"The chemistry between Lex and Xochitl is off the charts! In true Moreno style, Lex is the whole package and throw in Xochitl's stubborn, spitfire attitude and well, there is never a dull, but lots of hold your breath, heartbreaking and laugh out loud"

Wow! Just Wow! This book has it all. I could not put it down. In my opinion noone writes the drama that comes with interpersonal relations better than Elizabeth Reyes. She gets the nuances and lays them on the page in such a way that the reader" Read more of this review » |

“I write because I must. It's not a choice or a pastime, it's an unyeilding calling and my passion.”

“He didn’t say a word and she didn’t ask anything else, just ran her fingers through his hair until his breathing began to calm. Without letting go of her or even pulling away to face her he finally whispered against her ear, “Please don’t leave me. I promise I’ll try harder.” Slowly he pulled away and their eyes met. “I’m nothing without you, Izzy.”

“What?” Eric shook his head. “Angel Moreno is into talking to chicks now? When did you turn into a total wuss?"
Angel shrugged, and took another bite of his food.
He avoided looking at Eric; suddenly not sure he wanted to talk about it. “I don’t know, dude, she’s just cool to hang with, I guess.”
Eric nodded, as if he got it. “So, you’re not into her? I thought she was pretty hot.”
“I’m into her, you ass, just ‘cause I didn’t bone her the first night. Not all girls are like that, you know.”
Eric grinned. “So, you did get shot down.”

“His heart still hammered away but he was strangely relieved. "Stop saying that, Sarah. You have nothing to be sorry about. This is my fault and intend on fixing it. But I won't let you back out now, sweetheart. I can't. It may not be too late for you but there's no turning back for me."

“Angel clicked on a few more pictures on the screen, and Alex made small talk about the place. Then he finally walked away. He stopped just before walking out.
“Did Valerie say anything else to Sarah?”
Angel glanced back at him. “About what?”
“You know about that guy she’s seeing.”
Angel turned his attention back to the computer. “No, not really.”
Alex frowned. He wasn’t one of those guys, so he wasn’t about to keep asking. If Angel knew anything, he’d tell him. He’d just have to wait until the rehearsal dinner.
He started back out when Angel spoke up. “I’m not sure, because she didn’t actually tell me, but I overheard Sarah on the phone last night. It sounded like Valerie was telling her about him.”
“Yeah, what did you hear?”
Angel looked up trying to remember. Something seemed to come to him but he hesitated. “I don’t think you wanna hear it, Alex. I know I wouldn’t.”
Alex squeezed the doorway with his hand. What the hell could he have heard? “Tell me.”
Angel shook his head and looked back at the monitor. “Only reason I caught my attentions was because I overheard Sarah ask her something about wearing lingerie.”
Alex felt the hair on the back of his neck rise and his gut tightened. He banged his fist against the doorway. He didn’t need to hear any more. Angel had been right that’s the last thing he needed right now. He charged back out of the office, infuriated with himself. Why the fuck had he asked?”

“The connection he felt with her at that moment was mind-boggling. "No regrets," he whispered.
It was more of a statement than a question but she responded with a smile, shook her head and repeated the two words he'd just spoken with as much conviction as he felt. "No regrets."

Set up: Alex thought he was over his ex Valerie until they were reunited briefly at a wedding shower just weeks earlier. Ever since he hasn't been able to stop thinking about her. Unfortunately she informed him she'd moved on and is seeing someone new. In this scene he decides to join a few friends at a bar. He's surprised to see Valerie's roommate Isabel is there with his friend Romero.
Romero ordered everyone a round then turned to Isabel. “You think Valerie’s ready for another one?”
Alex’s eyes were immediately on the two beer bottles in front of Isabel. Romero held his so the other was obviously Valerie’s.
“Just bring her another one,” Romero told the waitress.
Isabel glanced at Alex, and now he knew what she’d been troubled by. She turned away quickly to talk to Sofia who was getting comfortable in the seat next to her. The anxiety was already making its way to his stomach. He hated that damn feeling. He turned casually back to the rest of the restaurant hoping to get the first glimpse of her out of the way before she was too close.
“So how’d they get you out of your cave, big guy?”
Alex shrugged sitting on the edge of one of the bar stools around the pool table.
“It was time for a break.”
“You think?” Eric asked. “Sofi says you practically live there, now.”
Romero leaned over the pool table and took a shot. “What’s wrong with you, man? When’s the last time you went out?”
Alex didn’t even remember. He’d been so caught up this past year he couldn’t even remember the last time he’d been on a date. A fact that spoke volumes about the meaningfulness of the experience.
The waitress walked in with their beers. She handed him a bottle with the kind of smile he was used to getting from women. He reciprocated out of habit, but went back to looking for Valerie. Romero got busy paying the waitress. Alex took advantage and continued to search for Valerie. His anxiety spiked when he spotted her near the entrance. Not just because she looked even more amazing than when he’d seen her at the shower but because she wasn’t alone.
The sight of her with a guy close enough to kiss her made him squeeze his beer bottle. Alex took a deep breath and a bitter swig of the beer. This was not his idea of taking a break. He felt more angst at that moment than he had in all the weeks since the shower.
No way was he spending the evening around Valerie and her new man. He took a longer drink of his beer. He’d be out of here as soon as he was done. Still gripping the bottle tightly he had to concentrate on not breaking it. As much as he hated the sight he couldn’t move his eyes away from her and the guy.
The guy held her wrist but not in the way a boyfriend holds his girls hand. The moment he saw Valerie pull her hand away defiantly he was on his feet. He welcomed the new tension that seeped through him. Unlike the tension he felt from seeing her with another guy he knew exactly how to deal with this one.
They weren’t talking they were arguing and Alex should be happy. Instead he went on an instant state of alert. Her boyfriend’s aggressive expression and the fact that he tried to grab her hand again was all Alex needed. He put his beer down and started toward them.

He walked over to where Sarah had stopped and was looking at little turtle figurines with heads that bobbled. Angel tapped the little head to make it wiggle.
“You like that?” He grimaced.
“It’s cute.”
“My sister has a bunch of those. Ever since her friends found out she liked them they’ve started buying her more. So she collects them now.” Angel chuckled. “I remember the time some idiot brought one to the restaurant for her. My brother Alex broke the head off.”
Sarah looked at him weird. “Why’d he do that?”
Angel was still smiling. He picked out a couple the turtles for his sister and turned back to Sarah, “She was only fifteen. That’s way too young for a boyfriend.”
He watched as Sarah crinkled her nose and she got that little wrinkle between her eyes. He was beginning to love all her expressions. “Maybe he was just a friend.”
“No such thing.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean there’s no such thing as guy’s and girls being friends.” Angel moved along the aisle still not seeing anything that grabbed him. He stopped when he noticed Sarah hadn’t moved.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” She walked toward him. “You really believe that?
“Believe what?”
“That guys and girls can’t be friends?”
Angel stopped looking through all the junk on the shelves and turned his attention to Sarah. “Yeah, don’t you?”
“No. I think it is possible.”
“Really?” He lifted an eyebrow. “You have a lot of guy friends, Sarah?”
Sarah cleared her throat and glanced back at the souvenirs on the shelf. “Not a lot. But I have some.”
