I am just finishing the third book in the series - it is a good series and so far I've liked it more with every book.

I must be the only one who doesn't like Sykes personality. He comes off like a jerk and I've never found that sort of humor funny.

Also, I didn't care for his story in Dangerous Women.

You don't come off like a jerk to me, just a bit excitable. Damn kids.

All you guys and your ARCs. Before long you'll have your own little elite group to discuss everything you read ahead of us common folk.

message 404: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments I like Sam, met him at a few cons...he is young...or maybe I'm just old. He has a lot of energy. I've not yet read any of his books yet...but man are his mom's books kicking butt and taking names. I wonder what it would be like to have a famous author in the family...then go into writing.

message 405: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Anybody want to read Willful Child when it comes out in November?

Michael wrote: "I like Sam, met him at a few cons"

It wouldn't surprise me if he's a great guy, but every interview I've seen with him has rubbed me the wrong way. His sense of humor always comes off as mean spirited to me.

Michael wrote: "I wonder what it would be like to have a famous author in the family...then go into writing."

And of course there is Joe Hill.

Maybe.

Bill | 1596 comments Kaleb wrote: "If it hasn't already been said, may I suggest A City Stained Red by Sam Sykes whose Twitter feed is a bucket of laughs. I just read an excerpt and I'm even more excited for it."

I would be more interested in reading his completed series.

Dara wrote: "Anybody want to read Willful Child when it comes out in November?"

Maybe for me too.

Anyone interested in reading Assail? If not I will probably jump into it next week.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I haven't read any of the ICE books yet.

message 410: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Can't do Assail yet either - just finishing The Crippled God now.

message 411: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Might have to wait a while Esslemont signed on for 3 more Malazan novels this year.

I hope to do a big re-read once Erikson and Esslemont are all done.

message 412: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Here's an excerpt of Willful Child if anyone is interested/on the fence: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/11/stev... (yes, it's from 2012 but that was my pre-Malazan time).

message 413: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments My preorder of Hieroglyph: Stories and Visions for a Better Future came. I am not a huge anthology fan but it contains stories from a few authors I really like. I am a bit booked (hah!) at the moment with other stuff, but was wondering if anyone else planned to read it in the near future

message 414: by Sumant (new)

Sumant | 522 comments Although I have read 2 books from New Crobuzon, I am definitely up for rereading the series in group.

I'm in for LotR after we finish Harry Potter as I have those in audio as well.

If you are careful about spoilers, I'd probably do Black Prism, but if you want to do it as a reread I'm not since I haven't yet.

message 417: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I'm in for both. I recently read The Black Prism so would probably jump in on book 2.

message 418: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I might hop into LOTR but it's not really on my list at the point. After finishing Malazan and now rereading HP, I want to try to read some new stuff.

message 419: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (littlelexa) | 77 comments I think after Harry Potter I could do both. I don't have that many books planned for the rest of the year.

message 420: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I'm definitely in for LoTR and maybe Black Prism.

message 421: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) 5 bucks in the kindle store, shit yeah.

message 422: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) I'm in for Black Prism.

message 423: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) There's nothing between Ancillary Sword and Slow Regard of Silent Thigns (except Harry Potter)

message 424: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I've read the first two Black Prism books and would love to read the third one - it'd be especially fun doing it with this group. I would (of course) be careful with spoilers.

Someone needs to read Under the Dome with me, or I'll never get to it. This club keeps eating up my time..

message 428: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments I'd be interested in starting Week's new series. So yeah, I'm in as well.

message 429: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I am up for both as they are on my list to read. Dates sound good as well.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments Rob wrote: "Someone needs to read Under the Dome with me, or I'll never get to it. This club keeps eating up my time.."

It's a good read. I won't do a re-read, but I read it recently enough that I should be able to join in the conversation.

message 431: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments In the same boat as Michael regarding Under the Dome. I really enjoyed the book but don't think I would be down for a reread quite yet.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Since S&L picked a book I read, I may try to read it next anyways.

message 433: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Anyone have any interest in reading China Miéville? Tor posted a guide to Mieville and I've been wanting to dive into his works for some time now. I was thinking of starting with Perdido Street Station but if there's more interest in a stand-alone, perhaps Embassytown. If enough people want to participate, we could start after Harry Potter is finished (December 1st).

message 434: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments I would definitely be down for Perdido Street Station. I've been meaning to read it for a while now and it helps complete a goal for another group

message 435: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Great! I know Alex wants to read it as well but I don't know if he'll want to wait until December.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I do want to give him a try..but I'm kind of swamped right now.

December 1st *might* work. But I'm not sure. It will depend on a few things.

message 437: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) We could always choose another date. It's no problem for me.

message 438: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
The next few months are always crazy because I travel a lot. So I have a long stretch of audio book time, then little to no audio book or reading time, then another long stretch of audio.

I'm well over my reading goal for the year, and I know at least today I'll be taking the day off from reading.

The new WoW expansion comes out next month and I decided to buy it, so I may take up gaming again for a little while. I haven't been doing much gaming since I quit last year.

Also the remake of Gabriel Knight 1 comes out today, so I plan to be playing that. Possibly all week instead of reading until we start The Black Prism.

Plus there will be the S&L Nov/Dec picks, the rest of the HP reread and whatever I end up reviewing for SFFAudio.

I guess the TLDR would be, I'm stressing about free time atm, and don't count on/worry about me in your planning. lol.

message 439: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Okay, we'll stick with December 1st then.

I have read PSS and it was a mind blowing experience.I loved it so much that I read Scar the next book in this series after PSS.Currently I am reading Iron council last book in bas lag series.I am definitely up for a Mieville read of embassy town. Also I have heard his other works Kraken and king rat are amazing.

message 441: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) Perdido Street Station was one of the worst books i have read and will not read any more of Mieville.
I listened to it on Audio, and while the quality was excellent as always, the narration was not my bag.
The whole thing was just to weird for me.

But i know i am in the minority. As you may have guessed, i will be skipping this one :)

message 442: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Congrats on the new job and new place!

I chose Perdido going by publication order of that series.

message 443: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Should I be discussion leader? I can make the threads and whatnot since I assume you'll be busy.

Not to detract from the thread too much but what position are you interviewing for?

message 444: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Why am I going to ban you? You're discussing a new group read and sorting out logistics about said read, what am I missing?

message 445: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I'll gladly be the discussion leader!

Oh, yeah try to keep that sort of thing to a minimum in general, but I won't start scolding people unless it starts running on a bunch of posts.
