LOL Sarah, that's practically Goodreads clickbait! (Yes, I clicked...)

message 13502: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Lol! I definitely have read it. It's much too tempting.

Ryan And I have finished Silently and Very Fast by Catherynne M. Valente. Four stars and a review.

Now I'm reading Wuthering Heights.

message 13505: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Another one of those eerie coincidental things I keep getting. Just finished a reread of The Jigsaw Man in which there is a comparison of the main villain to Tom Ripley (The Talented Mr. Ripley). Now I am reading The Truth and Other Lies where the back blurb compares the (anti) hero to Tom Ripley.

message 13506: by Sarah (new)

Sarah That kind of stuff happens to me all the time. I laugh when people say "there are no coincidences". They must not be paying attention.

message 13507: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I finished Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. Once more, I was again reminded by Faulks of the sacrifice and hardship that the soldiers in WWI suffered. A brilliant and Must Read book 5★

Started The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean.

message 13508: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Oh! I want to read that. Will you post on here when you're done? I want to know of it's good.

I think you'd like it too, Vicki. Will post my review on the embargo date 22nd April

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments Morning, Marianne. I usually steer clear of books where the main character is a writer, but if you're recommending it, I'll overlook that. :) I look forward to your review.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've finished Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. It's about 19th century female fossil collector/ palaeontologist, Mary Anning and her champion, Elizabeth Philpot, amateur palaeontologist. A fictional insight into their lives and, like all books Chevalier, well worth reading. 4★

Mary Anning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Anning

Elizabeth Philpot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabet...

At long last, my turn in the library queue has come for Let Me Be Frank With You by Richard Ford:D

I have been eyeing this one off - my hubby has a Sceince degree and one of his majors was archaeology - in fact a large proportion of our non-fiction shelves cover various aspects of this field. Would be nice to read a fiction book on the topic.

Regina Super busy here, not much time for reading or getting online (shock horror!)

However earlier in the week I did finish Aquarium by David Vann.

Totally confused on what to rate it.
My review:

Hopefully sometime over the weekend I will get time to check out what everyone else has been reading and what they thought of what they read.

message 13539: by Kerrie (new)

Kerrie Paterson | 50 comments I've got a few on the go (as usual :) ) - I'm currently trying to read Dark Horse by Honey Brown. It seems like its got such potential - and its had awesome reviews, but I'm really struggling to wade through the start. I hope it gets better - the start seems really overwritten, but I'm not much for lots of description so that's probably personal preference. Page 33 and we've still only met the heroine. Maybe that's my problem - no dialogue for 30-odd pages save a brief phone call at the start... I shall persevere!

Hi Kerrie, yes I found Dark Horse a bit steady as well and subsequently still haven't finished it. It's sitting beside C. Collin's The Burial, also not finished. If I had time to read in the am, instead of just before 'light's out' I may have read both with more enthusiasm.

I second that. My favourite read of 2014.

message 13545: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I recently finished Matthew Flinders' Cat by Bryce Courtenay which I thought was excellent. It explored some tough issues such as homelessness, alcoholism, drug use and paedophilia, sometimes with more information provided than I really needed or wanted to know, but it was not gratuitous and all appropriate within the context.

On another note, I am now back to Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie which I've been reading on and off for 3 weeks (more off than on!) and am still less than 1/3 of the way through. I'm hoping it picks up soon... It needs to go back to the library in about a week and I'm not sure whether I will bother to borrow it again if I'm not finished by then...

Kathryn, I read Matthew Flinder's Cat a few years ago and also thought it was excellent.

I have Half of a Yellow Sun on my TBR, I hope it does improve for you.
