lol...it seems too easy to read. I kind of expect fantasy books to be written in a way that makes me feel stupid.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments It really depends on the author. Wendy and I absolutely love this series The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima and it's very readable, not hard to follow at all.

I'm so excited!

Hahaha! You may be right! The wererats, have they already been done somewhere? Or maybe I'm thinking of the Rat King... *shudder*

After finishing Zombie Fallout 2 A Plague Upon Your Family (Zombie Fallout, #2) by Mark Tufo on audio, realized that there may be some key characters/scenes that were forgotten in book 1 Zombie Fallout and had to go back and relisten (hate it when that happens!). These books are great! Funny and horrific.

Aren't there Wererats in the Magic series by Ilona Andrews? But maybe weregerbils will start to factor in book 10 when pickings get slim... :)

message 2007: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I think Laurell K. Hamilton may have been the first to do wererats, there are wererats in one of the first Anita Blake books.

message 2008: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments And she does them grossly!

message 2009: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @Tellulah - If anybody can write wererats or weregerbils, it's Ilona Andrews! Love all their books :D And who knew werehyenas can be hot or romantic? LOL So I just had to google 'wererats' and since I don't play Dungeons and Dragons, didn't know they're on that. But hey, look what I found!! Wererat by Jonathan Brazee Isn't the cover cute?! Think I may HAVE to read it.

Lisa | 383 comments Regina wrote: "I think Laurell K. Hamilton may have been the first to do wererats, there are wererats in one of the first Anita Blake books."

Ah, that's what I was remembering. I've only read book 1 of that series and have been meaning to read more, eventually.

message 2011: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Well anything Ilona Andrews does is sexier. :)

I loved Anita Blake through book 10 Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #10) by Laurell K. Hamilton -- through book 10 it is one of the best urban fantasy series ever. I think it gets really strong around book 3 or 4 (when Anita is finally having sex -- but not too much, lol). 10 doesn't end on a cliff hanger, so reading through 10 and stopping is not a bad thing at all.

message 2012: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL, that cover is funny. :)

I am enjoying Lie Still by Julia Heaberlin and in fact was afraid to go to bed last night!

I have started to listen to I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1) by Barry Lyga as I finished The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey

I don't remember which Anita Blake book I quit on, but I do remember flipping through the copious amounts of sex desperate to find some plot. lol

message 2014: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL -- I am guessing it was 11+. 1-3 has no sex. 4-10 has a normal amount of sex for a UF series. 11 is CRAZY and I stopped there. And this comes from someone who likes to read about sex!

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'll see if I can find it but there is a classic critical review of On the Jellicoe Road which somehow lays the conflict between Nth & Sth Korea at Melina Marchetta's feet. It's pretty funny in a "shakes head in disbelief" kind of way.

message 2022: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments My library copy of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes has arrived so I'm starting that now that I just finished Come Back to Me (Viking & Saxon, #3) by Josie Litton .

message 2023: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments This is the review for On the Jellicoe Road. I posted a comment on the review which was also completely unrelated to On the Jellicoe Road...I think it was about an R.L. Mathewson book but I can't remember exactly which one.

Aw. Me Before You was quite the emotional ride.

Finished Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) by Laini Taylor the other night but hadn't had a chance to really process it until tonight. Sigh. I adore Laini Taylor. The last few chapters - epic.

I'm going to be able to read more tomorrow. I'm really enjoying Lie Still...

I hope you enjoy I hunt Killers, it's one of my favorite book last year.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) So a late night Twitter chat got me sucked into Wait for You (Wait for You, #1) by J. Lynn Cam is def a contender for top swoony boy but what is it with NA and girls who have suffered some form of sexual abuse and then been tormented for it? I'm getting really tired of it and more than that, for me, it feels like turning it into a trendy character element is actually trivializing these events. I dunno. It's just bothering me right now.

