Rose | 1 comments Hi fellow history lovers,

I'm new to Good Reads and thought this group looks like my kind of thing. I'm a museum curator here in the north of the UK, specialism archaeology, and I also teach at the local university. Most of the books I read, both fiction and non-fiction, are history/archaeology themed. Favourite eras for both are Ancient Greek, Roman Empire, medieval, early medieval, Georgian and Victorian.

I'm looking forward to getting involved in some group reads with like minded people - the book club I'm in with my friends has degenerated into 'wine club'. Whilst fun not much book discussion takes place!

Regards, Rose

Jill H. (bucs1960) Welcome to the place for history lover, Loren. We are glad you joined us.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Alexei Ghertescu Hi, I'm Alexei from the Republic of Moldova. I am a lawyer.
Always loved history. Since we started it at school. The was always some magic to me in all the stories from the past, which also help us to understand the world we live in today.
I can't say I have a particular topic or period that I'm interested in. Equally excited when reading about some ancient civilizations or about some events from the recent past (like WWII for example).
I can't say I am concerned too much with every single detail and date but rather interested to understand the underlying reasons and causes which lead to certain events.
Happy to find and become part of this group and to have an opportunity to share my passion for history with others! ))

Abby Lewellen | 1 comments I am Abby from Nashville, Tennessee. I am a born reader and am currently working my way through the New Lifetime Reading Plan which is history heavy. I do love history but did not appreciate it during Western Civilization in college, funny how that works. I have chosen to start on Herodotus. I must take copious notes to get what I need out of it. I am a fan of ancient, middle ages, regency England and colonial America. I cannot make a book club meeting at the library but feel I will need help in my quest. I am happy to lend help when I can.

Rick (rwillems) | 1 comments Hello everyone. My name is Rick. I'm a 63 year old man. I have been an avid reader nearly all of my life. Like many of you, my reading tastes run over a wide range of books. As an engineer by trade and training science fiction was probably my first love -- the spark that got me going. In my mid twenties I picked up a little book titled "A Bridge Too Far" by Cornelius Ryan and I was hooked. Historical fiction and non-fiction books are always on my reader now and most likely one of my "currently reading" selections. Anything from prehistory (I'm currently rereading Jean Auel's Earth's Children series) to current events (One of the most powerful stories I've read lately has been Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden). Of Course this then ties into my love of Science Fiction so I can read about future "history" -- ha ha. Of course I will read anything that strikes my fancy, Business, Hard Science, philosophy, political, you name the genre and I probably have something in my reader's queue, ready to go. My wife says I've always got my nose in a book or magazine. Well that's me, I guess. Glad to be a member of your group.

Melody Harmony Hello! My Name is Melodi, I'm a preschool teacher, currently liing in Indiana. I love history because I love gaining understanding for how and why things are the way they are, how they got that way and how people lived throughout history. I love to read-I've enjoyed alot of reading mostly of Dark Ages through Renaissance era European history and I do local historical reenactments. I would love to branch out and learn more, especially military history and history of other areas of the world, so here I am! Thank you for having me, I look forward to interacting with you all.

Bryan Craig Hi Danielle:

You might want to join our "50 books" challenge and we can follow along with you on what you read:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment.

This is how the books you've mentioned should look:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak by Markus Zusak Markus Zusak

The Second World War in Europe by Charles Messenger by Charles Messenger (no photo)

Ned Carriger | 1 comments My name is Ned Carriger. I currently reside in the thriving metropolis of Chattanooga, TN (Hamilton County), but I would like to find a job that would allow me to cover Friday Night Football in West Texas. Happiness is 37404 Country in my rearview mirror and when I die they can bury me in Lubbock, Texas in my jeans. I like many different types and periods of history, but if I had to pick a few specific areas I would say Southern History, social history, British History, and penal history. The reason why I joined this group was to find some good and interesting books to read, to broaden my horizons, and to try to be a tad bit more interesting at dinner parties. I've been reading a lot of Texas History lately. However, the people I talked to at the various didn't seem to be too impressed with my knowledge of Texas History. All they said was "Well, you know if there wasn't a Tennessee there wouldn't be a Texas."

Bryan Craig Thanks for revising, Ned, it is a great introduction. I know Texans are very serious about their history.

Welcome, Ankit. I was a programmer before I retired, and I loved it.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post. This is how books you mention should look:
