R7: Team #1 ~ #1 Bombshells
I'm gonna decide from the books I've got that are on the list...of course! But which one???
I'll let you know later which one I start today!
I think I'll read Dare You To
. (shelved 8 times as book boyfriends)This week's shelf is very contemporary with not nearly as much paranormal activity as normal.
Well I have a few on the list. These are the ones I am deciding for week 2.Vampire Academy
Twilight
Pride and Prejudice
Seduction and Snacks
Those are just a few that I have on my want to read shelf. I will see if I can find one of them and let you know which one I choose.
Judithe, great list of books! I'd go for Lethal Rider - love that series!! Wow, Monica - quite an eclectic list of books to choose from!
That's another one I've been considering grabbing, Regina! Can't wait for your review...like I need to start a (another!) new series, but if it's good...
Looking good so far this week! How are we coming on last week's books? Just one more and we can request our Stamp!!
Judithe wrote: "That's another one I've been considering grabbing, Regina! Can't wait for your review...like I need to start a (another!) new series, but if it's good..."That is exactly why I have put off starting the series.
I'm so ecstatic for a non-Bingo reason, but can't restrain my bouncing-off-the-wall-ness! I'm heading stateside for the first visit in EIGHT years this summer to see family & friends! SOOOOOOOOOO psyched! Whoohooohooooo! Unexpected, but so very welcome! Probably won't interfere with Bingo (unless this is the LONGEST round ever) but so, so excited, I just have to be excited EVERYWHERE! "Grandpa" (aka, my dad) wants to see his grandkids, and is making it happen regardless of anything else (oh, and he wants to see me, too!)
When I settle down, I'll start my book...have a million lists started in my head already! Need to read so I can calm down and sleep!
Judith I am thrilled for you! What a wonderful dad! I know about lists and packing -- fun and stressful. :) How young is your youngest? (just thinking of the flight). Where will you be visiting to?
Wow, that is awesome Judithe!! I'm so happy for you. I know it must be so hard to be away from family. I second Regina's questions!
That's exciting Judithe! Hope you don't get too bogged down with all the planning and lists! I'm terrible at organizing stuff. Okay, have finally picked my free space book. I'll read City of Bones
.It's on the group bookshelf under YA and a few other things. I've had a copy for a few years and never read it so this is the motivation I need to read it before the movie comes out in August.
I've really enjoyed that series, Kate. And I am not a big YA fan. I'll be excited to read what you think of it.
As Judithe is still bouncing off the walls, I'll answer for her - her youngest is 15, so, not so young. LOL.
*grin* I think the hardest part of the trip will be the part where the kids aren't able to use their smartphones...I have this fear they'll be worse than littles throwing a stress tantrum, though maybe quieter!I'm going to Washington State, and still working on dates (looking more and more likely to be mid-September, and you can imagine how absolutely crushed Mr. 15 is at missing school for a week or so...NOT!) Now trying to get passports lined up, and talk about inconvenient consulate hours! Grr. But, all for a very good cause! *still grinning*
Sadly, I have been running around and haven't started my book yet! But I will! And will be finished with it before Mr. R's next visit with a new shelf...hopefully one that will connect one or two of our dots!
Oh...and have the bouncing under control now, sort of...too much gives ya bruises, and is not so good for the walls/ceiling either...
Having just flown recently, I was amazed at how little time my smartphone had to stay off. Just make sure they have their charger with them. That's when it gets really dicey!!
Very true, I fly multiple times a month for work. Electronics only need to be turned off during take-off and landing. American provides free wi-fi on the bigger flights (although it never works for me), other airlines sell wifi for a fee to use during the flight. The cell function just has to be off when your devices are on. For me, I find take-off and landing to be painful b/c I can't read. :)
How is everyone doing?Monica and Judithe - have you picked your books yet for this week?
And how are you doing on your Assassin book, Monica? Let us know!!
Have to check on what the international plans are for the 'phones, too...one more thing to add to the list!Started my book, am reading
as it fits the most other challenges as well!
Great Judithe! It's weird to think that coming to the US constitutes an "international" plan LOL!Is anyone else having problems seeing covers or is it just my computer?
I finished my book and wrote a review and then Windows crashed and I don't feel like rewriting it at the moment. Will try again later.
No, my laptop has issues! My husband is a computer engineer and he's constantly working on laptops and stuff, so this one is mine, but flash will crash and then windows will freeze. Not sure why this happened. I just reboot. But I will write my review again tomorrow. Too bad, it was turning out pretty good!!

Sorry to be the book policeman, but I would really like to be able to get our stamp.
I will be heading out of town tomorrow afternoon. I will have my laptop with me and will be checking in. I will not be around when the shelf is called - that's when the wedding shower is - but I will be on later.

Review:
I loved the third installment in the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley. We first met Mitch Lawson in the first book and he was pretty special. He is even more special in this one. Mara is his neighbor in his apt. complex and he has had the hots for her for 4 years. She has been hiding from him for all of those 4 years due to shyness and a wacky grading system for people which she thinks leaves her at the bottom. Her hard to budge low self esteem, while understandable, is also what keeps this from being a 5 star read. Otherwise, this is a sweet, sexy, and funny contemporary romance.