I've noticed this trend too. There are more ways to give a heroine depth besides victimizing her. There are other life experiences to choose from. : /

message 2031: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm so into Joyland by Stephen King . I love this coming of age story and Dev finding his way at Joyland. 47% (view spoiler)

Stacia, how are you liking the Joyland?

Also reading, Lie Still by Julia Heaberlin and loving it! 79% in (view spoiler)

Regina, how far are you into Lie Still? I hope to finish today... or at least tomorrow.

message 2032: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Yay! I'm so glad you're enjoying Joyland! It's not at all what you expect out of a King book.

message 2033: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I didn't really have some expectations for Joyland. I just know something is coming and i'm a little nervous for what it is...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'm at 53% and it's weird but I seem to be stuck on a never-ending chapter. I have this thing where I want to put a book down at the end of a chapter, but I kept reading and reading and reading and the chapter end never came, so I finally picked a spot to stop at!

Okay, so (view spoiler) Leea, wait to read this until you read another few pages because this happened right after what you posted. (view spoiler)

So far, I like the book but am still suffering from that same frustration with every King book, where he spends pages and pages on details that I'm not interested in. I know more about being a dog mascot than I'd ever care to.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments And I probably could have posted that all on your review. Sorry. I just figured I'd answer your spoiler here.

message 2036: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am almost done Leea, I am at 96%. We had two baseball games and two performances for my daughter today and I am trying to read it! Something happened that I expected and I know who Alice is! LOL -- you will get there.

Stacia, it is funny because, while I don't have much experience with King, in Joyland I loved those descriptions but I was doing the narration and it was really well done so maybe that was the difference.

message 2037: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Okay, Yeah, I was going to say that too. There are not chapters so this story has no breaks.

King always leaves these little snippets of whats to come the last sentence of some breaks but then you don't find out what happens. it's frustrating for sure.

Aren't there some sort of breaks other than the heart icons? For some reason, I could have sworn that I had a concrete stopping point before when I put the book down.

Now I'm going to be super observant and looking for it.

LOL, that's funny because my husband and I were talking about that with Under the Dome. How King spent so much time talking about how many roads went in and out of the town.

Oddly enough that stuff doesn't bother me, but I think it's because I start to skim subconsciously so I don't pay attention to it.

It didn't happen in Joyland for me though, maybe cause it's shorter. I actually liked the description about wearing the fur in that book. Maybe because I liked how despite all the pains he loved it anyway because of the kids. It was cute. I got more tired of reading about the rides.

message 2041: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Stacia ~ Vixen of Variety wrote: "Aren't there some sort of breaks other than the heart icons?"

LOL, no, there are no chapters in the book at all. It drove me nuts when I first started reading too because I read until a new chapter and I just kept reading and reading. It's only the heart icons.

message 2043: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finally picked up Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs . Seriously Carina, I hope you are having all kinds of great karma for that list of TBRs you gave me. :)

message 2044: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Mercy Thompson is my all time favorite urban fantasy series. I have read every book 3X. Each gets better and better -- enjoy!

message 2045: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I just finished Lie Still by Julia Heaberlin and I loved it -- 4 to 4.5 stars. Leea, make sure you read the author's note -- she talks about Clairmont and her representation of Texas women.

message 2046: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I was laughing at that Regina. Yeah, it's not representative of Texas women at all. lol

I finished Lie Still also, can you tell we were reading this together? It's very good and I really liked the mystery.

Still reading Joyland, I should finish tomorrow. I'm about 57% (view spoiler) I should finish tomorrow morning.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Hello ladies! Hope you are having a great weekend!

I finished Special Forces - Veterans (Special Forces, #3) by Marquesate last night and it was bittersweet for me. On one hand it was a great story but now there is no more Vadim and Dan and that just makes me incredibly sad. I feel like I have said goodbye to dear friends.

message 2048: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

That one was emotional...well all of them are to be honest. You will love it either way. It is about Vadim and Dan after all.

I am having a great weekend so far...thanks!
