Tara | 596 comments OK, so my overactive imagination just freaked me out! It's about 8pm, I'm coming home from the gym, it's dark out and as I'm walking up to my door I get hit with the smell of baby powder, and there are no babies living anywhere by me, not to mention, there wasn't anybody around. I actually stopped and looked around because I thought there had to be a mistake. WEIRD! So apparently there are Lessers in my neighborhood, I'll keep a lookout for the BDB! [And if I find them, I'm not sharing!:] :D

message 155: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments THAT is HILARIOUS. And you need some relaxation time.

message 159: by Mel (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments LOL Tara. I like how you weren't scared that there might be lessers lurking around, but excited that the presence of lessers might indicate a few of the Brothers, ehehehe.

Wooooh I've added Soulless to my TBR-pile :)

message 162: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments Thanks Heather! Got it! I might hang back a little until after this weekend, I should be done with Lover Avenged by then (I'm currently halfway through Lover Enshrined) and I am really trying to avoid spoilers, but after that, Bring it on!

message 163: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Newly decided...Lord Maccon, Earl of Woolsey, Alpha werewolf of Soulless. Broad and brawny, gruff and difficult, prone to Highland lilting. He also has a tendency to be naked, likes to bite, and is actually quite gentle when he wants to be (but don't tell). He's one sexy beast.

message 164: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Michelle - I picked Soulless as one of my books for the November challenge. After reading your description of Lord Maccon I am really looking forward to it. In fact I am pretty sure I am going to read it first next month. ;D

message 165: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments LOL!! Michelle M! This is at least the 3rd thread I've seen you pushing Soulless!

message 166: by CAYLYN HENSON (new)

CAYLYN HENSON Dimitri from Vampire Academy!

message 167: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Yay, Nita! Enjoy!

Tara, I can't help myself. I'm all about the peer pressure. And it was just so different from all the other UF/PNR we've been reading. It's got all the requisite elements--surly Alpha, strong heroine, daft friends--but it's done in such a new way that it's refreshing.

Plus, I only just finished it. No worries. I'll find a new book to push soon enough!

message 168: by Tara (last edited Oct 23, 2009 08:53PM) (new)

Tara | 596 comments LOL! It only took 3 days before I added Storm Born & Thorn Queen to my tbr list, let's see how long I hold out this time... ;)

What book is Acheron out of?

message 185: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments He is in the Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark-Hunter books. He is in pretty much all of them.

message 186: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments And he's a hottie til his HEA strips him of his balls.

message 187: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments Seriously!... I'm not of fan of her.

message 188: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments That happens in a lot of books, unfortunately, LOL.

message 189: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I'm always amazed when people love her. ::shrug:: To each their own.

The rest are all yum before and after. We have that to be thankful for!

message 190: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments new_user, why is that! Generally, they're all still cops, warriors, alphas, master vamps, etc. Don't they still need to be hard-asses to survive? Grr.

Kenyon only changed the one guy drastically, thank goodness. The rest are softer around their gals, but still crazy and capable around other folks.

Hey, I'm sure that Ash is still totally kick-ass. But at least SHE got the Heiffer Goddess off of Ash's case. Much to the dismay of that certain goddess. I STILL think that the Heiffer Goddess should have been eaten by Simi.

message 192: by Mel (last edited Nov 01, 2009 03:38AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments When I hear about Acheron and Zarek I'm so cuious! But then: I just can't get over Kenyon's (infantile, idiotic, juvenile) writing sytle. I read a short story in Dead After Dark and after an intially good start it degragded to the level of Fantasy Lover. And I want to like her books. I really do!

message 193: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Her writing is very simplistic. But the actual story is good. Since her writing isn't technically wrong or filled with errors, I just concentrate on the story rather than the quality of the prose.

And if you are heavily into Greek mythology, the storyline itself is a good one. She's done her homework!

message 194: by Mel (last edited Nov 01, 2009 03:43AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Yeah, Tara said she's given up on making me like the Kenyon series. I just keep bitching about it. But it's because the premise is so good! Greek mythology, supernaturals, hot guys... what's not to like?
It's the simplistic writing and the unbelievable characters that put me off. I mean: one second they want to kill you, the next second they want to bed you. Like the short story in Dead
After Dark. The heroine has tried to kill the hero, twice. And calls him a filthy animal every other second. She's witnessed his torture. And after five minutes they're telling each other how much they love each other. And her child hood trauma is suddenly erased. And her view of the world changed. Five minutes is what it took. Wow.
Kenyon stretches believability even for PNR terms in my opinion.
That all being said, I'm still going to try Night Pleasures...

message 195: by Tara (last edited Nov 01, 2009 05:51AM) (new)

Tara | 596 comments LOL! That short story does get a little rushed, and it's about the were-hunters which are not as good as the dark-hunters. But you know, the quick change is really standard, even in BDB. Doc Jane- kidnapped and hiding a razor in her pocket, and within the first day and a half she's bent over the sink (wow!), and within 3 days she's in love and doesn't want to let go. Or the same with that short story, by Ward in Dead After Dark- less than 3 days from prisoner to love. Beth, she has sex with Wrath without even getting his name and within 4 days she completely believes him that she's going to turn into a vampire. Or even my man Butch, he arrested Wrath and a week later he's living with him and is best buds with V and has abandoned his life. I'm just saying. :)

I can't help but defend it, but I meant it, I've accepted that you will never love the series. I can't wait for you to try Night Pleasures though... LOL.

message 196: by Mel (last edited Nov 01, 2009 06:01AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Whoaaa Tara. You're playing the BDB-card now? Not fair!
No I know the sudden love and switches from hating to wanting are part of the PNR thing. But it should be done in a believable way. And, eventhough the BDB examples happened fast also, I could still relate to the characters.

(Shadow of the Moon)

"Would you die for me Lia?"
It was her turn to scowl. "Why do you ask me that?"
"Because I would die to keep you safe. That to me is what love is. I want to make sure that this time we both understand the terms. 'Cause if love to you is stabbing me and leaving me to die, then you can keep it".
She choked on a sob at his heartfelt words. "No, baby. That wasn't love. That was me being stupid, and I swear to you if I could go back and change that moment, I would stand there and fight for you...like I promised you I would."

I can't help but have an overly dramatic voice in my head when reading this. And mind you: this was one minute into sex. These two have been hating each other for centuries! And she just tried to kill him for the second time. And stood by while he was tortured.
Gaaaah!

message 197: by Tara (new)

Tara | 596 comments LOL! See there's no convincing you to like SK! ;)

message 198: by Mel (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments LOL. But I'm going to try Night Pleasures anyway :D

message 199: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 53 comments Dimitri (vampire academy)
Patch from (gena showalter)
Edward (twilight series)

message 200: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Oh, Fury & Lia. No, I didn't like the relationship aspect of that story. Fury deserved a lot more. Plus, it doesn't tell you anything about the dark hunters if you haven't read the rest of the series. It's part of the new story arc, which I don't know if I'm keen on yet. It's a bad example, Mel.
