I just finished reading The Man With the Golden Arm. Absolutely stunning. I thought the likes of Hubert Selby Jr. and Charles Bukowski (and who are among my favourite authors) had a lock on this genre and style, but after reading this novel I know see who is the master (Nelson Algren). Be warned it is a haunting tragedy, but a work of such sublime and wonderful craftsmanship.

I know, it really kept you hanging eh?! It's one of those books where the cover is really decieving and you think it will be about something else altogether...a shame because I don't think it has got the atention it deserves.