Review:
I liked this one. One of those stories about opposites attract. I read for characters and I loved the characters in this one - the secondary characters probably a little more than the main but all of them entertained me.
Part of the Pushing the Limits series, Dare you to can be read as a stand alone. Beth Risk - introduced in the first book - bad girl with a dark past gets sent to live with her uncle in the middle of nowhere. It's there that she meet Ryan - the golden boy baseball star who seems to be a bit of a player on and off the field. Enter Ryan's best friends who dare him to get snakry sarcastic Beth to go on a date with him.
It's a bit of a cliché but it was done fantastically. I liked the romance and the way Beth and Ryan grew as characters throughout the novel
I may be changing my book.
is just not doing it for me. There is a factor that is bothering me. I think maybe if it was written by a woman this factor wouldn't be an issue. Ill update later if I change today.
That's not good! I have a copy of Gone on my shelves waiting for me to get around to reading. I'm sorry it's not doing it for you, Regina.
Great review, Kate! I've never heard of this series, but it sounds good. And I'm sorry you are having problems with your book. It's always such a big decision to stop a book. I read a series that's written by a man and it definitely has a different tone to it.
I am changing my book to
My problem with Gone is that I can't get past that there are all these babies, toddlers and young kids who are suddenly just abandonned -- I am having trouble separating myself as a mom from the storyline .. others likely wouldn't have that problem!
I would definitely have that problem, too. When I was reading Game of Thrones, one of the characters is a young girl who is abandoned to fend for herself (for 3 books!) and it made me crazy. I just wanted someone to take care of her.I've heard good things about this one, though.
Just popping by to say I'm finished with my book, Fire, and will get the review up tomorrow. Feeling the letdown when a really good book finishes, made worse knowing these characters that I've grown to love might now even be making a cameo in the next one. Sigh. How's everyone doing? Some switches, but are the reads ya've settled on good?
I am out running right now but ill be back to post my review. I loved my book!! Noah (the hero) reminded me of a younger version of my husband. :)
Leslie I am sorry I haven't been here. I had a hectic week with the end of the school year approaching and the last day was an eventful one. I will tell you that I really appreciate the law enforcement in my community after what happened Thursday this week. Today I did get some time to read and I want to continue reading so I am shutting down the computer to try and make some progress on my books.
I am going to read Pride and Prejudice for the book boyfriend shelf.
Okay have a good night.
Monica, no worries - I have worked at a school and am well aware of how hectic the last days are. Hope everything is okay where you live. I totally understand how RL gets in the way of reading. I am not trying to push in any way, just gentle reminders. But if you think I am getting too pushy, please don't hesitate to tell me.
Great book for book boyfriend!

Book: Noah by Elizabeth Reyes
Review:
I really enjoyed this book! Reading the premise and the set-up alone would never have gottem me to read this book -- a combination of Bingo, friend recommendations and getting the book free from Amazon pushed me to read it and I am so glad.
It is a sweet romance, a wonderful build to a beautiful ending and great sexual tension. I loved the portrayal of Mexican-American culture without an agenda -- just part of the story line and it was done very authentically. I appreciate other authors attempting to represent mexican-american culture, I really do appreciate it -- but it is often not done well. This was done well.
So would you date a man who is 8 years younger than you? Fall in love with him? What if he say you when you were 40lbs overweight and was your personal trainer? My answer to all of that would likely be no -- and so is the heroine's answer in this story. The author did a great job in showing a realistic objection by a normal 28 year old woman to dating a younger beautiful man. These characters were real and just so well written. I loved this story. I heard the next one in this series is not as good, but I will still read more in this series.
Regina, that sounds like a good book but it sounds remarkably like another book I read but can't think of the title, at the moment. Are we ready for another shelf today!!I'm excited!! I will check the thread when I get home from the shower this evening.
Have a great day!!
If you can think of it I'd love to know - I would want to read it. ;)I can't wait for a new shelf, I am holding off on starting anything!!!
Ah, Leslie, just went to check the book stats, and realized I hadn't communicated well. In the post near the front, I meant the links to just our stats to books read for posted shelves so we can easily find them. It's very convenient, but sorry for your hard work...
I think I'll go with Grave Mercy - Shelved 11 times as Strong Heroines.
Looking forward to see what everyone picks for this week :)

Thoughts:
It's taken me quite some time to pick this up after reading, and quite liking, Graceling. I read the preview of the next (this) book there, and didn't particularly like the character I thought it focused on. As I had the book, I knew I'd read it, eventually, but was obviously not so enthused. I read the blurbs on the book as I was deciding which to do for this shelf, and realized it might be quite different than I was expecting.
It was.
This turned into a beautiful love story with characters that fascinated me. Fire is an entrancing "monster", and regular humans cannot, in general, resist her allure (which is not deliberate on her part, just her basic nature as a "monster"). The young King Nash is trying to resist her, and Prince Brigan does. This story is the tale of how they come to trust one another, and fight to save the kingdom torn down by their respective "fathers". The tale has many layers and secrets, and family is at the heart of it. Can children overcome the basic faults their parents succumbed to when those are also inherited by the children? In many ways it is a tale of redemption and discovery, and is beautifully woven.
I'm generally a series reader, and so it disappoints me not to have more stories about characters I've fallen in love with, even if they aren't the "main" ones in future stories. I know the next tale in the trilogy is focusing on the future, and have strong doubts that these characters will appear...(and the characters I loved from Graceling should be back!) but hope Ms. Cashore will surprise me again.
I've gone through the shelf and what I have on hand...
I'll probably go with
because it's the shortest! And I have a lot of RL work to catch up on...sigh! I'd always much rather be curling up with my read...
