Yeah, I'm in on Ancillary Justice Sword. I'll Add that.

I haven't read any of the Magician books so I'll be passing on that.

I'm still iffy on the Kingkiller novella because I feel it's overpriced. I'll probably try to borrow that from the library, but looks like people are down for that too so I'll add that as well.

message 352: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I am also going to try to get the Kingkiller novella from the library.

Is anyone interested in reading The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear. I was going to wait for the 3rd book to reread but have run out of patience.

message 353: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I did Kingkiller last year, so I'll probably hold off until book 3 is announced.

message 354: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments I am in for mirror empire. Broken Eye as well, Lightbringer series has been on my list a while, should be able to catch up on the first two by then. Lock In - definitely. City of Stairs sounds quite intriguing. Others if I have time...You know I've never actually read any Star Wars novels.

Kingkiller re-read, also waiting for book 3, will probably just read some wikipedia plot summaries before the novella.

message 355: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I'm in for Mirror Empire. Already have it pre-ordered because of Alex's glowing review.

message 356: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I'm a probably on Lock in and a maybe on Mirror Empire.

Kind of annoying they are both late August. Although I'll likely be doing Scalzi in audiobook.

Plus there is Harry Potter in early September. Maybe we should schedule some of these August books for a later date.

It's not really practical to read 3 or 4 at once. I need to go back through the last few posts and list out who wants to read what. Too damn much.

message 358: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Agree to staggering August books...Maybe we see who's in for what reads we can stagger them by # of people in for each read?

message 359: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
So I think that's right. It looks like Mirror Empire is the clear winner. I'll add that for release day and make Alex discussion leader.

Maybe I'll lead a discussion for Lock-In.

I'll leave it up to others about the rest.

message 360: by Bas (new)

Bas (basdr) Since we're gonna do Mirror Empire I'll pass on a New Dawn. I've become interested in star wars fiction though, so thanks to Alex for pointing it out.(I checked it out and there are loads of books out there! I really need to check this out).

message 361: by Sky (new)

Sky Corbelli | 288 comments I'll probably read most of these, but costume-making has eaten up much of my reading time...

Apparently. You didn't even have time to list out any titles...sheesh. I may have to demote you to Sky2. The current Sky2 is putting you to shame! He signed up for everything!

message 363: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I am a maybe for The Mirror Empire, The Broken Eye, Lock In, and City of Stairs. Depends on when we read them.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
With the 2 audiobooks I definitely doing Lock-In as audio. With us doing Harry Potter (which I'll be doing the UK audio of), I'll have to do Lock-In when it comes out most likely (or close to it). If other people are too busy to discuss it then that's fine.

Normally I score all my Scalzi books from SFF for reviews. But I'm not really sure how they'll handle reviews since there are 2 versions of the audio. Will they give the reviewer both copies? Will they get 2 reviewers? Of course it's probably going to

But I'm probably going to pre-order from Audible to get both copies (http://www.audible.com/mt/LockIn) and listen to the Wil Wheaton version first. No idea if I'll ever listen to the Amber Benson one, but I'll take it for free to have the option later!

Geoff (geoffgreer) None of the August books listed above hold much interest for me. I'm currently in the middle of Winter's Heart and I'm not likely to stop with the series while I have momentum.

The books I am excited for in August are The Sixth Extinction by James Rollins and The Widow's House by Daniel Abraham.

Thanks. I just looked it up. Looks like this is a Hachette book (Orbit), so I can't pre-order on the old Amazon. I'll remember to go back on the 5th though. I'v been looking forward to this one. I like Abraham quite a lot.

Also for The Slow Regard of Silent Things whenever you all are ready to read it, no rush.

Mark | 482 comments Is anyone interested in reading fantasy/SF, from the late 70s to the 1990s?

I have a few in mind mainly UK authors.

talking about towards the end of year.

Maybe. It will depend on what and when.

Mark | 482 comments Rob wrote: "Maybe. It will depend on what and when."

message 373: by Bas (new)

Bas (basdr) Some classic novels would be worth considering. I'm curious with what books you'll suggest Mark!

message 374: by Mark (new)

Mark | 482 comments Its going to be interesting, as I am going to have think about availability in other countries, especially with the uk books.

message 375: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (littlelexa) | 77 comments I'm in for Lock In and The Slow Regard of Silent Things. I might join in the classic reads depending on what you decide to read.

@Geoff I have the feeling you linked the wrong Winter's Heart. :)

Maybe I like romance novels with 500 year old vampires. More likely, I wrote that post on my tablet and couldn't check my book links.

That Winter's Heart may be more entertaining than Winter's Heart

I see nothing wrong with that, sometimes I like romance novels with 500 yo vampires myself. You should read it and tell me if it's a good one.

I actually just found it funny that there was another novel with the same name that was so different.

message 380: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Alexa wrote: "I actually just found it funny that there was another novel with the same name that was so different"

Yeah, 4 or 5 different books apparently. Goodreads should probably default to the book that has 50000 ratings and not the one with 150 ratings.

message 381: by Bas (new)

Bas (basdr) City of Stairs looks interesting. I might consider it.

message 382: by Mark (new)

Mark | 482 comments The list will be posted tomorrow as its my last day off before the weekend.

Its going to contain uk and us books. My knowledge of other countries books from this time period is very lacking.

message 383: by Mark (last edited Jul 17, 2014 06:45AM) (new)

Mark | 482 comments ok its a very mixed list, i am not a great reader of sf so i may need to leave that to others of greater knowledge.

The Sword of Shannara
A Spell for Chameleon
The Riddle-Master of Hed
Deryni Rising
To Your Scattered Bodies Go
Drawing of the Dark
The Dragon and the George
The Prophet of Lamath
The Knight of the Swords
The Storm Lord
The Serpent

I've always wanted to read the Shannara books so I would join in with that. I'm not that familiar with the other books though some of these writers do ring a bell.

Wasn't Moorcock the one who wrote the Elric books?

My library has [book:The Sword of Shannara
, A Spell for Chameleon, To Your Scattered Bodies Go and The Sunset Warrior so would definitely jump in on those. Might be up for others if I can find a copy.

I read somewhere that one of the books will be turned into a TV series.

I think I read it on tor.com and The Wertzone as well, here's a link to the wertzone article. It's greenlit by MTV, I don't know what to make of that though... It makes me a bit sceptic I guess.

message 395: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I have been camping for the last week - home for a day then leaving for another 10 days. I haven't had a chance to look at the August proposed reads, but I'll try to join any that are first in a series (or later in a series if I've read the first ones). I tend to really like the books chosen by this group.

I'm hoping I'll have computer access the next couple of weeks so that I'll be able to make some Half a King comments!

message 396: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Is anyone reading The Widow's House by Daniel Abraham next week when it comes out on Tuesday?

I'm really into the series and wondering if anyone else has read it.

He keeps his releases pretty regular, so it'll probably be wrapped up next summer.
