I finished The Girl on the Train yesterday.I liked it, wasn't knocked off my feet though. I'm quite hard to please at the moment.
Maybe I am too Regina. I have just cast aside The Iron Necklace for the moment. It wasn't holding me. Have now started Family Secrets I always enjoy Liz Byrski's books.I think it's more my style for the time being.

Ha ha. I'm already there with this one, Regina. Haven't met a Liz Byrski book I haven't enjoyed.I relate easily to her characters even if at times I would like to smack some of them, as I did with a couple at the start of this novel.

Dana, I'll definitely let you know what I think of it :-) I am a big fan of whimsy, so I have a good feeling about it :-)
Yes, isn't that review of Doors of Stone a scream? I see it has over 8500 likes - including one from me!
Just finished The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon. A bit of a let down.

Add me to that fan club :)
I have picked up a YA dystopian The Islands at the End of the World by Austin Aslan - only a little way in so still setting up the story. It is his debut novel and there is a second is a sequal planned. The world hasn't 'ended' yet but things are going on in nature which indicate it maybe happeneing. Is set in Hawaii and the main character is a girl (Leilani) who is half Hawaiian and half Calafornian and the full Hawaiian kids are being a bit snotty to her - she also has epilepsy which is why her father and her are leaving for the next island for her medical checkups. And so the stage is set!!!
I read Cargo by Katie Mineeff last night with my review here:

I've just this minute finished The Country Practice by Meredith Appleyard Loved it! I'll post my review closer to publication date:)

Understood, I thought you would avoid it till you've read & reviewed it yourself. As I do.
I didn't use to, until a few months ago reading someone's review spoiled the book for me!! I've learnt my lesson:)
Although sometimes, it's someone else's review that makes me want to read that book, in which case, obviously I've read the review. But hopefully forgotten the actual review & just remembered the reaction? by the time I get to doing my own.

It's only a problem when the reviewer reveals too much of the actual story. Most don't but you never know when it is going to happen!

I had that happen to me with a movie - The Others with Nicole Kidman. Someone told me something very crucial to the plot which took away all the suspense as I already knew what the twist was going to be. I also read a book review (a mystery) where the reviewer said something along the lines of I can't believe Jo Blow was the murderer didn't suspect him at all. Yes they actually gave the name of the murderer in the review!!
I ruined the twist in The Sixth Sense for someone. He started talking about it and I just assumed he'd seen it. So I spilled the beans and he said something like "Well I guess now I don't need to see it."I've never forgiven myself but maybe he was just having a lend of me?
Well, when I'm about to read a book, I never, never, never (did I say never?) read the review... I just take a look at the stars and go for it (or don't...). I can't cope with spoilers... Sometimes I don't even like to read the back cover of the book until I'm well into the story already. There are cases when I even leave the introduction to be read when I finish the book... Maybe I'm a little crazy, too... :)

Oh, no, it was Jo Blow? Thanks a lot, I had that one on my TBR.... ;)

'Fraid so Marianne, and you might as well know that it was Jane Doe that was murdered....although she was never formally identified :O

I finished The Shell Collector. A romance by Hugh Howey??? Interesting.

Sylvia Plath is so wonderful isn't she? You made me reminisce about my younger years when I was obsessed with her. Have you read Ariel a wonderful book of poetry, The Moon and the Yew Tree is my favourite. You have made me want to read all of my books relating to her all over again including one I have yet to get to The Journals of Sylvia Plath. Thanks for your review.

I have had it on my TBR pile for a while - will have to see if I can sneak it into a book challenge somewhere - one that says read a book that's on your TBR pile :)
