adding a book. Only blogs.

Quick is the understatement of the year when it comes to responses from BookLikes! Kasia just replied the following to my email of a few minutes ago:
"Yes, we'll be adding PM really soon as well as discussion rooms to create book groups and book clubs :)
We're also thinking on making commenting the particular book updates easier and more transparent.
We still have a lot to reveal and exciting features to release :)"

totally agree. what's your handle over there?
I think BL are a very small company and they are acting and reacting just as Otis did at one point. Before a company can be saleable for millions it needs to have a mass of reviews and data (us, the members). To get that you have to give people what they want. I do hope that BL can find an alternate revenue stream rather than selling out one day though, but who knows? You might go into business with a wonderful idea and altruistic ideals but very few turn down the chance to become very, very rich and a big name in the business world.

"I agree. But it would also be so very nice if someone actually REALIZED that the value in a review site is... wait for it... THE HONEST REVIEWS!
I don't care if BL sells out later on if the buyer understands the intrinsic value that has been created, and cares for it, making it grow.

It just irks me that GR's (non-)communication is useless and that their handling of the deletions/reviews issue was so abhorrently bad. If I receive that kind of treatment from any other business, I won't use them.
But, your right, it would be good if BL could find a different avenue of growth.

Hey, everyone! Y'all have been so helpful w/ posts about this and that.I swear I combed thru this thread but didn't see an answer (or the question, for the matter). Does anyone know the answers to the following?
(1) If I delete a BL shelf, what happens to the books on it?
(2) Is there a way to batch edit tags? (only recall that function for shelving)
(3) If using Default Blog Theme #1, is it possible to switch sides/columns so that posts/shatever are on left side and sidebar info/links are on right? (not VIP in the scheme of things but it's starting to drive me batty)

(2) - This can be done in Shelf - Table View. Go play around with Table View a lot - it is your friend. If you check muliple books you can put them all on one shelf.(3) - yes! (I always like to switch sidebar to the right because it loads better on phones. Well, usually.) That's under Settings, Blog, Theme Customize.
And I'd love to know about #1 myself, I've never deleted a shelf.

Re: #3, I test-tried to switch by changing the X-left and X-right coding but it didn't work. Is there a different line or section of code which I need to edit?
I added books to another shelf and then removed the first shelf. That was ok, I don't know what would happen if I hadn't done it like that though.

Near as I can figure out, BL doesn't actually keep all the tags you make, just x number of recent ones. I just finished going through all 500+ of my reviews adding tags, and I noticed that ones I hadn't used on the most recent books "fell off" and I had to re-create them when I needed them again. There doesn't seem to be a place where they're stored at all.
But maybe I missed something?

Oh duh, TAGS. I've gotten too used to thinking of shelf name = tag!
Re 3 - it may depend on which template you choose? - I was able to find an area that gave me a choice which side to have the sidebar on. So I didn't do it by code tweak - and of course NOW that I'm trying to find out where this option came up I can't find it. Grrr...
Ah ok, you scroll down and it's the Flip columns option - next to "Hide currently reading" and under the section where you can paste in code for widgets. I didn't always see any changes in preview - I think some of their preview stuff isn't working. After I saved the column switched sides.
I've noticed that people aren't using the default "favorites" shelf. Is there a reason for that? Just curious.

Thanks! Don't recall seeing it, but I'll check again w/ fresher eyes. It may well be a template option and w/ my luck, n/a for #1. :/
@Lee - I did the import option to Booklikes that automatically puts your books into the shelves you had them in on GR - so I didn't notice the Favorites shelf right away. When I did I just moved some books from my other favorites shelf - but it took me a while to get around to it. I'm not really sure what to do with some of the BL pre-made shelves - like the Wishlist shelf for instance. I already have two or three other places to put that info - and on BL it's what I use the Planning To Read shelf for.@Karma♥Bites - that will suck if it's only an option for some templates. But they've got to be giving us some new templates soon - I hope - a choice of only 3 is kind of screaming for additions!

Well I guess we're both insane then! :-) I'm finding it kind of fun, going through all my shelves again. It's a nice way to clean out books I thought I might read in 2008 and now know don't have a chance.
It is kind of fun, actually. (Also I have a lot of time on my hands, and the typing is good for my right hand.)
I'm adding manually too. It was my only option on an iPad.

I've been able to batch edit by switching from cover view to table view.

I wonder if I change my name in BL, is the import not possible? I tried to import my books, and it has supposed to be done, but when I go to my shelf, it's empty.

You can use tags to find posts with the same tag notion, once you click on a tag you'll see: http://booklikes.com/tag/site%20tips
You can also add new Page to your blog where you can add links to your posts: http://booklikes.com/settings/page
We're also planning of bringing new feature where your tags will be transferred into blog categories with posts with a given tag. The categories will be listed on your blog page and will be visible for your viewers.
That is really great. I had asked for a blog feature that had at least one category in the shelves, but lots of categories where the tags will accumulate from everyone will be really great.
