Also, YA pretty much writes itself ;)
I'm not committing to anything right now. Overwhelmed at stuff, and still trying to catch up some of the other group reads yet..
I'm not sure if you all are agreeing to read Half a War, The Fifth Season, or both..

This group has entirely too many reads now. But then, that's what it's kind of meant for, and we have a lot more members.
There is just no way I can keep up with all the reads anymore though. lol.

We still have 3 active reads, and 17 planned reads, and that doesn't cover Oct-Nov yet.
There is a lot of overlap in the next few months. I originally wanted to limit it to 1-2 books/month..but that went out the window. lol.
As long as people want to read and discuss all these books at such a pace more power to them I guess. But I've given up trying to keep pace.
And there are still books I want to read on my own as well, mostly nonfiction stuff and some graphic novels/manga.

I'm still planning on trying the first one. I have a bunch of audible credits to burn. I just may squeeze The Martian Chronicles in first because it's short.
Plus I'm not doing Malazan or Dagger & Coin since I've done those already.

Yeah, I'd rather too many reads than too few.
The idea isn't really for everyone to do every read, but for people to have a place to read and discuss books they want to read/would be reading anyways.
But I still worry about having so many that it overwhelms people out of participating in any reads all together.

When I first started joining groups, I felt overwhelmed at first, too. Everything looked so good and I wanted to join in every single buddy and group read!
I'm pretty active in about 5-7 different groups, but most of them are like this one where members set up different group or buddy reads and you can join in on the ones that interest you and that you have time to do.
By now I know that I can only do 8-10 books max a month, depending on the size of the books, so when I agree to a group read, I have a chart where I mark down the dates. That way I know how many buddy reads I'm committing to.
But, like you Rob, I also have books I want to read on my own, too, and pre-orders that I want to read the minute I can get my hands on them! So, I guess this sounds nerdy, but I schedule those books in, too, ahead of time. So some months I might only agree to do 3 BOM/buddy reads because there are 6-7 other new release books or other books on my shelf I really want to read. (I usually try to push for those to become a groups' book of the month so I can double up then!)
But even with all this said, I do tend to shift things around a bit and be flexible when I see new group reads or a book of the month that looks even better to me than something I've already scheduled to read for myself. But I always keep myself in the 8-10 book range per month because being a homeschooling mom, keeping up with cooking and the house, and slowly trying to put together my first book, that's my absolute limit!

Holy Crap I'm jealous. I'm happy if I do 6, and that normally includes 3-5 of them in audio. If I pass 6 it's because I'm doing something short like a manga or graphic novel.
I don't really recall a big release I was excited to read the day it came out that didn't have at least one of my groups reading it though.
Most of the stuff I do on my own these days are older stuff I'm trying to catch up on and/or outside of SFF all together and I'm never in a rush to do those immediately. I just fit them in where I can.

Lol! Well, 2 of those books are usually audio books. Whenever I have to clean or cook, I usually have earbuds in and am listening to a book and I go to sleep at night listening to an audio book (I just put on the sleep timer). My kids are in gymnastics so that's about 4 hours of reading time right there each week. And I usually squeeze in about two hours a day with reading during breakfast and lunch and right before bed.
When I was younger and single I'd sometimes blow through 4-5 books a week! But those days are over for quite a while now! We also are big travelers, so I can usually get some good reading in during those weeks, too. We just came back from Costa Rica about three weeks ago. Total flying time plus layovers came to about 9 hours each way, so I was able to finish one book each way plus I was able to read three more over the two weeks we were there when my kids and husband surfed and swam.

I guess I'm kind of a reading addict :) I don't watch too much TV.
It kind of sounds like I didn't do anything else when I was in CR, but I swear I did! We went on lots of hikes, riverboat and coffee tours, and I swam a little bit. But I'm a BIG baby and let my husband and kids do the zip lining and surfing.

:P
I lost my 3 day old wedding ring surfing!

I know what you mean, thought the same myself

Don't worry, this happened to my grandmother twice (ok, substitute Florida for Costa Rica, and swimming for surfing) and I am happy to report my grandparents had a very long and happy marriage, despite the loss of rings!

:) I bought the exact ring again on Etsy. Good thing I insisted on white gold instead of platinum since I've lost every ring I've ever owned...after listening to my wife and her best friend say over and over "if you never take it off, you'll never lose it"....Showed them!!! hehe
OK. Its time for me to jump in and be the fun police. Please keep to discussing about future group reads. It's gotten off subject, largely thanks to me, but time to bring that to an end. Thanks.

Maybe for the fifth season. Liked but didn't love her inheritance series. Depends on what else i got going on.
Up for the steel remains in late summer. Tried starting it before but other things came up.

Make a new thread and select it from the drop down. It should be the 4th from the top (counting the "none"/general section)"
aha! Thanks!
