I Have been wanting to read all of these for awhile but none are catching my interest right now. I have read so many books on this list and other books I would think would be on the list aren't. Boo!

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I got some reading done today hopefully tomorrow I will have time to read. I have my book for the new shelf. I am going to read moon called by Patricia Briggs.

I am enjoying all 3 books. Will concentrate on the first week book more. Hopefully I will get it done this week.

Dragon's Kiss by Tielle St. Clare
Shelf 3: Strong Heroines
Date finished: 6/16/13
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
This is a freebie I picked up some time ago, and haven't gotten around to reading. It was a fun, light read, and has more smexy peppers than stars!

Lorran, our heroine, has been studying dragons for years in this medieval/fuedal-esque world, ever since her husband was bitten by and became one. He was killed by the dragon slayer, Kei, who is also king now. In a nice turn of karma, Kei gets bitten, and his brother brings him to Lorran for care...until he succumbs and has to be killed as well. For Lorran, it's a chance to study the full transformation process, from bite to becoming the dragon, but it turns into much more than that. The randy dragon emerging has obsessed on Lorran as his mate, and he wants her, all the time. Kei is struggling to remain human, protect Lorran, and protect his kingdom from his twin that wants to take both the kingdom and the woman.

It was an interesting twist and entertaining read, but if you pick it up, be prepared for lots and lots of lust!

No worries, Judithe. I obviously wasn't thinking things through either, because as I'm doing, I was thinking, this seems a little redundant!! And I want this space for keeping track. I will fix it when I get home! Sometimes, I'm a little slow about stuff like this. I am actually quite bright usually!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Good morning team!! Love the shelf. And wow, Judithe - already done with your book!

@Kate, I recently finished #2 in the Mercy Thompson series and am now officially hooked. Can't wait to get to the next one!!
@Monica - glad you are enjoying your books. I'm looking forward to your reviews.

I will start looking for my book - I'm sure this will be pretty easy!

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I saw all those mercy books and wished i was starting over.

I really wanted to be starting that series over!

Two books that deserve to be on the list and weren't and I wish they were Tarnished by Rhiannon Held Devil's Punch (Corine Solomon, #4) by Ann Aguirre

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am actually going to read Saving Francesca for this shelf. I am on the app so I can't do the book in the post. sorry.

message 213: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I am actually having a struggle finding a book. I was pretty sure that the next Cat and Bones book I was reading would be on there, but no! It was shelved as every variation of kick ass heroine you could think of, but not strong heroine. I might just go ahead and read the next Mercy Thompson book, since it's available at the library - but it wasn't in my plan for the month. Sorry - just venting!!
And Judithe - I definitely think you made the wisest choice!!

message 214: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I had the same struggle!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Okay, I fixed the post! Duh - what was I thinking! And I will update it after Mass. And keep looking for my book. My mom is like - you're doing what?!?

After looking at some of the shelf names - people come up with some crazy stuff!! I do have a lot of shelves, but they are pretty straight forward.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I think I found what I'm going to read. I need to re-read Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward for another challenge and I found it on the list. So at the moment, that's my book.

I'm still missing some book choices for this week's shelf. Please let me know if you've made a decision. I changed my mind because a book became available at the library. I will be reading The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2) by Kelley Armstrong this week.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Leslie up in post 202 I posted my book. I was on my phone so I couldn't post the cover. I plan to read Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs for this weeks shelf.

Going to bed to read. Have a good night all.

OH I am really enjoying Pride and Prejudice and Bourne Identity.

message 223: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks, Monica! Obviously my head has not been completely engaged. And so glad you are enjoying your books. Have you ever read P&P before? Are you a Jane Austen fan. Have you seen the BBC production as well as the Kiera Knightley version? So many questions. I love Jane Austen and I love to watch movies of her books. And I remember loving The Bourne Identity when I read it so many years ago. I at one time, read all of Ludlum's books. I should revisit them at some point.
Speaking of which, I watched A Room with a View last night with my daughter. E.M. Forster book. So good!! Highly recommend it if you like historical movies.

message 224: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments hi Leslie. I have never read P&P so this challenge is getting me to read it. Not sure if I am a Jane Austen fan so far so good. haven't seen any of the movies or shows want to read the books first. well going to get some reading in before bed.

message 225: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Oh, wow Monica!! You are in for a treat. You have so much to explore!! There are some other JA books I actually like better than P&P that I highly recommend you read if you liked it. And then gather all the BBC productions on Netflix and watch them. I actually like to watch the movie of her works before I read them, because it helps give me a visual of what's going on - her writing is so dense, that I find it helps. And the BBC versions follow her work very closely. Enjoy!!

I got home from NO yesterday to a monsoon and to the realization that I had left my laptop at my mom's. Ugh!! Luckily my husband has many laptops lying around and he was finally able to set one up for me.
I will be starting my book sometime tomorrow after I finish another one first.
Happy Reading everyone!! Let us know how you are doing!!

Judithe | 6566 comments *like*

I get too excited when I see a post on our thread, LOL! Just pacing indoors and waiting for the next shelf while enjoying the rain and cooler temps from a soon-to-arrive almost-typhoon (wind speeds seem to have it hovering between typhoon and tropical storm, regardless, it's wet, and that is a good thing as we've had a very dry rainy season so far!)

Hope everyone is enjoying their reads this week!

message 228: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Judithe, it's strange to think about weather in another part of the world. Hope you are safe! But cooler temps sounds really good about now. It's pretty hot here!
I feel the same way about posts on our threads!!

message 229: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Leslie I am reading. I started working 10 hours this week and will be off on Friday so hoping to finish one of my books possibly 2. I have been reading every chance I get. Will be reading during lunch again today.

message 230: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments No worries, Monica. Just checking to see how things are going. Please don't feel like I'm pushing you. I know The Bourne Identity is a really dense book and Pride and Prejudice is no slouch either! Enjoy them and ignore my little notes!
How nice for you to be off on Friday!

message 231: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Yes that is the bonus of working 10 hour days. The drawback is feeling exhausted and falling asleep at 8 pm every night. I was hoping to get more reading done tonight but it hasn't happened. My son is at work and his boyfriend is over so I have been talking to him. Now I am going to curl up and read for a little bit and hopefully not fall asleep.

Happy Reading all!!

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Monica how is Mercy Thompson for you? *bites fingernails* hoping you love it ...:)

message 240: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Regina if Mercy Thompson is in Moon Called, I haven't started it yet. I am concentrating on Bourne and P&P. I am going to head upstairs to my room so that I can read. I am tired and feel like I could fall asleep.

Well I got my car back from the mechanic and it only cost me about $60.00! I am thrilled. I was so nervous that it was going to cost me more then that. Now that my stress is over from that I think I can read my book with out that in the back of my mind.

Happy Reading all!

message 241: by Regina (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Week 3: Strong Heroines
The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2) by Kelley Armstrong
6/22/13 ***stars
Review:
This is the second book in the Dark Powers Trilogy and I liked it. The book literally starts at the end of the first book, so it took me a minute to remember what had been happening. In the beginning it seemed very juvenile to me, but as the action picked up, that got better. This one is very action packed and moves quickly. Chloe is locked up by the Edison Group and manages to escape and find Simon and Derek. Tori escapes with her and she is every bit as annoying as in the last book. Chloe's powers are increasing and she is working hard to figure them out. While they are on the run, Derek is struggling to with changing into a werewolf. The triangle between the three is also becoming more apparent. It again ends very abruptly, and it will become important to read the third book and see what happens to the teenagers. Kelley Armstrong has created an interesting, and very dark world. There are horror aspects to the story (reanimated bats come to mind- yuck) and the characters seem very real.

LOLing...that shows up as 57 minutes ago, and I just posted a pic of the gorgeous moon I saw as I bicycled home after a lovely girls' night out with my besty! But, morning or evening (or later)...just a few hours away from our shelf! Hoping everyone's reading is going well!

My husband was telling me there is something special about the moon right now. Can't remember what it's called. But it's connected to the summer solstice.

message 249: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments It's a supermoon (well, that should be on Sunday your time) which means it's at its closest, and very, very big! Shifters beware!

I had a wonderful time being on a team with Vi cause we're almost in sync! LOL! Often catch one another on line, which can always be a plus! Opposite ends of our days, but it's lovely to bump into you here so often, too!

Maybe more than you want to know, but...(and go out and moon gaze this weekend!!!)

A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon's disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. The term "supermoon" is not astronomical, but originated in modern astrology.[1] The association of the Moon with both oceanic and crustal tides has led to claims that the supermoon phenomenon may be associated with increased risk of events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. However, the evidence of such a link is widely held to be unconvincing. [2]

The next occurrence will be on June 22, 2013. This full moon will be the closest and largest full moon of the year. It also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The moon will not be so close again until August 10, 2014.[3]
